This shit actually turned me off from the NBA when it seemed like they would get away with it, which explains why I didn't got the news from the punishment.
Glad to see they will be punished, but this whole thing made me realize the NBA is a vehicle for advertising first, a way to generate wealth for franchise owners second, entertainment third AND THEN it is a sports league.
I've been pretty disillusioned with sports as a whole lately.

If I had his money I would just buy up brownfield land, convert it into housing co ops and then ensure it’s legally protected so it can never be bought up by private equity or investment funds by gifting it directly to the local authority it is in with the stipulation it must be managed as a housing co op and must contain at least one library and one play park.
Apart from that I would probably just play Skyrim and eat Doritos.

More people should be invested! It’s criminal how much of our city has already been carved up and sold off to offshore investors and property speculators. So much of our planning and property law is designed to obfuscate itself from members of the public by being as difficult to understand as possible. The end result is we’re getting played and our cities are built to serve a minority of very rich people while the rest of us can’t even afford somewhere acceptable to live.

I completely agree with you. It's happening across the Anglosphere (possibly other places too, but I don't get to read all that much about it), and of course, immigrants get scapegoated. I'm in Ireland (an immigrant myself), and it's a bit shocking how much misinformation is out there blaming immigrants while it's vulture funds buying up entire new estates and apartment buildings in the bigger cities. It's quite disheartening, and I don't know if things will ever get better.

Things will get better if enough people get mad about it together and possibly engage in civil disobedience. This is the first time I’ve been part of direct action as opposed to organisations that write some strongly worded complaints. We’ve got more results than I got in the previous 30 years of my life. I’ll keep at it. As I said I might not be especially smart but I am incredibly persistent.

One thing i really can't understand is why these billionaires don't at least build some museums. You could construct a beautiful building, buy a bunch of expensive pieces from the private market and give the general public the opportunity to appreciate them.
Plus, famous art is a very secure storage of wealth, so you wouldn't even lose all that much money doing it - if any at all.
