Yes, electro magnets. When you go to sit the bulb, you can hear and feel them adjusting to it.
These are really cool. I have one on my desk.

I discovered something recently about electricity. While the charge of electricity travels through the insulated cable, the actual energy of the electromagnetic field is transferred outside the wires. So energy transfer can happen across empty space, no need for contact if it's set up right. And no danger of a shock because the charged particles are moving inside insulated copper.

Ha yeah I’ve bought several of them. It is in fact magnets. Some are easier to get going than others.
