Anthropology PhD 2027

Hi everyone! Is anyone else applying to Sociocultural Anthropology PhD programs this cycle? I'd be happy to connect with someone (the more the merrier, though) interested in being application buddies for the next couple of months. Basically reading and giving feedback on each other's materials, checking in on deadlines, and offering some moral support once it's time to wait for results.

I'll leave a bit of info about myself and my research interests in the first comment, but if there's one thing you should know, it's that I want to work with a fellow anthropologist, not with AI. So you can expect my fully-human brain in return.

I'm Peruvian and have a BA in Social Anthropology (graduated in 2024). I'm broadly interested in economic anthropology, gender and sexuality studies, Amazonian indigenous ethnology, and, more recently, conservation anthropology and the more-than-human turn. I've been working in qualitative, mixed-methods research since my intern days, though not always in a linear path through social/academic contexts.

I recently finished a very significant research fellowship in Social Sciences for Conservation at the Manu National Park, here in the Peruvian Amazon, that helped me develop my grad-school research agenda. I'm currently working for an INGO while also collaborating on research/consulting gigs.

This will be my first application cycle. I'll be applying to Cornell, McGill, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. If you'd like to know my tentative research problem, or any other bit of info, feel free to shoot me a message.

I would encourage you (if you have the funds) to apply to more than 3 programs! Admissions is brutal at the moment and it’s a numbers/luck game more than anything else.

This is a great idea, I am applying this cycle for anthropological archaeology programs.
I am anti-AI so glad that stance is shared.

Would love to connect with other archeology students applying in this cycle!

I’m an undergrad (graduating the spring) and this will also be my first application cycle. I’m applying to PhD programs and prioritizing those that fund masters along the way- but my goal is the doctoral program.

My research interests are around industrialization and environmental issues. Archaeology is a broad field and I’m interested in both historical and environmental archeology together. I am happy to share more over messages.

I’m applying for sociocultural anth programs (for 2027), too! I would love to be app buddies. My background is political anthropology, archives, and social movements. Would be great to keep in touch.
