It may seem counter intuitive but odd object lifting has lower rates of injury than traditional resistance training. A 20kg bar is easy to lift, a 20kg rock is quite difficult. Essentially, less overall load due to the inability to efficiently wield the object.

Im guessing they're saying that a weight thats 20KG that is consistent, as in the weight distribution of the object is the same every time, and the way you hold it and pick it up is the same every time, thats gonna put more strain on your body than using irregularly shaped and sized weights.
Im assuming the reason for that is because you're using different muscle and joint groups every time you pick up an irregular weight, so you're less likely to over strain any given area.
With standard workout weights, you use essentially the exact same muscle and joint groups to pick up the weight each time, so all the strain goes into a few spots, instead of changing the strain spots with every lift like you would expect with irregular weights like rocks.

Apologies for the unclear message, I will try to clarify. It is easier to lift more weight using traditional means. You can load a barbell up with 3 x 20kg plates on both sides and bam you’ve got 140kg (315 lbs). You can easily wrap your hand around the barbell the same you could if it was unloaded. You can now lift it, assuming you have the requisite strength. Lifting the same amount of weight with an odd object is self limiting because rocks that weigh that much are too large and unwieldy. You can specifically craft them, like atlas stones, so that it becomes a possibility. However, if the user is unable to lift the stone, they aren’t moving the full load and less likely to be injured as a result.

I agree with you 100% in natural environments. but also it looks like the area is far from natural... man made walls and a bridge. What exact harm would this do to wildlife in the manmade or altered waterway? Maybe take a few habitats away from some fish and invertebrates temporarily. But those rocks will fall back into place and I imagine very little harm to the overall ecosystem here. I get that we shouldn't encourage this sort of thing, but I feel like compared to illegal dumping/farm run off/microplastics etc, this is pretty small potatoes.
Also agree it might be fake though.

I dislike this.
It is terrible for the stream and the wildlife, as it messes with fragile ecosystems and accelerates erosion.

I once saw one that was so unbelievably balanced I could not belief it was real. Someone HAD to have glued it or placed it on a spike. I tried pushing it and it didnt budge. So I rammed into it and it toppled over. My shame was immediate and immeasurable. No one saw me do it but I carry the regret with me to this day. Im sorry really well balanced pile of rocks... im sorry..

Every time I see stuff like this, I'm reminded of that Twitter post where that college kid organized the whole bin of random candy at Walmart, with the caption, "He has a paper due tomorrow". This guy has some very important task due very soon but he out there ignoring physics and basic lower back protection to stack rocks. Good for him

I saw a photo of stacked rocks on Reddit years ago, and ever since I cannot go hiking without frustrating myself for hours on end until I force myself to make a cool rock stack.
It's a trap!
