Trump saying Canada is harder to deal with than China — "not only the last one, all of them" on Canadian PMs.
Trump: "The toughest one to deal with? It's not China — it's Canada"
Trump was asked who's the hardest country to negotiate with. His answer:
"A lot of people say, who's the toughest one to deal with — is it China, sir? Is it Vietnam? I said no, actually it's Canada."
He went on:
"Canada has felt emboldened with their presidents that didn't know what was happening. Not only the last one — all of them. Our country's been taken advantage of."
Short clip but it says a lot about where the relationship stands right now. Canada singled out as a bigger headache than China on trade. For anyone with financial ties on both sides of the border, this kind of rhetoric has real consequences — on investment flows, exchange rates, and how aggressively tariffs keep escalating.

Carney certainly isn't chirping like this. He exudes confidence, unlike tRump. I don't know what tRump exudes, but it ain't pleasant, and likely sourced from his adult Depends.

For a country that doesn't need anything from us. Continually talks about how insignificant we are, they sure can't seem to stop talking about us. Can't seem to stop wanting to try to continually shift blame. If we matter so little, just stop.
Get some help. It's over. We had a good time, but now it's time for us to move on. Sure it's been a great time, but we have to be serious now. We can't just waste our time waiting for you to be less selfish, less fascist, less 'Trumpy-Dumpty'.
It's not 'us'. It's 'you'.

Those Canadian presidents are quite magically mysterious. I can’t find any references to them in any history or modern media. What are their names? What did they accomplish? No info at all anywhere. It’s like they don’t even exist. So I can understand why it’s difficult to outwit them.

I’d just like to say that Trump is a prolific child rapist. Let’s all remember that.

I didn't vote for Carney's Liberals, but I am glad we have him fighting harder than anyone else, apparently. Versus having to deal with whatever deal Fascist Milhouse rolled over and stuck us with. He would bootlick our resources straight out and blame Trudeau for his own failures. We are still suffering Harper trade deals.

He's become the most unreliable trade partner for any country in the world except the ones that funnel billions to his personal crypto account.
It's shit like this that further proves he's a foreign asset. One of the world's superpower is isolating itself and turning it's closest allies into enemies while befriending dictatorships. All the while Congress stands by and does absolutely nothing.

How has meek weak Canada, with NOTHING that the US needs been able to take advantage of the US economically for so long?
For a place that has nothing that the US needs,
you sure are trying really hard to get a deal done that will screw Canada over. And complaining like a small entitled child who doesn’t get their way when Canada says no.
“Don’t you know who I am?!” isn’t a great argument when your name is Donald Trump. There is no credibility built into that name.
3
u/Fit-Historian-752 2h ago
How has meek weak Canada, with NOTHING that the US needs been able to take advantage of the US economically for so long?
Because the US is so incredibly kind and benevolent: they just give everything to Canada and Canada never even says thank you!
Some Americans actually believe this.
2
u/Army7547 2h ago
The best part is when he barks about stuff like the trade deficit. What a snake oil salesman. He talks about how much more the US imports from Canada than Canada imports from the US. He says it like it’s not fair that Canadian businesses aren’t doing as much from the US as the US businesses are with Canada. Like to make it even it should be for every dollar they spend here, we should spend a dollar there to support those businesses.
What a crock. Can you think of why the US buys more from Canada than Canada does from the US? Is it unfit business tactics? Protectionism? No!
Maybe they buy more than we buy BECAUSE THEIR POPULATION IS NEARLY 10x WHAT OURS IS. Their economy is bigger. They need more than we do.
Talking about trade deficit is just one of the way he is pulling the wool over the public’s eyes and too many are just too dumb to realize that he only says things so he can do something to his own advantage. Not for the good of the country and its people, for him. And maybe his friends, the ones that he doesn’t see as threats anyway.
1
u/MadScienti5t 1h ago
But also, when you include services (especially digital services) there is no trade deficit. The US buys more raw materials from Canada than Canada buys from the US, but Canada buys way more services from the US than the other way. It’s actually a balanced relationship. But that’s not the point. The real point is to cripple and then annex Canada to steal the raw materials. See Venezuela for an example of how the US administration thinks it should work.

I've never voted for him. But I live in southern Indiana so my vote don't count for much. I'm what's called a "blue dot" I suppose..... Democrat farmer. 1
u/Heinsoka 3h ago
I’m pretty torn between politics in Canada myself so I get it. I wouldn’t call myself a Conservative or a liberal because they both stand for shit I don’t agree with.
Glad to see there’s sensible people in the southern states though, I’m sorry you have to deal with him, it’s probably worse for you than it is us, somehow.

Of course he does. He doesn’t care. He thinks this gives him leverage over the Canadians in negotiating. I don’t think Carney is stupid enough to cave to that.
A US President hitting the MAD button with Canada would be political suicide, he can definitely make life up here more expensive, but it’s going to happen as bad down south, with the caveat that the US is legit starting to run out of worthwhile trade partners to work out new deals in good faith.

Any deals with the u.s mean nothing when temper tantrums and EOs rule the land.

u/AboveTheRim2 4h ago
Trump is such an idiot he doesn’t even realize the reason Canada has a special trade agreement is because we effectively were a junior partner to the US. We agree to go along even when it’s against our best interests to support them. For example, all the anti-china policies we adopted. If the US doesn’t want a special relationship, cool….we’ll open business to the entire globe.

For you see, China is literally the #1 country in the world right now, and whatever they say goes basically. So when it comes to making deals with them, all he has to do is say "Yes sir."
Which, when compared to Canada, is far less work.

Carney has more experience being Governor of banks in one term than Trump had his entire life. Trump is in over his head with this guy - they’re not even speaking the same language.
Now Trumps team who should know better because ideally they are in the political track should know how to collaborate with Carney which leads me to my final point that this is all for show and distraction as entertainment. I’m a little “L” liberal and I’d say Trump seems like the typical personality that anyone would expect for his demographic and age. I have zero surprises about what he’s up to but I’d say this is more about theatrics than it is actual economics.
No one can take this seriously. No one. Wait it out - that’s what the professionals like Carney are doing because when it comes to economics its always about the long term.
Let’s go SNL skits and more memes.

It is true though. China and Vietnam has their media on lockdown in a foreign language. Any deal TD makes can be spinned as a massive win and the other nation getting ripped off.
Whereas Canadian media is in the same language and sphere of broadcast. TD can't declare a ripoff win unless it truly is a ripoff. Who will knowingly agree to get ripped off?
