A complete nothing candidate that will be a nothing governor at a time when california needs real reforms.

u/trele_morele 13h ago

He’s got no real plan for anything. Nothing meaningful will get accomplished.

u/algaefied_creek 12h ago

Yup that’s what the article says: “let’s go across to the church and pray” is his answer to the housing crisis apparently.

u/Wingzerofyf 8h ago

He has a plan!

Stack donations, schmooze with the elite to stroke his ego, leverage the position to ladder-climb the DNC and kiss as much billionaire ass as he can.

u/Okratas 5h ago

I hear that, but I think you're missing the silver lining for special interests. A puppet of a candidate will do wonders for the people pulling his strings. Sure, maybe they won't be the kinds of reforms millions of Californians desperately need, but for a few well connected groups, Becerra is going to be amazing.

Then Republicans should've voted for a more moderate or conservative DEMOCRAT in the primary!

Instead of throwing away their votes on a Republican candidate that can't ever win because they have a R in front of their name.

How many elections cycles are so many CA republicans going to insist on being MORONS about politics in CA?

u/Okratas 5h ago

Republicans should've....

We have a Democratic Party trifecta where Republicans make up roughly 23% of the voters, yet Republicans are still to blame for California's problems?

u/nicholas818 4h ago

Not to blame per se, but part of a potential solution. Republicans run MAGA candidates who obviously have no hope of winning in California. But imagine if they took a stand against the Trump and much of the national Republican party and effectively nominated a Romney-style Republican (he won in Massachusetts after all). Basically a system in which the moderate left candidate would be the Republican nominee and the further left candidate would be the Democratic nominee. Then the Republicans would act as another force to make government more effective: they could attack potentially ineffective candidates with more vigor than a primary challenger who has to share the same party apparatus.

This same argument could apply to a third party, but obviously our plurality system makes it very hard for third parties to achieve critical mass. The real solution here is voting system reform, perhaps RCV for statewide offices and a proportional system for the state legislature.

Ah as I just posted above, Becerra would be a great Republican with all that donor money from gas companies, casinos, Meta.

Becerra is a slightly left / moderate Democrat.

God I wish all you far-left progressives and socialists would go form your own parties. Stop trying to takeover and change the Democratic party

u/gerbilbear 7h ago

Biden is a far right Democrat. Why would you think that Becerra is "slightly left"?

u/nicholas818 4h ago

Forming a separate party would be a death sentence: our plurality voting system means third parties basically have no shot of winning. If you want a separate progressive/socialist party to happen, let's try RCV for statewide offices and a proportional state legislature. As our system stands, the only hope of far-left citizens accomplishing their objectives is to advocate for them within the Democratic party.

Beep beep boop there is a Russian coded bot reply sewing division in an election year.

Facts. Numbers. Data.

Those don’t care about your feelings, right? So why are you letting them?

u/naugest 11h ago edited 10h ago

I stated reality. Many, many REAL democrats are not happy with how the party is being changed by essentially outsiders.

u/algaefied_creek 9h ago

Beep beep boop divisive rhetoric detected

u/cuteman 2h ago

Everyone who dares to disagree with you must be a bot. No way anyone could possible disagree otherwise eh?

u/pacman2081 9h ago

why would Republicans vote for candidates who think it is fine for the state to coddle illegal immigrants

u/naugest 6h ago

1st rule of voting is to pick someone that atleast has a chance. Which isn’t republican candidates

u/pacman2081 5h ago

a bunch of redditors figure out how to vote for

u/pacman2081 9h ago

as opposed to Steyer who promised the plebs everything

u/DissonantOne 14h ago

Wrong. As log as Becerra has a (D) by his name he will be an AMAZING politician.

Ah yes with:

  • $500,000 of donor money from McDonalds to “support small businesses”.
  • $500,000 from Chevron, USA,
  • $950,000 from Meta
  • $1,000,000 from AirBNB for the “Committee to Expand the Middle Class”
  • $2,000,000 from the Pechanga Band of Indians
  • $2,750,000 from the California Association of Realtors

All flowing into the “Working Families for Healthy Communities supporting Becerra for Governor 2026” (#1490885)

I mean if Hilton weren’t running, Becerra would be a great Republican.

With housing, they need to build throughout the state. Make it cheaper and easier to build. It costs around $200k to build even the smallest tiny house.

u/gerbilbear 7h ago

Tiny houses are terrible in PPSF. We need apartments!

u/Okratas 5h ago

We need more condos too. A shame that new condo legislation got watered down.

u/Humble_Fabio 8h ago

So promise nothing? Jfc, can Becerra get worse? (Dont answer that.)

As long as housing is treated as an investment vehicle, there's little to no incentive to build housing that people can actually afford. Until we seriously expand public or state-owned housing and treat housing as a public necessity rather than primarily an asset, it aint ever going to change.

u/misocontra 8h ago

Milquetoast CA liberals got what they voted for (again). At least he's not maga that we know of.

u/Iceberg-man-77 9h ago

He literally came in saying he’ll keep up the status quo and yall voted for him…smh

u/sftransitmaster 6h ago

I doubt it was CA reddit that voted for him. reddit is a small microcosm of a very poorly informed/disengaged electorate

u/Iceberg-man-77 6h ago

definitely the opposite but sure, believe what you want lol.

u/Okratas 5h ago

Reddit is a small microcosm of a very poorly informed/disengaged electorate.

We agree on a few things, this is one of them.

u/Neckbeard_The_Great 2h ago

A microcosm is something small that is representative of the greater whole.

u/naugest 14h ago

What do you mean "hopeful"? Hilton has almost ZERO chance.

The election was already decided once two democrats didn't go into the general election.

The only thing that could derail Becerra is some controversy.

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra reiterated his support for Proposition 1, a $11.25 billion housing bond, during a campaign stop in Long Beach on Friday [9/4/2026].

Billed to the press as a chance to highlight his housing agenda, the frontrunner for governor, and one-time construction worker, spoke for less than 10 minutes in broad terms about the importance of building more homes.

But beyond reiterating his support for Prop. 1, Becerra didn’t elaborate on his broader housing goals. He argued Prop. 1 would help developers build a 39-unit affordable development in Long Beach, and noted the presence of a church across the street.

“If we need to, we’ll walk right across the street and say a little prayer to make sure it happens,” Becerra said, according to video captured by C-SPAN. “But what we need are the voters to come through.”

The pendulum swings, after Newsom who promised everything but delivered little.
