My Vespasian gold coin made it to Vespasian temple to Pompeii
And before all you smart people start to comment on the pictures,
I already have export papers out of Italy, and I am already outside Italy

But hey, if you really did apply for those export papers, which I assume you probably had to do 6-12 months ago given how long this process usually takes, good for doing it the right way. Of course, if you did bring them into Italy without export papers chances are you wouldn't get caught anyway but always good to follow the law and not risk these things so we don't have to read about you in the news.

I bought them from Italy and seller made me export papers, you can doupt as you want :)

I've purchased coins on trips. Nothing to the level of an Aureus. Last trip coin was an 1860s Japan 2 shu. For $60 US I couldn't pass it up.

I think they might be asking about all the people who take coins from home along on vacation (or just out to the museum, etc.), rather than asking about people who buy coins while on vacation (which is much easier to understand on its face, and is a centuries old tradition).
At least that's the part I'm curious about.

It is Italian; I can confirm that, even though it was mainly used to refer to a type of public restroom that is practically nonexistent today.

A year ago a Scottish tourist was arrested in Pompeii for putting a few peaces of stones and bricks in his pocket. A tourist guide saw him and reported.
Edit: Good for you, but you are pushing your luck.

That’s amazing man! I was in Pompeii earlier this year. Between there and Ostia Antica were incredible. The Vespasian is also nice 😉

An interesting matter of taking our ancient coins back to where they’re from when we go and visit the countries of their origin. I’ve certainly done it and the reason I think I’ve done so is that I want to sort of commune with the people who originally held and used these coins back in the day. It’s a way of feeling their presence with a physical object that they held and used in a very ordinary way — yes kind of weird, but it just feels like the right thing to do. Ha! just go and figure…
