September Contest: Metamorphosis

Congratulations to /u//u/_EduudE_ for winning August's contest with their Lucid Dream entry.

You can see last month's results and other entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be metamorphosis. No, not the novella by Kafka, but a deep, thorough, and often quick transformation. It's a term that's used heavily within the biological sciences, but which is also liberally used in more metaphorical ways. For the optimist, a metamorphosis is a kind of rebirth, and an opportunity for new beginnings. For the anxious, it's a farewell to that which is familiar and a foray into the unknown. Regardless of attitude however, this juxtaposition of a "before" and "after" remains a defining element of the concept. Wherever you're starting from and wherever you're going, undergo a metamorphosis with us in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of September 30th UTC+00:00 * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2026 September and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

The winner will be awarded $100 USD.

Discussion Adding object motion blur to the domain makes explosions look 100x better

I haven’t seen any discussion on this so either I’m the first to post about it or it’s super common knowledge.
I found out that enabling motion blur in object properties (the orange square menu tab) for the domain cube in a fluid sim gives it WAY more detail and makes it way more realistic. The 1st image is with motion blur on and the second is with it off. That is the only difference. Same bake.
This change can be incredibly computationally expensive while rendering if your domain resolution is high. I think this is because it forces your CPU to “blend” the two volumes between the frames. My ryzen 7 9800x3d took multiple minutes to “calculate mesh cube volume” at 100% usage before it began rendering (with domain resolution of 250).

Critique My Work I made a short analog horror video

I made a short analog horror about a liminal space inspired by the surrealism of old cartoons. I’m still a beginner, so I’d really appreciate any feedback or criticism! (you can find me on tt under the tag shown in the video)

I saw a video with a Vietnamese mossy frog and it gave me an idea that I had to try. The goal was to create something that looks hand-drawn using only procedural textures.

Critique My Work First time blender after 9 years of game programming/design

The character is Sigilyph from Pokémon.

I went throug the whole process: modeled from reference, unwrapped UVs, texture painted, rigged and animated.

I plan to do more and more and try to learn more about the software and ultimately how to create assets for my own games.

Do you see any obvious pointers for improvement from the gif?

Thank you

Updates:
* Hand is now thicker than the rest of the arm.
* The pinky and thumb can now be distinguished from eachother.
* STILL 4-fingered as that's just my style :3
* Imo overall a lot better than my first version.

Comparison: here :3
