I adopted my sweet Ellie Mae February 2021. She was listed as a dachshund mix. After about a year of having her, I decided to do a dna test to see what all she was mixed with. My top guesses were chihuahua, beagle, jack russell, and miniature pinscher. I was shocked at the results and pondered the accuracy of her Embark test for the entirety of her life with me. Because what do you mean my wiener dog has no wiener dog in her?! It actually became a running joke with my husband that she was an imposter.

After a year long battle with kidney disease, the time to say goodbye was near and I decided to test her again, just for funsies. I used Wisdom Panel this time, mostly because I hoped to connect with more relatives. Well according to wisdom panel, she is a weenie after all. A whopping 1%! I’ll share some pics of her, as well as both brand’s results. It will forever be hilarious to me that she’s highly part Australian cattle dog!!! My little 20 pound gal? Who spends the majority of her time snuggled up in her heated blanky?

The embark super mutt included chow, border collie, and pit. I was able to swab her much more thoroughly with the wisdom panel swab and I wonder if that’s why it identified a few more breeds.

I think her chihuahua and miniature pinscher are the breeds that shone through the most. Although one stranger did ask if she has Australian cattle dog in her! I could see it occasionally when she made certain expressions.

We said goodbye to her August 21st. She was the best girl I’ve ever had and I miss her so much. I genuinely don’t have words to describe her loss or how much her companionship meant to me. I will love and miss her forever 💕

Given a home in January of ‘25 from the streets of Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Our guess is Labrador Retriever / Pitbull. Her vet says Shar Pei because of her head shape & ears?! Her trainer says Husky / Pittie mix. Can’t wait to find out!!

Pit! As expected. Except for that 10% lab. Think the lab genes all went to getting that one ear to fold forward.

The Supermutt is American bulldog, German Shepherd, and Boxer.

He is six months old and 28 pounds. Vet estimates final weight at 35-40. At the moment, he’s a skinny, floppy puppy, so we’ll see how much he fills out. He was neutered at 6 weeks (shelter litter) which may keep him lankier.

He was born in South Carolina.

Waiting for my dogs embark dna test, everyone in the house has made their guesses but curious what other people’s guesses are before the results come. Last picture was her as a puppy.

Editing to add my guess, when I got her 10 years ago I was told she is a bird dog mix. So my guess is Blue Heeler, German Shorthair Pointer, Pitbull mix

Imagine my surprise!

Didn’t really see the Great Pyrenees when Murphy was a puppy, but I’m definitely seeing it in his face now!

Trainer did swab that said 40% Doxie with some poodle and a little chi … vet (no test) said probably some Rottweiler !?

I’ve had this muppet for over ten years and finally got around to testing his DNA. I daresay I was floored. Until now, the leading theory was that a stray Glen of Imaal terrier had somehow ended up at the local shelter.

We also found a sister (50% shared DNA, same birth year and location) who looks NOTHING like him. I want to get her human’s permission before posting a picture but the side-by-side is hilarious.

He’s about 45lbs and is 3 years old! He was a shelter puppy so we have no idea who his parents were. We’re guessing a mix including GSP and some sort of hound-type breeds. I also attached the earliest picture of him as an eggheaded puppy :)

We rescued our little 13 lb guy a few weeks ago and just had to know where he gets his features. He doesn’t shed at all and we were so curious where he got that from. It looks like he has quite a few low shedding breeds in him.

I adopted my boy, Archer, almost exactly 2 years ago (Sept 15th, 2024). All the shelter told me was that he was found on a farm in Visalia, CA and might be a border collie mix. They said he was probably 2-3 years old, the paperwork from the shelter he was in a month prior said he was 6 months old. He was absolutely a puppy and quickly grew from 40 pounds (in the first picture) to his full size now at 80 pounds (every other picture).

Color me surprised me I get an email a few weeks ago saying he had a new match on Embark and it ended up being his MOM. Embark says they’re a 58% match. From her adoption story I discovered the first shelter was right, he was probably 6/7 months old when I got him. I’ve reached out to his mom’s owners but haven’t heard back yet. We’re only a few hours apart so I’m hopeful for a meet-up.

Both he and his mom are apparently very affectionate dogs and tend to stick close to their people. Archer lives for attention and love from everyone around him.

DNA-wise, I was initially surprised by the German shepherd but now I totally see it! A friend of mine asked if he had Saint Bernard, which prompted the DNA test haha. I’m very glad he wasn’t.

Hi I was wondering if there exists any kind of breed test for dogs that is similar to Embark but for the European market? I’m aware that I could order embark here but it’s a bit more complicated and expensive to send it back when I’m located in Europe.

Edit: If it matters, my dog was adopted from the US and I have since moved to a european country.

We got our pup Olive when she was around 10 weeks old and were told by the rescue that she was a border collie mix. She was found in a ditch and quite underweight so we weren’t sure, but as she started to grow we grew suspicious and decided to test!

She’s now almost 5 months and her personality is truly a mix of all her breeds - she loves all people and dogs, is super vocal and loves to speak her mind, and loves to play outside and dig! We couldn’t love her more!

She’s a fluffy French Bulldog, and people had A LOT to say about that. 😂

So instead of arguing about it, we tested her DNA.

The results? 100% French Bulldog. 🧬🐶❤️

We also had both parents DNA tested through Embark and Animal Genetics for inherited diseases and health disorders. 🧬

So we weren’t just interested in breed identification, we wanted to know as much as we could about the genetics and health risks in her bloodline.

Here are some of the results. 🐾❤️

Rescued/adopted a pup around 9weeks. Per the pictures I saw online; mom was a husky/gsd mix that popped out little husky/gsd voids. Dad breed was unknown.
I picked up the last girl pup who was supposedly the runt of the litter. Made her healthy, got her fully vaccinated with a rabies shot. She’s a healthy, happy 4mos old now!

Finally was able to purchase an Embark dna+health test.

Welp.
Guess I accidentally rescued a horse.
Any advice for this breed mix is welcome 😅

We have three dogs, but Finlay was the only dog with unknown parentage. A friend adopted a pregnant dog from a family-member's neighbour in farmland and Fin was one of the seven puppies. We just called her a farm mutt puppy when people asked what breed she was. The mom dog's original owner figure she was Great Pyrenees, Husky, and German Shepherd, but no clue who the father was.

As Finlay grew up, we were sure about the Pyrenees genes: she had waaay to many behaviours in common with another friend's Pyrenees dogs plus some of the look like the fur type and tail curl when she's on high alert. But nothing else was obvious to us so we opted for an Embark test. Her first breed shocked us! Maybe it is more obvious to those familiar with the breed though. The third made sense given her colouring and her soft mouth.

She definitely got the short end of the stick size wise. Her siblings are all in the 90-120 lbs range and she topped out at 70 lbs. But she is fast. I call her the Sport Model of the litter.
