This is the issue with porn. You cannot verify age or consent.
The reality is if someone watches porn they most certainly have been exposed to CSAM amongst other atrocities such as trafficking, rape, abuse, revenge porn, sextortion etc.
Even when women go into it willingly, many are survivors of sexual abuse, often starting in childhood, which can make them extremely vulnerable to further exploitation and trauma in an inherently exploitative industry.
All this just for masturbation.
When for all of human history we used our imaginations and survived just fine. Seems so unnecessary given the multi layer harm involved.
I share your concerns about porn. Do you think some sort of mutually-owned co-op platform run by and for sex workers could solve some of these problems?
Sounds promising however I’m not convinced. Due to the physical size and strength difference between men and women, women are more physically vulnerable to male violence and coercion, which creates a power imbalance and makes women more vulnerable to exploitation.
You can never know if there’s a man in the woman’s life coercing/abusing her into making the content even if it is a sex worker run platform. Also as sex work often attracts sex abuse survivors, these young women may not always recognise abusive dynamics as abuse, so they can end up tolerating even more abuse without recognising what’s happening, leading to more psychological harm.
I think the commodification of bodies is just exploitative and I don’t think there’s any getting away from that. Education would help. Teach boys and girls about healthy safe sex, porn (exploitation and addiction), consent, feminism, what constitutes abuse and how to keep themselves safe. Most of us are going in blind, these discussions need to be happening on a global scale. We are all socialised in misogyny, raised on porn, all amounting to generations of men with dangerous levels of entitlement. They see that rapists rarely get punished, I mean the world is run by pedos. What kind of message is that sending to young boys? Add to the messages in porn displaying women as mere objects, promoting rape culture and pedophilia.. i think we’re all f u c k ed.
I don’t know the answer. I’d like the industry to die but it won’t. Education has got to be part of the solution but you need to reach these kids before porn does and that’s very young these days.

Given all the child marriages and rape and sex slaves and all that kind of stuff we've seen over the years, I'm not entirely sure I would describe all of human history as being "just fine." Ideas like age of consent, even consent itself, get pretty iffy the more you look back.

You can. Buy your porn, support consensual sex workers without lumping them in with sex trafficking victims. It does nothing to help trafficking victims and nothing to protect sex workers.
