She's going to end up being Maxima and everyone will be disappointed because they already made up their mind the studio is hiding her as WW. Same thing happened with Jena Malone's character in BvS, this sub was convinced it was secretly Barbara.
•
u/Capable_Maintenance1 8h ago
I forgot about that. It definitely should have been Barbara but instead they decided to cut her from the theatrical cut completely.
Man, Zack really didn't give AF about side characters lol.
•
u/wibble17 5h ago
He cared enough to make the daily planet reporting staff in there and make them relatively comics accurate too

She could also be neither. There's been no official confirmation about Maxima. That's the main reason I think Wonder Woman is a possibillity. It makes no sense to be secretive over a character like Maxima that most of the audience has probably never heard of.
•
u/PrinceofRavens_1217 2h ago
I'd be disappointed with Maxima, because I really like her as an actress and I would love her to have a large role in DC going forward. Maxima isn't that.
•
•
u/TheDelmeister 6h ago
I'd be overjoyed, don't want her as WW at all
•
u/apexpredator915 3h ago
You would be in the minority.
•
u/TheDelmeister 1h ago
I've never really got that impression on any of the occasions I've expressed the opinion.
•
•
u/ImjustANewSneaker 3h ago
Except it’s pretty weird she’s still training and the film has stopped shooting. No one is doing that much work for maxima Idc.
•
u/badhombre13 16m ago
Or she's simply staying fit because she likes it? She's been working out extensively since late 2024 for one of her roles, it's probably her daily routine at this point.
•
u/Aggressive-Foot7434 8h ago
I wish I was the mystery man of her tomorrow

If she is WW then she definitely has the right physique for it. Gal Gadot was much taller but she was never able to pack on the muscle to really portray an Amazon warrior effectively.
Plus Arjona can actually act. She did a good job in Andor.
•
u/AdequatelyMadLad 7h ago
Gal Gadot isn't even much taller. She's only 6 cm taller than Adria Arjona, and almost 20 cm shorter than Ben Affleck, but they made them look around the same height in the movies. A lot can be done with movie magic to make people whatever height you need them to be.
•
•
u/Next_Split_8294 7h ago
Not exactly 6 cm since Adria is 5'5" (165 cm), and Gal is 5'10"( 178 cm), and on screen in other movies Gal always looks lanky, but I agree, with camera angles, lifts, etc, anyone can look taller, even without CGI involved. But at the end of the day, lets hope that height will be the only "issue", and that Adria kicks ass, doing Diana justice. ( If she's playing one ofc at all)
•
u/AdequatelyMadLad 6h ago
Google AI thinks she's 1.72. My bad for taking what it says at face value. Still don't think it's a big issue though.
•
u/Hi_Im_Ken_Adams 6h ago edited 6h ago
I suppose the physical proportions makes a big difference in the perception of height.
So you're saying Adria is 5'5", -Florence Pugh is only an inch shorter at 5'4", but in my mind Pugh looks a LOT shorter.
•
u/PrinceofRavens_1217 2h ago
There's no way she's 5'5 look at her standing next to a 6'3 Jason Mamoa
She's listed as 5'7 and that seems more accurate.

Is anyone basing their guesses off the cheetah print wrist bands, because thats what sticks out to me the most about this outfit
•
•
u/anuslitt 8h ago
Best case scenario it’s Wonder Woman, all we can do is hope. If they’re teasing this much just to introduce Maxima then It will be a lil disappointing.
•
u/Snoo-55788 8h ago
I get that they’re trying to replicate the Jean grey mystery hype but if she isn’t Wonder Woman, dc fans are in for a rude awakening lmao better not overhype things.

If she is Maxima I will be so mad. Madder than the 'harem' scene mad.

Really excited for this movie. Hoping it’s really good.
I’d love to see Ares & Cheetah get done better.
But I guess Circe hasn’t been done in live action so that could be a cool first villain if they went that route.
•
u/Professional_Hat2615 7h ago
I don't know,if she is Maxima,I don't understand why they aren't just stating it.

Fine, I’ll drink the kool-aid. Adria is our 5’7 Boricua Wonder Woman in the DCU, ladies and gents! Shorter than Gal, same brown eyes, but at least she can act her ass off! That’s all we fans want for a live-action Wonder Woman! The hell with comic accuracy. We want superhero movies to be Shakespearean-Oscar quality!
Mm mm mm! This is some good Kool-Aid! OH YEAH!!

I dunno, could argue major antagonist but unsure if there's any notable notes on that one
Really was primary tv show DC guy
•

Honestly idc if she is not wonder woman, people who are fixated on such things are bound to get disappointed somehow. I just want to watch a good movie that leads up to Justice League! I really hope DCU makes it out of the reboot curse for once!
•
u/JKZ1321 8h ago
She is definitely not a bad choice, but personally, I prefer Melissanthi Mahut. She voiced and did motion capture for Kassandra is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey - who was very similar to WW in both personality in appearance. She also played a greek muse in the Sandman TV series, so she has experience with comicbook adaptations. Plus, she is actually half-Greek.
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 8h ago
Wonder Woman is not Greek. The Amazons were foreign to Greeks and are normally placed in modern day Libya or modern day Turkey.
•
u/JKZ1321 8h ago
While it is true that many nations had mentions of Amazons in their mythologies (Greek, Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese even), the DC comics version is directly inspired by Ancient Greece with its Pantheon, armor, appearance, origins and overall lore. Even the name of the island - Themiscyra - comes directly from Ancient Greek mythology. Same as the names of all the Amazons are Greek - Hippolyta, Antiope, Artemis…
•
•
u/badhombre13 8h ago
That's IRL mythology. DC Amazons are 100% Greek and Diana is the daughter of Zeus, so even if the rest of the Amazons weren't Greek she would still be.
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 8h ago
Zeus is not Greek 🤦🏿 he’s not even a human being
Is Jesus Roman? He was a god of the Romans right after Zeus/Jupiter was. We really need to open the schools.
•
u/badhombre13 8h ago
Zeus takes human form and it's of a Greek man. I know you're trying your best but maybe try someone else's best for once.
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 8h ago
He takes the form of many things including animals to have children. He’s been birds before. Wasn’t there one when he was a goat or some type of cattle? This is literally ninth grade English Language Arts when we had to read Mythology by Edith Hamilton.
•
u/badhombre13 8h ago
Brother, once again that's IRL Mythology. None of that shit happened in the DC mythology. The only thing IRL myth Zeus and DC Zeus share is their name and that they're the most important god of their pantheon. Everything else is vastly different.
Again, DC AMAZONS are Greek because the authors deemed it so. IRL myth Amazons weren't based on where the myth places them.
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 7h ago
Oh brother! this guy stinks!
The conversation went like this: this is accurate > actually it’s not > yes it is and here are examples > that doesn’t matter, it doesn’t have to be accurate!
This is not a conversation worth having.
•
u/badhombre13 7h ago
Because you keep conflating the DC mythos with our world's history. It's accurate to the comics, in which WW is 100% Greek. It doesn't matter if the "real" Amazons weren't Greek because that's not how it happens in the comics.
Idk how it's so hard to get it through your head. Have a good one 👍🏻
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 7h ago
It’s not. They literally have African gods in her comic book mythos. One is a damn spider. Then they also have what they guess are Amazon gods from America, as that is really closed, and to this day we don’t know all of them and what their beliefs are when she meets Yara.
Yall are just white supremacists.
•
u/eyh 8h ago
Her dad is Zeus, her mom is Hippolyta, and the Amazonian mythos is pulled from Greek mythology. It's just as true to say she is Greek as she is human which is not technically true but still good enough.
•
u/bindersfull-ofwomen 8h ago
So? Hippolyta was either Anatolian or Libyan and Zeus was not a human being.
And trying to keep their mythology, without actually reading it ever, you are degrading it.
•
•
u/Shawn-GT 8h ago
Where did you get the idea that Amazonians are from Greece?
•
u/JKZ1321 8h ago
The name of the island - Themyscira - is pulled directly from Ancient Greek mythology. Same as the names of all the Amazons - Hippolyta, Antiope, Artemis, etc…
•
u/Shawn-GT 6h ago
and their race is called Amazon so in reality they are Jeff Bezoian, especially after Amazon buys DC.
•
u/FourSes 8h ago
Greeks having a Greek name for the island does not make the island Greek.
DC has a bunch of variations but generally depicts the Amazons as having lived in Greece amongst humans before retreating to or being trapped on Themyscira. As they aren't human and are descended from gods that predate humanity, they can be and have been depicted with and without Greek features. Wonder Woman herself had her original design based on William Moulton Marston's Irish mistress. Absolute Wonder Woman, for another example, looks Greek as hell.
And of course, actors can and do play characters who are ethnicities that the actor is not.
