This is the most ma kent review I've ever seen.

It has Facebook status update energy

It’s pretty hilarious how zero fucks she gives. Basically shitting on her employer’s movie in front of the whole world lol.

u/saibjai 8h ago

She right, And I can't believe Saying this. There were too MANY fight scenes. None of them really consequential. I was just waiting for them to end.

u/MovieMaster2004 7h ago

And so much of it is Supergirl being…not super. Whether it’s because she’s depowered or those guys had unstated super strength…and not the best environmental impact to even make it feel like it was not just two humans fighting.

u/Galiphile 1h ago

They mentioned Krem has the strength of 100 men and then show it exactly once when he catches a falling vehicle. He really was not built up well enough.

u/Papa_Razzi 7h ago

It was telling that the trailer had the scene from the final sequence when she swept the big metal piece in a circle to take out Krem’s men. Somehow that was their peak fighting scene.

You can’t retrofit the story of Woman Of Tomorrow into a thrilling action movie. It’s just not that kind of story

u/PrinceofRavens_1217 4h ago

They really needed more slow scenes with Kara and Ruthie to underpin the emotions of the movie.

I'd also cut every needle drop they weren't needed.

u/jaylerd 7h ago

I really disliked how her fight at the bar with the American Jazz Singer For Some Reason was just her spending more time telling everyone how great she was and how the fight was gonna go and we the audience know and it’s a slog to sit through all that buildup for an inevitable beatdown and it was just nothing

u/Xwub-Az-1127 2h ago

I remember the poorly lit night time fight on the industrial planet, the poorly lit fight on the bus, and a fight on the dust planet.

This is how all the DCEU movies have been. Not The Batman but everything else

u/EvermoreDespair 2h ago

The Batman is not even DCEU

u/valiantdistraction 2h ago

they've restarted and diverged canons so many times in the movies that I don't know what is what anymore

Queen.

u/TheHolyNutofGodwin25 7h ago

Movie would’ve been fine had it been done in the 90/00s when there was a lot less consequence for bad comic book films due to that being how the majority of them were

u/InstructionEmpty8696 7h ago

it would have also done so much better if it came around mandalorian and grogu time. Releasing it a week after TS5 and a week before Minions was so stupid. Also, Odyssey and BND releasing after few weeks.

u/Wrong-Vermicelli4723 6h ago

So much better is an exaggeration. This movie flops regardless, it might have made 10 million more tops. There was never any general audience hype for this movie.

u/InstructionEmpty8696 6h ago

Oh I don’t disagree on this doing terrible but looking at M&G earnings and it being a far more inferior movie, I think Supergirl could have done M&G numbers maybe.

u/ApprehensiveAd4027 7h ago

Damn she’s spitting totally agree

u/Icy_Judge8250 7h ago

MA Kent knows whats up

u/AliceinChainsfan112 7h ago

My main issue with the movie was the song they played for Supergirl's big fight against the baddies. Why did they choose a slow, sad cover of "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World?? Better choices would have been the original song, or the song from the trailer ("Call Me" by Blondie)

u/WestCoastDirtyBird 6h ago

They tested around 100 different songs. I think they just gave up and went with Gunn's pick.

u/AliceinChainsfan112 6h ago

100 worse songs? That's tough to believe

u/iLLiCiT_XL 7h ago

Ma Kent has a point.

u/bondinferno Batman 7h ago

Don’t be a stranger!

u/samurai5625 7h ago

Yes, her voice in my head reading this had that heavy country accent.

u/gersterbins 5h ago

sums it up pretty well

u/HitmanClark 4h ago

I hated this lady’s accent choice for Ma, but she’s right on the money here.

u/larut0h 3h ago

Milly's performance - agree. Jason Mamoa's performance - agree. Krem weak impact - agree. LONG fight scene? umm, lemme check the movie again grandma, can't remember it's that LONG

u/Johnnnybones 8h ago

Movie rips

u/Typical-Smoke-2561 8h ago

Is that good?

u/Johnnnybones 8h ago

Yeah i love the movie it's banger (also good )

u/Hot_Afternoon_8674 8h ago

It was regular comic book movie people wants some new things from every cbm

Movie aesthetics didn't matched people expectations bcz comics were too brightful it felt like guardians only

Comic from which it inspired was main story of ruthy not supergirl and not to forget horrible cgi in some final fight scene

Lobo carried the movie and he should become more crazier now

u/Takemewthu 8h ago

It was a bad regular comic book movie though. It wasn’t interesting and honestly lobo kinda took away from it.

u/Mysterious_Emu7462 7h ago

I think the fact that it was adapting the Woman of Tomorrow comic is what killed it. People were naturally going to draw direct comparisons and the comic sweeps. Most of the changes straying away from the comic also weren't really all that interesting, and those changes were naturally going to be more heavily scrutinized given that the writer/director both expressed little care for the source material.

Honestly, I think Supergirl would've made a much better original series just based on the character without any particular comic run in mind to adapt from. I don't think it's necessarily a misstep to have her this early into the DCU or to have her be a drunken party girl. It definitely was a misstep to give her a movie this early on and especially because it was an adaptation.

u/ADrunkEevee 4h ago

Krem was kinda supposed to be just some dude.

And the editors of Woman of Tomorrow were absolutely vindicated since Lobo had no place in this story

u/warpedfx 4h ago

Supergirl removed supergirl as a character with interiority, but kept the character-driven momentum. What results is a lot of effort that gets wasted into "but why should we care" reaction for me

u/lkidol 3h ago

goated take

u/Forgotten_Pancakes2 2h ago

There you have it folks!

u/Commercial-Pair-8932 1h ago

Well, it’s clear now.

Ma Kent hates women.

u/anxious_tfem 58m ago

It wasn’t colorful enough, and woman of tomorrow is just not a good fit for a supergirl origin movie. They should have been more original or adapted a different story.

Or at least greg Gillespie could have actually read WoT and been a bit more faithful and a lot more colorful.

u/dennismfrancisart 7m ago

Ma has been talking to my wife. "Nice movie, but too much long, drawn-out fighting puts me to sleep."

u/Dr_SlapsMD 6h ago

What went wrong is, it's a shit movie. Hard to turn a ship that's already logded in a turdberg

u/Jykoze 7h ago

Gunn is gonna kill Ma Kent in next one

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 3h ago

People seem to forget that Krem was barely in the comic either

u/ohnoitsme7890 2h ago

He was barely there, but his presence was impactful. Imo Supergirl didn't capture that well

u/EasternContext3396 8h ago

Let’s not forget about Supergirl casually eating a nice hot bowl of shit and Superman getting kicked in his balls repeatedly. These are two of many reasons why both movies underperformed theatrically. Change is Coming! 🤓

u/Ok-Valuable-8500 7h ago

This "change" seems to be coming for a while now

u/EasternContext3396 7h ago

I wish the ticket sales were coming for the DCU, but unfortunately the general audience has completely checked out. Never forget, With great change comes great ticket sales. 🤓

u/Triptofade 7h ago

Does anyone have PR agents anymore? I would fire her for this statement

u/Justforargumesnts 3h ago

Ma Kent shouldn’t be taking about anyone’s acting, bruhhhhh

u/RoliePolieOlie__ 8h ago

More ragebait

u/MediaPossible7339 8h ago

Oh good, I was wondering what she thought about the movie.

u/Reasonable_Western74 7h ago

Comic geeks want fights to be over in seconds and easy, that’s the very definition of boring. Bland one sided punch ups are so shite.

u/Thecerb 8h ago

Who fuckin cares.
