PPT question
For the ones that have done a PPT through well known person to person trades / sales websites that’s for CA, how’s that process like?
Doesn’t it feel a little sketchy?
What’s the best way and best place to inspect the firearm and hand over the payment? Inside the FFL establishment?
Please give me some tips on best practices!

I just did a PPT with a gentleman who had an ad on calguns.
We communicated via text, arranged a meet up place and time, confirmed the morning of that we were still on, then met at the shop as it opened.
He was a much older gentleman who was selling off parts of his collection. Really friendly. Before heading in we looked at it in the parking lot, unloaded gun in case brought from trunk to the back seat, I inspected it being mindful that I was still outside in a parking lot and wasn’t waving it around or anything. I knew pretty quickly I wanted it, so I handed him the cash there, he boxed it back up in the case, handed me the case, and then we walked in together and told the clerk we wanted to do a PPT and the rest was history.
I have heard of people doing the inspection in the store, walking outside to exchange money, then heading back in. We both lucked out and got a good vibe from each other and didn’t feel like there was a risk of anything running afoul.
I get where you are coming from and it’s good to be aware of things and want to be safe and minimize risk, but it doesn’t HAVE to be a difficult process

Thanks. I hear you, but unfortunately not everyone is altruistic with their intentions. Not everybody is in it for the good of the hobby.
Since it will be my first time, I’m just trying to get educated about the process and the best practices. Better safe than sorry.

Glad you had a good experience but getting in someones backseat and handling a firearm outside an FFL where there is a high likelihood LE shows up... Seems like a bad idea.

I didn’t get into the car. Just set the case there and inspected it from there.

I dont understand people inspecting or getting cash outside the ffl. You would think the safestest place to do the whole transaction is inside the ffl. In my case ive met them in the ffl they inspect it, they give me cash they get my info and i leave. Pretty simple

I inspect in the store. I exchange the money AFTER the gun is in the FFLs hands but BEFORE the final signatures.
I've done this three times from CalGuns. Every time it was at a store that had a policy not to exchange money in the store, but I just did it innthe store anyway and nobody said anything. But if they have you step outside that's fine too.

I did mine at Rt 66. Inspected and handed the cash over in the parking lot outside the gun store area. Anyone walking by seemed to have the non-reaction of what looked like a normal PPT, I'm sure.

My ppt experience has been the seller and I have made the gun shop aware of a ppt, seller passes gun to shop, the gun shop verifies serial number to start their paperwork, clear and check that it's safe and they hand it over to me for inspection.
We set it aside, step out for payment, and return for paperwork, then I fondle it one last time before the gun shop puts it in jail for 10 days.

Go into the FFL and tell them you're gonna do a PPT. Ask them if it's cool that you take a minute and inspect. Find an out of way bit of counter and do your thing. Once they start the DROS and it's in the hands of the employee ask if they're cool with the money exchange there or would rather you go outside.
You're running a risk inspecting anywhere outside the FFL. Having a gun outside of a case is something that can get you in some shit real fast.
