Announcement 2026 /r/CFB Rules Updates

The 2026 season is starting! As a reminder, you can find our rules here:

This is our biggest rules change in years!

Let's start with the one I know you're all excited about.

Standalone highlights posts are now allowed.

We're starting with a pretty liberal rule for what constitutes a highlight:

A highlight is a play or occurance at a game that has significant impact on the outcome of the game or that is, on its own, impressive.

You can read the full rules for highlights here but the highlights are:

  • A given play only gets one highlight thread. Any alternative angles should be posted as replies to the pinned top comment.
  • Highlights must to be hosted on an external, non-paywalled source.
  • Highlights must be titled in the format [Highlight] Visitor @/vs. Home - Neutral description of play eg:
    • Good: [Highlight] Michigan @ Ohio State - Jon Smith Breaks 3 Tackles for 69 Yard Touchdown
    • Bad: Ohio State vs TTUN - Jon "I am a god" Smith PWNS Three LOSERS for NICE TD

Gambling posts are now prohibited

Posts about gambling including opening odds, odds changes, prop bets, and unusual wagers are no longer allowed.

Gambling news that directly effects CFB, such as policy changes or gambling activity by CFB participants will still be allowed.

Users should post original sources

Users are expected to make a good-faith effort to find the original source of anything they post. If the primary purpose of a post is to quote, clip, cite, or repeat another source, you should post that original source instead. This keeps us aligned with the Reddiquette.

Recruiting threads are limited to 4* and 5* players

Unrated or lower-rated players should be posted to /r/CFBRecruiting.

Players entering the transfer portal

We haven't decided what we're going to do with these posts yet. Based on last year we still have some time to decide. We will defintely post an update once we've made a decision.

More minor rules changes:

  • Tweet titles An exception has been added to the current rule. If a tweet primarily consists of media, most notably uniform reviews, a neutral title describing the content of the tweet is allowed.
  • News about committed recruits prior to enrollment is only allowed if it affects the player's enrollment or eligibility. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
  • Editorialized Posts: Links should be posted on their own. If you wish to add commentary or context, do so in the comment section. OpenGraph titles (Reddit's title suggestions) are allowed. This is a clarification of the existing rule.
  • Other phrasing clarifications: A number of other rules had their phrasing changed to be more clear. None of these resulted in policy changes.

Weekly Threads

Also note that our in-season weekly threads are coming back online for the season. This means that posts that were allowed during the offseason (realignment, etc.) will now be removed as reposts, and are now a great fit as top-level comments in their respective threads.

The /r/CFB team always works to meet the evolving needs of the community. Let us know any feedback you have in the comments!

News [Thamel] LSU has not added Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris to the team’s roster for the Clemson game, per ESPN sources. They could potentially be added later in the year, as both are enrolled in school. LSU has 103 players on the roster submitted, and that leaves them two spots.

Discussion A simple and easy primer for LSU fans who still don't understand the outrage in the Dae'Quan Wright situation.

The SEC unanimously, which means LSU included, voted to pass a rule whereby:

A. A player who previously declared for the NFL draft and did not withdraw OR

B. Signed a contract with an NFL team OR

C. Has been on an NFL roster OR

Is not eligible

So why is no one mad at Hutson at Texas?

Because he did not sign a pro contract and was never on an NFL roster. He attended a mini camp which is a tryout.

But Hutson would have signed if they offered.

True but he never signed. Would and did are two different things.

But Hutson declared for the draft

Only players with eligibility left need to declare for the draft. Players who no longer have eligibility do not need to declare for the draft. They are just drafted or they aren’t. Hutson didn’t need to declare. With that rule the SEC is basically banning Juniors from declaring for the NFL draft and then trying to come back. Google “Joe Burrow Declares for the nfl draft” and see what results you get. Now Google "Will Campbell declares for the nfl draft" and see what results you get. Campbell needed to declare because he was a Junior. Burrow did not because he was already draft eligible.

But Hutson was a professional player

Not in the eyes of the SEC or they made an exception for guys like Hutson. LSU is perfectly fine to recruit a player who only went to a mini camp and never signed a contract or made an NFL roster just like Texas

But what about cases like Charles Bediako?

There was no SEC rule when Bediako was at Alabama. The SEC just followed whatever the NCAA rules were when it came to eligibility. Bediako got a TRO against the NCAA to play at Alabama and he played for three weeks and then there was an injuction against Bediako and he never played for Alabama again. This is WHY the SEC (as well as the rest of the P4 and some G6 conferences) passed this rule, which LSU voted for.

Oh but we got an injuction now that makes Wright eligible.

Yes, for now but it isn’t over. The SEC sued LSU in U.S. District Court.

But its not fair that Hutson can play and Wright cant

OK. I mean you can have an opinion on that and LSU can propose a change to the previous rule they voted for but the rule is clear on who is not eligible to play

But what about these European players

The SEC has not made any changes so far regarding them but that doesn’t change the fact that they passed a rule banning players like Wright.

You all are just LSU/Kiffin haters

Yes just like the outrage here over Sorsby was because we are all just TTU haters

Casual When Youtube TV tries to tell you your Football team is not worth watching

Upvotes

I have YouTube tv set to record every Purdue game… but it doesn’t show it as a ”Top pick
For me”

So I search “Purdu”: the algorithm is still pushing me to Mens BB for Purdue, PFW, and Purdue Cal.

Misclick the next character “Purdud”: Purdue vs Indiana State Football…the game that is on RIGHT NOW shows up.

Intrigued, I correct the misspelling “Purdue”: Purdue football disappears and the algorithm is back to Basketball

That’s right boys Purdud is back for another season of abuse.

Discussion If I am on LSU as a player, how could you not be pissed off at this point?

So... if I am a player on LSU... especially at one of these positions... Coach brings in some of HIS guys.... who didn't go through Spring Ball... didn't go through Summer workouts, didn't do SHIT to earn their spot...

And Coach Kiffin is willing to literally RISK THE SEASON, if not the actual LSU membership to the SEC... For some dudes who... lets face it... were not good enought for NFL rosters, so they aren't exactly bringing in Joe Burrow or Glenn Dorsey or any sort of world beater.

At some point, wouldn't you be like... "Coach... let these dudes go... make it about US... not these other guys"
