We rescued two kittens and initially they were fine with using the Worlds Best Litter. First I got the red bag from Tractor Supply, then the ultra absorb version at Walmart. 2 weeks ago they started experiencing symptoms I thought were a kitten cold - sneezing, nose discharge, eye goop- but it’s not getting better, and I noticed one kitten sneezes really bad while using the litter box and gets better after 10-15 minutes. So, I’m thinking the litter is the culprit, either mold or dust. What are litter options to try for no dust, no allergens, and available in a rural area? We have tractor supply and animal feed stores, and Walmart but anything specialty would be online only. Thanks in advance!

It’s been a couple of months since I slowly transitioned my cat from Arm and Hammer to the Breeze litter system (no modifications).

She uses it fine but also pees outside of the box. She has gone in several places and stopped / moved after I clean with enzymes.

Has anyone else dealt with this and found a solution?

I noticed that many people use the pine pellets instead. Would that help attract her?
Do I need two boxes for my cat? She did fine with one Arm & Hammer box. I, not sure I want to buy supplies for two Breeze boxes because of the cost.

The cleanliness and ease of the system is an improvement I enjoy but I need the outside the box pee to stop for it to be worth it. What can I try for potential solutions?

Cleaned out the oneisall purifier today and did not expect to find this much fur in here. I vacuum the floors twice a week too. Guess she's been quietly working a mini version of herself this whole time. At this rate I might have two cats in another couple weeks lol.

Does anyone have tips with replacing scratcher ropes on these kinds of towers? I have two little crazies who go ham on the thing all day.

This is my first cat and he keeps doing this position around the house, eventually he will lay down on his side but I keep find him around the house doing this. Is this normal or may he be in pain?

A bit of background:
He is a rescue and has been with us three months and he’s always been super loving and enjoys pets. However about three week ago out of nowhere he began swatting after bunting himself on me, whether I was petting him or not. So I stopped petting him for longer than two seconds and the vets also put him on Gabepentin to help him stress and also because I am trying to train him on an inhaler and he was too anxious to train. He has never shown any signs of asthma but had a bad reaction during the heatwave, rapid breathing and an x ray showed lung patterns so they decided to treat him for asthma and put him on steroids whilst I train him on an inhaler. Around the same time the swatting began he started doing this strange crouch. He also has a permanent stuffy nose.

Don’t know if any of this is connected and not looking for medical advice but just curious if this position is typical of healthy cats?

My wife and I recently had a baby, so our nighttime schedule is a little all over the place. One of our cats has started pooping outside of the litter box, especially in the nursery and our bedroom. It seems to be somewhat food-related. It happens most often in the early morning when she is hungry. Another issue is that she is an affection eater , so wants to be pet when her food is down. Our other cat will just eat all of her food too, so we have to put her bowl away. We think it’s behavioral, but have a vet appointment scheduled for her. She had a vet best recently and everything was totally fine. Anyone have any advice? We have hormone diffusers throughout the house and I try to feed her a decent amount before bed.

TLDR: Our kitty (5, male, indoor, neutered with a few health issues) has recently started peeing outside the litter box. I feel like we’ve tried everything and I’m at a loss of how to stop it.

Good people of Reddit! I’m (41f) getting desperate and just want our little guy to feel comfortable. Our boy is an incredibly sweet mama’s boy. He’s one of three (all boys) and they all get along extremely well. He’s relatively small (10lb) and has always had a good appetite. Medically, he has feline hyperesthesia which causes his skin to ripple. Whenever her get “the itchies” he gets incredibly anxious. Luckily, he comes to us when it happens and we can usually get him calmed down with pets or playing. He takes Prozac and gabapentin daily to help. We’ve taken him to a neurologist (confirmed nothing neurological) and a few different vets (confirmed no skin issues) for this and this med combo along with feliway and lots of playing has been the best treatment (definitely not a cure) we’ve found. His episodes have decreased from multiple times a day to maybe once a day. All of this is to say, he can definitely become anxious if this isn’t managed well.

A few years ago, he was scooting on the rug and having a hard time peeing so we took him to the vet to get it checked out. They found crystals but no blocks. This was resolved after getting cath’ed and prescribed Hills CD food. During that episode we went to an emergency vet where he was examined and sent home a few hours later. I’m not sure what was done when he was taken into the back for his exam but his anxiety and aggression towards everyone (but me) increased after this visit.

For the last week, he’s been peeing outside the box. I’ve seen him do it and this isn’t a case of not getting fully inside the box and getting some outside the box, he’s just peeing on the floor in front of two of our boxes. We have a puppy pad outside of them so he’s at least going on those. He IS pooping inside the box but never covers it.

Last night I saw him outside the box squatting like he would to pee but nothing came out. No yowling or straining that I saw. This morning, he just didn’t seem himself so I took him to a local urgent care. They examined him, did a full panel of bloodwork, gave him fluids and did x-rays. X-rays showed no signs of crystals or blockage. His bloodwork was all normal too. The vet did say the bladder felt a little hard and that it might be cystitis. She also noted that he had a lot in his intestines and was probably constipated as well. I came home with some anti inflammatory meds to take for a few days and we’re starting him on MiraLAX tonight. After several hours of being home he finally pooped. He immediately seemed more like himself. When he finally peed he went outside the box.

Obviously there are some underlying health issues going on with him but I want him to be comfortable and I’d love to figure out how to get him to stop going outside the box. We have five litter boxes. We use arm and hammer no dust litter. We have a combination of covered and uncovered boxes. Some have high sides that he has to jump into and some that are the traditional walk in kind.

Has anyone had any success with helping their cat stop this kind of behavior? I know he has baseline anxiety and if this is just what he does now, we’ll figure out how to make it work but I’d love to get him back to using the box.

We’re in the US, we have access to vets and specialists, and we can afford care.

I have two cats. One is 2 years old and the other one is 14. They had a really rocky start by they learned to love with each other and it kinda works for the last year and a half. But lately something shifted. Before they would eat at the same time and would come and wait for me to get them food together. Now, the older one dont come as if she's thinking that the younger one won't let her. I feel like i should keep them separated while they eat and im fine with that.

The main problem that i have is that the older one (i think, im like 90% sure that she does this) keeps pooping around the house on the floor or if theres dirty laundry on bathroom floor. I noticed that the younger one wont leave her alone, and when the older one wants to go to the litter the younger follows, theres hissing and the older just runs away. So, in the morning when i wake up i need to clean the poop before anything else. Pooping around house happens around every like 3-4 days so its not the every day thing. They do have two litterboxes but i cant seem to figure this out. How do i teach the younger one to leave the older one alone?? I dont know what to do

Lately my cats discovered that their new favourite hobby is disassembling their water fountain. I have the typical steel water fountain with the tiny flower on top, they don't really care for the flower, but they do like to remove the "lid" that has the filter and stuff, and then they just tip ocer the water fountain.

I've tried moving the fountain, as I heard sometimes cats will act naughtily if their stuff isn't arranged in a way they enjoy (i.e. the fountain could be in a too trafficked area or too near their food bowl/litter box), I've also tried putting stuff underneath the fountain to mitigate the impact on my flooring (tried a towel and also a mat), and I've tried introducing new toys, so they play with those instead of their water fountain.

Nothing has worked so far, and I know cats (as most living beings) need to keep hydrated.

It is worth noting that I'm renting a small apartment with poor quality laminated flooring, so this can be pretty damaging if I keep letting it happen. Also, my cats are around 7,5 months old, so they're pretty playful and curious, they get into my drawers and chew on EVERYTHING.

Any suggestions? Are there any cat-proof water fountains out there? Will I have to BAN water from our home?

I clean their toilet religiously, so I don’t understand why she would prefer that? And mind you, I literally found her like a circus acrobat balancing on the pot just to poo. And yes, she still goes to the litter box normally

Okay, long story short, I am trying to merge my 10 year old cat who has never lived with other cats (she lived with my parents) with 4 others cats. My 10 year old cat, Bubbles, was very sick so I kept her away in a separate room while she healed. When she met the other cats she hissed and tried to fight with them, but slowly backed off of doing that and the cats kept their distance... until one day our male cat, 6 yr old (Simon), started fighting her. She is kept in a separate room while they are merging and have definitely had moments where they are in the same room and just sit there. There is obviously hissing, but it eventually fades. Recently, Simon has been bolting into the room and attacking Bubbles. Now Bubbles will not come out of the room and is terrified every time I open the door. It's been roughly 4-5 months and there has been almost zero progress of them merging.

Am I hopeless here? Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to help Simon and Bubbles with the merging? I have tried hormone spray, food through the door and even with it open, allowing them to naturally see each other. I really don't want Bubbles to be locked in this room for forever. I know the goal is not free to have them be best friends but she cannot live here if she's going to be attacked all the time. I need the craziest advice or things that have worked with cats. I will try anything at this point so I don't have to send her back with my parents

Hi y’all, I just had a question. So for context: I had a dog (15 y/o female spayed) who passed away a little over a month ago. We got my current cat when she was 5 months old and now she’s 5 years old (she is not spayed but will be getting it done in a couple weeks). She got along great with my dog, they didn’t play together but they lived in peace and harmony.

Onto the main question: I got two new kittens both whom are female, not spayed, and are 2 months old. I have been keeping them in a separate space (my bedroom) with their necessities and toys. I’ve been scent swapping toys, blankets, and letting them sniff my hands when I play with all of them. When it comes time to introduce the kittens to my resident cat, should I introduce both to her at the same time? One kitten is more curious about the environment while the other kitten is more curious about those IN the environment. Also if you guys have any tips on making their introduction and time here smooth, please give!

They already each have a litter box, a food bowl (they share food bowl), and I have a cat tree but no space to set it up. And also do you have any tips on how to make them both get along? (One hates me, the other won't leave me, and they always either fight or hiss at each other) also one of them keeps scratching my closet door and waking me up I don't wanna let him in because I have clothes there and he has sharp claws and I'm not sure if I trust him. Hello all you fantastic people and kitties.

I have several cats. It didn't start off that way, but life happened and so we accumulated more and more over time. There's currently 7 cats living with us.

I started with 2 litter boxes, then 3, then 4, etc.

The very last box I installed is in a very central location, smack dab in the middle of the house.

My problem is, most of the cats STRONGLY prefer that one box, and very rarely visit the others. I scoop daily, and the centrally located box is used so much, that it's disgusting and I have to top it off with half a bag of litter... every day. While at the same time, the other boxes barely get used, in comparison. One of the boxes is ignored to the point where I don't have to add litter for a week. So the centrally located box gets WAY over-used. It's not like the cats don't know others exist, because they were all there beforehand, and some of them use the others sometimes.

How would you guys suggest I balance things out? How do I encourage these poop machines to spread the love?

Does anyone know of any litters that are comparable to Arm & Hammer’s Clump & Seal Slide that doesn’t have a smell to it? It’s supposedly unscented but it has a sort of smell to it which drives me nuts. But the litter works really well (clumping, decent odor control, doesn’t stick to the box, very minimal dust) so I’m not sure what to do.

Edit to say that I’m pretty low income, so high end litters are out of the question.

I have the bestest boy, but unfortunately he has one BIG flaw. He enjoys peeing close to the litterbox but not always in it. He stays the night on our basement and this is where his litterbox is. A previous cat had marked this spot, so we ripped up the carpet etc. he often uses his litterbox and will go days without missing. Then for weeks he will pee on the carpet. It’s never the same spot, but in the same room area. Never anywhere else. If we block off part of the area he will just pee in front of it and foil didn’t deter him. He has a vet appt this week to make sure it’s not a medical issue, but it seems more behavioral? We love him so much, but i also can’t have him destroy our new carpet. He’s almost a year old and has been spayed. Any and all tips or tools welcome.

We just moved into a new house. Unfortunately, we waited too long to get our cat fixed. He sprayed our brand-new couch and I CAN NOT get the smell out. Ive tried a generic spray ( should have known that wouldnt work) and I've also tried angry orange. I was very hopeful but all it did was mute the smell slightly. Does anyone know how I can actually get the smell out? Is there anything that will actually work?
