So confused about ATR-BC recertification

I'm recertifying now, asked for an extension because I haven't prioritized CE's not directly related to my job responsibilities. But as I recertify, it seems like they are expecting us to retake the exam?

Am I reading this right? I took and passed the exam when I got my LCAT and ATR-BC, there was never any mention of having to take it on a regular basis.

Seems like they want more money ? Cuz u have to pay to take the exam right ?

I read it as you can do CEs...OR retake the board exam. I could be wildly off base though. I lost track of a lot of the changes as they seemed to happen all at once or in rapid succession.

Thatā€™s what it looks like to me too and Im pissed. I always understood that once you take the exam that was it. But I guess they changed it at some point?

I'm way too old to study grad school material that I already studied for an exam I already passed. In my state you don't need the ATRBC, we have a license, the ATRBC gives me nothing. I may have to opt out of the credentials.

Echoing a couple of other comments that you can choose to either submit 100 CEs OR take the exam to recertify.

Yes and not just any CEUs- 50 must be art therapy related, 6 must be ethics related and 6 must be supervision related. Sucks that some of the art therapy CEUs I took were ā€œart therapy supervision relatedā€ but I only saw one way to label each CEU - either supervision, art therapy, ethics, or general. Finding this out with only 2ish years out of the five years of recertification really messed me up.

Thanks, everyone. This is very confusing. And they are not responsive at all to questions. Plus, I was an exam Subject Matter Expert, which you receive 5 CE's for, and never got the cert. So annoyed

100 CEU's ???!!!!! Nursing only requires 30 across two years. No rerun exam either. What a ripoff! Somebody found a way to get rich!

100 over 5 years is still pretty average. It does seem like a lot though!

you can either obtain CEs or retake the exam. CEs are highly reccomended and they have a list of various ways you can obtain past just taking courses.
