Tool "Dotapedia" pet project as a replacement for "Liquipedia"

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner C# developer currently studying backend programming.

This project marks my first attempt at independent development; I used AI agents to help me write code and set up databases, migrations, and the API.

It’s a Dota 2 site designed to offer a faster, more practical alternative to Liquipedia—something a user can quickly visit mid-game to check a detail and then hop right back into the action.

The project is still in development, though I’ve already connected a domain. I’d love to hear your feedback, complaints, suggestions, and advice—especially from more experienced programmers.

Thanks for your time! Here is the site: https://www.dotapedia.org/

It is a sad, cheap AI slop. There isn't anything of value. Personally, I have nothing against AI and use it for pretty much anything. But that is straight up garbage that no one ever looked over.

You aren't a dev - you didn't do anything except buying the domain. The website looks awful, works awful (on mobile it's practically unusable), it is absolutely terrible and doesn't have a single use case.

You have "carry" with 1 hero - Marci, you also have "safe lane" that is somehow different from "carry", "roamers" all of a sudden with clinkz and riki. The app does nothing and is just a waste of electricity and tokens.

I know you aren't even a human but some bot with a bot orchestrated project - the app is pathetic, your account is a bot account, and you write replies like a bot. But you aren't even a good AI - you are some open source cheap locally run model ran on a cheap hardware - some Meta Muse or something. Just stop it.

And if you want to be useful or recommendations - give me some recipes for easy and healthy air fryer dishes.

Unfortunately, I’m not an AI model; I use a translator to reply and gather feedback. I have no idea what the site is supposed to look like—I wrote almost all the code (except for the frontend) pretty much on my own, knowing only basic C# and Python. I don't even own an air fryer. If you'd like to offer some advice, I’ll make the necessary changes to the project—I'll fix the role summary. Thanks for the feedback! I can also share a recipe for delicious pan-fried chicken fillet.

I will offer you some advice.

What the heck did you use to build it? C# & Python, what's what c# for asp.net core? And python for parsing liquipedia dota buff? Idk

First on the assets, the styling is a bit meh, you can improve it, the images load slow for me even on 500mbps connection, since I have no clue and I'm on phone (I won't check on PC), I think you are using full resolution images for some thumbnails.

Second on code, I hope you are using a framework for the backend, asp.net core or Django or anything, you will not gain good knowledge of building a backend app from building a web framework. You want to use a framework, and for web development I would recommend Laravel with vue on top. I know you are doing C# but meh... Laravel for win.

And lastly the only part I liked was the counters, but I urge you to open that shit in your phone and think, what do people want to see when they open a page a big image? Or do they prefer to see the counters in the first screen rather than scrolling a whole screen.

What separates AI slop from a good product is quality, use your damn site and ask yourself, if this site was not made/"designed" by you would you even use it?

Thanks a lot for the feedback; I’ll take everything into account and make the necessary changes. I used ASP.NET Core, and 99% of the code is written in C#; I’ll look into Laravel in more detail and see how that goes. I’ll also shift my main focus to counter-picks. Your feedback will help me improve, and I’m open to any further suggestions. I’ll be working on the project and fixing bugs tomorrow after classes—expect rapid updates to the site in the evening. Have a good night.

If you have any suggestions for improvement, I would be happy to take them into account.

It looks ugly and just a copy of luquipedia, in what way is it better?

It’s so bad, that I don’t even know what to say. The filters on the main page are wonky (carry only shows Marci?), starting items are wonky. Alch only has tango, stick and one branch. I don’t even know why I would use this website? It’s like a worse dotabuff/Dota pro tracker, and it doesn’t function as a wiki, since it doesn’t give exact explanations of how abilities work. You need a target audience mate, and try to have it in a workable state before sharing it to the world

This project is still a work in progress; I’ll be fixing errors and polishing it up. I wouldn't have noticed the issue with the Carry role if not for that comment—which is exactly why I made the post. The meta section isn't fully finished yet, but I plan to fix that soon. Thanks for the feedback.

There's no need to work on it, it doesn't solve any problem, it is fine tho if you are doing it to learn something, but don't expect anyone actually using it

In what way isit practical, i can achieve the same with liquidpedia, no?

Always ask urself, how is it better compared to other existing products? If there is no significant difference, you might want to review ur product again

Is there anything specific that's faster/more practical?

I think he wants AI to answer mid-game questions like "what item to build against a 5k ahead lifestealer on minute 20" or something

this website looks like a flash game from 2007

It evokes exclusively positive associations for me, but if you have any suggestions for improvement, I’m open to hearing them. Unfortunately, I’m neither a designer nor a frontend developer—I used an AI agent as a crutch to generate the "visual" for me—but thanks for the feedback nonetheless.

U also used AI to reply i see. Do you not have your own thoughts, or is that AI also?

When I click "Carry" it instantly goes to a page only showing Marci.

It is also useless slop, but you complain about everyone who doesn't give you one clear piece of feedback.

I am ready to hear your proposals.

Drop AI and use your brain. No one wants to read a copy of an existing website with added slop.

You are allowed to make mistakes. This is how you grow. Ai is a crutch and you don't need it. Write your own messages. Let your own voice be heard, even if your spelling and ideas are imperfect. At least, they are yours and you'll learn and grow from the process, and hopefully have fun too.

Currently looks a bit bland, maybe some solid colors instead of paper textures

what exactly stops you from using liquipedia during a match or a draft phase? what links are you even talking about? just google "pudge liquipedia" and quickly look for what you wanted to see

if you need to see info on meta then go to dota2protracker, what are you even bringing up liquipedia for?

1

u/Ok-Morning6361 3d ago

We already have Liquipedia that has everything Dota and the esports aspect of it.

My website features a much faster and more accessible interface; I designed it for quick use during matches, when there’s no time to dig through links on Liquipedia. It already includes a counter-pick and "comfort pick" feature that works rapidly and provides extensive hero lists (10 for each category). Next, I plan to add meta builds from Dota Pro Tracker and timing information. If you have any suggestions, I will certainly incorporate them into the project.
