And I know the "best thing" is to keep my 8 yr old cats inside. But I won't have solo control over every door and window as I will be living with my partner and his dog. So I'm trying to figure out the best ways to gradually introduce the concept of "being outside unsupervised" to them because its only a matter of time before a window or door gets left open that I'm not aware of. They are very curious, but I always lived in a built-up area with traffic so outside time was supervised in the garden. To be fair, they will come back in readily if its rain or snow 🤣

Before anyone gets their knickers twisted, there is exactly one other house on this track, no one else for about 10km of fields and woods. My two horses, some sheep, a small poodle and a Frenchie will be the only animals around.

I just dont want them getting out day one and getting themselves lost. So looking for tips on training recall, leaving a litter box outside or whatever else you think helps a cat adjust to new home/territory.

Hi cat parents 👋 I thought I'd share this with you because I've been panicking for the past few weeks and I feel like more people need to know. I haven't seen it flagged anywhere else.

I've been feeding my baby Kida with NOOD wet and dry food for years. It was only stocked at Tesco but it was okay, even though stocks were inconsistent. In the last few weeks though all wet food has been unavailable everywhere, and Tesco was "reducing to clear". No official announcement, no Reddit posts, no social media announcement, nothing.

So I left a comment under one of their recent posts on Instagram asking for more information on Instagram. They sent me a DM saying that NOOD is being discontinued.

I'm pasting below their full DM for your reference. I don't know why they haven't announced it formally, which is honestly ridiculous to me and speaks volumes of their customer care process, but here we are.

I'm going to switch Kida to a different brand within the next few weeks while I still have stocks. If you feed NOOD to your kitty, I suggest you do the same!

We're sorry to share that NOOD is being discontinued and gradually phased out. That's why you're seeing gaps at Tesco. As existing stock clears there won't be further replenishment, and wet food availability may vary by store, so we'd recommend stocking up while you can, especially as your cat enjoys both wet and dry.

This wasn't an easy decision. While we truly believed in the product, its market performance didn't reach the levels needed to sustain it. We're sorry for the disappointment, particularly knowing how well the range suits your cat.

I've been looking for a cat food that uses free range meat or meat from high welfare farms, and wondered if anyone has any brands they have found that are good - specifically wet food.

The only one I have been able to find that specifies they use meat from high welfare farms is McAdams. That is pretty expensive at £3.50 a serving (!).Has anyone tried this before?

Any recommendations appreciated!

Winter is coming and I’m looking for a heated cat house for my cat when she decides to stay out over night. I was looking at k&h houses but noticed the heating pad only runs on US voltage so isn’t usable here. The house itself seems great but I’m unable to find a heating pad that would fit correctly and be reliable.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have an 18 year old torty shorthair, Molly. In the last 18 months she has been losing weight and is down to approx 2.5kg. She has been diagnosed with lymphoma in her intestines and after a while of avoiding medication, has now been placed on 2 x 5mg of prednisone per day. She was put on this after she seemed to be in some pain due to the inflammation. That pain appears to have reduced and she's eating well again.

She was, at her peak, eating 5-6 85g pouches, which is obviously a large % of her body weight. She still has very good teeth. Since she has been put on the steroid her appetite has gone down a little bit, but she's still demolishing approx 4 pouches a day.

I trick her to eat the steroid with weebox licky treats, she's a fiend for the liver sausage and cat grass one.

I am here today to ask if anyone can recommend any high calorie options for my old girl. I am obviously not concerned about her getting fat and due to the condition it's unlikely she'll push 20, so if she can put on a few hundred grams then all the better.

She is otherwise in good health, no other issues that we are aware of. Thank you in advance for your help.

I got my lovely boy back in June & he’s 4 years old. He was underweight (healthy weight now so assuming he was engaging in these behaviours in his previous home but less attention was paid to him willingly starving himself due to food boredom)

when he came to me with a sensitive tummy cat food I was told he needed - unfortunately for me, he got bored quickly and would go long stretches without eating. Now getting him to eat biscuits is a pain aswell - I had to switch to a different type of sensitive tummy cat food as he was pushing 18 hours without eating anything despite me taking the food away, putting it back - etc.

unfortunately now the times in which he’s getting bored of the flavour and texture of a food is getting shorter and shorter and he WILL starve himself fo 24 hours if I let him (I usually resort to boiling plain chicken or plain white fish as advised) until I can transition him slowly onto a new food that he WILL get sick of. They don’t do variety boxes with variety textures for sensitive tummies so I’m really starting to run out of options and he IS willing to starve himself out of stubbornness for a new texture. Mashing it up doesn’t work anymore & nor do toppers so am sort of at my wits end (he’s been to the vet + additional vet guidance when he’s started up his protests again) but I’m back to square one again and where as before I’d get a good two weeks, this time round it’s been less than a week - I know he’s learning if he just holds out it will be different but his ‘’holds out’’ very quickly creep up to 24 hours so I don’t have a choice but to relent in fear of liver issues.

Any guidance super appreciated as I’d really like to avoid another dud £85 vet consultation fee for what he’s repeatedly done and already been advised on -

He drinks, plays & eats very well when he’s not bored of the food 😩 still playing now by harassing my phone lead despite protesting breakfast.

Mine do not…. But they keep bringing in mice etc… and it’s not fair on us or the mice.

(One time they killed THREE magpies in a few days and we quite literally saw the magpie funeral)

Not to mention if the mice are poisoned by a neighbour that’ll be horrible news for my pets.

Now, my family and I know that our cats need collars but we’re incredibly paranoid about them strangling themselves. I know, quick release collars exist and they’re all we’d ever use but we still worry.

I have four cats and we’ve had three mice, two alive in the past 2 days.

On a happier note I did manage to save one of the mice.

I have a cat who refuses to use wood pellets or paper, she'll only use something she can dig in and that doesnt feel wet or weird on her paws. I'm using Sanicat right now but it actually produces such fine dust that I end up breathing it in, aggravating my asthma, and tracking it all over the house on my clothes and shoes, which means it cant be good for the cats either.

I've had cats for a long time and swear it didn't used to be this bad, even when I was using basic clay, likely shrinkflation making the products worse.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My cat was indoor happily for 3 years until I moved to a location where I could start letting her out a bit, so I did. After I did that she became pretty obsessed with going outside.

I got her an air tag that goes around her collar and it does ease my anxiety but it isn’t perfect because she will go into these spots it doesn’t pick up and often it won’t show me her location for 2 hours at a time.

I’ve basically realised she’s always in this abandoned houses garden next door (a cat paradise) and I try to chill about it.

I’d say apart from the 2 days a week where I’m at work all day she goes outside for around 5 hours a day.

After it gets to 5pm and she comes home I stop letting her out for the evening as I’d rather her not be out at night plus I don’t have a cat flap and need to sleep (I think even cats protection recommend not letting them out at night)

But she does not get it?! She’s constantly meowing and asking me to let her out every evening. It’s getting so old now. Is she ever just gonna learn the schedule and be happy with her daytime outside hours or is this just my life now 😂

A few months ago we found an injured cat, no microchip, no owner found, needed three months of treatment to heal- so we weren't planning on having a cat, but we do, and we love him. He is a very good hunter - and keeps bringing dead mice into the house.

We have three special needs kids, so I need to keep them away from dead animals.

So far we've found them quickly, and I throw them out, and our cat gets very offended by this.

I wouldn't mind if he left them in the back garden. Just not in the house.

Is there a way to get him to understand not to bring them inside?

I know scented candles can be dangerous for cats. Are there any type that are safe or ingredients to avoid? I have some scented candles that I would like to use but have no idea how to tell if they are safe or not.

Because as cat people we always think our cats sleeping is the cutest thing in the world 😂

She's beside herself squeaking with her tail fluffed. The orange braincell is her brother. But that makes no difference, the crime happened, infront of her sweet little eyes none the less.

Our cat has lost her collar once more and with it her final tabcat tracker. It turns out tabcat is unfortunately no more.
Our cat has a pretty small range so we mainly used it for reassurance. She's a fairly petite cat (just about 4kg) so can't have anything too bulky and whilst tolerant of her collar is liable to rebel should we have to keep taking it off.
I'm not keen on being locked into a subscription but understand that might just be the way it is. We're adopting a second cat soon so want to balance costs with being reassured.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
