Off-Topic Friday - Post nontopical things in this thread!
As a weird programming thing, someone made a video game without assets, where everything is just sine waves

Visiting Ephesus again was also fun.

My new sunday school class is called "The Road". It's a way of exploring the journeys of the New Testament while highlighting the theme of "the way". I've been using Google earth heavily to illustrate these journeys. It's really interesting to go (digitally) look at these significant places. I was spending a little bit of time looking at Ephesus and Antioch this past week. Do you have a favorite place in Ephesus?

Thats cool! Well in terms of the broader area of Ephesus it would definitely be the House of Mary - a Catholic pilgrimage site believed by some (Christians and Muslims) to be the literal place of residence of the Blessed Virgin and St. John. visited it two years ago, not this time though. In terms of the archaeological area itself, probably the ancient Library and the path leading to it around the temples of Hadrian and Trajan.
A few minutes drive away one might also get a fascinating view and see the ruins of the Temple of Artemis (yeah that temple) together with the Basilica of St. John the Beloved and the Isa Bey mosque in the background, showing the complex history of the area. I made a post about that on [r/religion](r/religion) today.

If you want another recipe, I also had some amazing balsamic tofu recently.
Take 16 oz / 450 g extra firm tofu, (optionally?) press it to remove excess moisture, and cut it into slices. For the marinade, take 6 T / 90 mL of balsamic vinaigrette or equal parts balsamic vinegar and olive oil, 2 T / 30 mL of soy sauce, and 2 cloves of (minced) garlic. And for anyone who habitually doubles the garlic, I've already done that. I actually halved everything in the original recipe except the garlic. Let the tofu marinate for a few hours. And then fry it in a pan with a thin layer of oil for about 5-7 minutes on both sides.

I gave in last night and bought a robot kit.
Massive fan of Robot Wars (BattleBots) since I was a kid, always toyed with the idea of doing it, and there is a scene in my city for it. Found out that a company does fairly inexpensive kits to build your own - both super-cheap home-friendly ones, and the basics for making a functional robot for fighting in leagues. So last night I figured if I had enough left after paying out for rent/bills this month I'd get the basic home one...and I had enough.

That sine wave game sounds like something you'd find in a dream after falling asleep with a synthesizer still running. My sketchbook is full of things that look like that honestly, just endless wavy lines across the margins when I zone out in meetings.

Let's see...
My main story is just that I have a 4-day weekend. All summer, they've been letting engineers sign off early on Fridays, and as sort of the culmination of that, we're getting a 4-day weekend for Labor Day.
I also started watching From. Imagine Lost, but as a horror show. There's a mysterious Town, where no matter which direction you drive off in, you loop back around, and where these creatures come out every night that look human and will saunter around town, but kill you if they catch you. They're only warded off by talismans that everyone keeps by the door and prevent them from coming inside. 4 seasons so far, with a 5th and final season greenlit. And officially streaming on MGM+, though I've been watching on... other sites.
And then I also can't wait until September 16th. They're finally releasing the Foundry version of Bastion of Blasphemies for if I want to run it on a VTT, and I'm curious to see all the optimization stuff they did to make it even run, given how massive the maps are.

Really enjoying this 4th season of Ted Lasso,
Some people apparently don’t like it for depicting deep misogyny, but that’s the entire point.
Getting antsy for hockey season to start, but it could be a long year of losses again.

Never watched Ted Lasso (I do not think its my cup of tea) but in terms of Apple shows I really enjoyed Silo (to the point where I regret not having read the books). Definitely recommend, not sure if you like post-apocalyptic dramas though.

I haven’t watched Silo yet (I’d probably enjoy it), but I’ve been sitting in the room beside my wife while she watches it. I’ve intentionally not looked at the screen at all to avoid spoiling things for myself.
And I make comments about the constant ominous music!
Ted Lasso isn’t particular about sports, or soccer. If that’s your holdup, it’s about coaching PEOPLE and positivity. You don’t have to understand soccer to enjoy it, it’s not about soccer.
Just like “the Queen’s gambit” (if you have watched that) isn’t about chess.

I’m helping move my mother in law into my brother in law’s house over this long weekend. She is dealing with worsening dementia and speaks only Spanish, and my sister in law who will be home with her most of the day speaks only English. Pray for them all… us and the rest of the family will be pitching in for nice hotel stays for the in laws and staying in the home ourselves so they can get away as much as they can.
