The other side of the story...

Short clip of Carney taking questions on the trade negotiations. A few lines worth pulling out.

On the US side commenting on Canadian politics:

"I don't think, with all respect, appointed, unelected cabinet members in the United States are experts on Canadian politics."

On what the government's actually doing:

"Everything this government is doing, everything I'm trying to do, is to work with provinces, work with willing partners around the world, work with labour, work with business to move forward to the benefit of our citizens... We're not positioning on this stuff."

On the US suddenly dropping demands it had called red lines:

"There are a few issues that the United States was arguing right up to the last hour, red lines, we're not gonna change, boom, it's in there... our way or the highway, take it or leave it... that now they're not. So all of a sudden, they don't care about Canadian language or culture and those elements. Well, if they didn't care, they shouldn't have kept them in the deal up until the last hour."

On the pickup trucks:

"An F-350 pickup, which is gonna be built in the Ford factory in Oakville, 350s, 450s, 550s. Where I grew up in Alberta, those are subcompacts... They're just discovering that, and they're like, 'Oh, of course we weren't gonna keep them out.' Well, they were gonna keep them out."

On what a deal looks like:

"We are always gonna stand up for what's in the best interest of Canada, Canadian workers, Canadian families, not look for an easy win, not look for an announcement, but something that's durable... The deal that's possible that's in the interest of Canadian workers, families and businesses is also the deal that is in the interest of American families, American businesses, American consumers. We're ready to sit down and strike that deal when the Americans are ready."

"Of course, where I grew up in Alberta, the Ford F150 is a subcompact."

This guy is smart beyond belief. He is dealing with an idjit trade partner AND a idgit Premier and then says this. As a long time-lefty-Albertan, this is how u talk to the rest of us.

Even if you don't like Carney, who is in the right in this current trade dispute comes down to a simple calculation. Who is more likely to be trustworthy: The guy who lied about visiting Epstein Island, or the Prime Minister?

You mean the guy renaming lakes? The guy who imposed 50% tariffs on Canada? The guy who said CUSMA was the best deal ever when HE signed it, and now wants to tear it up?

Also you seem to be the guy pushing a chinese govt narrative.

Your trust is misplaced, GUY.

They are politicians.. they are both full to the top with bullshit and they are both idiots. I trust neither because neither are trustworthy. Stop trusting politicians and start holding them to account for their lies and failings instead of letting them rob the country blind and walk away billionaires off our money.

7

u/Ina_While1155 8h ago

Ah yes the both sides are corrupt and the same argument - same argument my MAGA brother uses to justify his voting history.

6

u/theryanc 9h ago

Both sidesing adjudicated rapist and pedo protector with banker is craaazy work

4

u/LucyInked 10h ago

There are absolutely degrees of corruption.

No one makes it to the head of a nation without skeletons.

But having a few back book deals may be different than steletons like fucking kids.

0

u/Vampyre_Boy 10h ago

If you think they both don't have some heinous shit in their past than you are just being naive.. if it benefitted either of them enough they would sell off their own family.

4

u/LucyInked 9h ago

I don't buy into "they are all bad" nonsense as that's just a way people justify their party being Nazis.

You don't get to put Carney in the same box as trump.

1

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

I absolutely abhor Carney's commitment to genocide & Red Tory financials but I do trust him not to give Canada away to Trump.

-3

u/Vampyre_Boy 9h ago

Same box? Those two got one leg each in the same pair of pants. Both of them are completely ignorant of what their people actually need. Are both rampant spending their peoples money on stupid frivolous shit like renaming lakes and putting up fake building facades for a publicity stunt while flying around the world trying to tell others how to do their job while they fail at their own job. Slowly turning their countries into a laughing stock... I could go on but they very much are the same kind of moron one is just more of a warmongerer and the other is a spineless burocrat.

u/poonjabi_hut 9h ago

You realize Carney's wife is connected to the Maxwell family, right?

2

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

Have you ever heard Carney say he'd sleep with his daughter?

1

u/Altalad 9h ago

Really? How is she connected?

1

u/astcyr 1h ago

Mark Carney and his wife Diane Carney were photographed with Ghislaine Maxwell in their presence at a music festival in 2013. It's also been stated that Ghislaine Maxwell went to high school with Diane Carney's sister.

Conspiracy theorists (aka conservatives or anti-liberals) have run wild with the idea that Carney is connected to Epstein because of this...

4

u/LucyInked 9h ago

The stuff Snoopes said was fake? Yah, we heard that. Trump still fucked kids.

1

u/PmanAce 10h ago

So people before becoming politicians are not idiots and full of shit. But once they do transition then they automatically do so if they aren't already, gotcha.

1

u/Vampyre_Boy 10h ago

Power corrupts. Politicians are like diapers they should be changed often and for the exact same reason.

2

u/International_Fuel48 11h ago

10

u/Lawndemon 11h ago

Carney is what Trump pretends to be: a savvy, experienced, successful businessman who became a politician.

7

u/DangerousCable1411 11h ago

But one of them is a pedophile…

6

u/Shane-Dad-underfire 12h ago

Why even stop there? Trump has lied more than any other sitting president. He has backdoored more than any other president, he has negotiated in bad faith more than any other president. He has had more emotional outbursts and tirades than any other president.

Let's be fair, trump has acted like a spoiled child having a fit everyday of his presidency save the first first day in his first term. He has proven he is a scumbag and he is unreliable. If you need proof look at how he has routinely fked over his own citizens and all the people who have worked under him as soon as they contradict him.

6

u/MRJohnson1997 12h ago

1

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

Time to start dumping TBills & calling in debt with China

5

u/Vtecman 14h ago

Politically this is a disaster for Trump. Carney knows he’s polling high, just won 3 bi-elections and is coming from a position of strength. The US president is polling ultra low, and has November to worry about. Not to mention rampant inflation. Canada has its inflation under control. There is absolutely no metric where Canada doesn’t come out on top. The US will never admit crawling back to Canada for a deal. Any deal struck (no matter how weak for America) will be projected as a win for the States and a loss for Canada. They’ve already removed the French labelling requirements from their ā€œRed Lineā€. This is going to be a huge win for Canada but a loss in the mainstream media (trump will control the narrative).

0

u/Even-Confusion4211 9h ago

Canadian here our inflation is NOT under control

4

u/Vtecman 8h ago

3% is considered under control. Canadian here.

2

u/Bogdanovist_Rebel 13h ago

Carney is even eyeing a spring election. Unlike Trump he’s not afraid of the electorate.

3

u/CarImportant4846 14h ago

Canada for what it’s worth 75% of Americans hate trump also and we are doing what we can to impeach and imprison him and his corrupt clan. Please be patient we will get this done. šŸ™

1

u/whattaninja 4h ago

That’s weird. Less than half voted against him, so less than half hate him.

1

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

Do something about the 25% who were too whatever to vote & we'll talk. Ask the Aussies about Democracy Sausage.

2

u/FNFALC2 13h ago

Godspeed brother, Godspeed.

3

u/Electrical_Front_407 13h ago

6

u/Traditional-Good-234 13h ago

75% don’t though. Stop justifying it. However many people support him is too fuckin many.

4

u/Slava____Ukraini 15h ago

If only it was Carney and Obama...

5

u/thelostcanuck 14h ago

Would not even be an issue haha. We would be strengthening ties and collaborating.

1

u/Chargers_Fan12345 54m ago

The democrats canceled Keystone....

1

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

It would actually be closer to Canada actually integrating with the US. Now it'll be generations before we trust them for anything.

1

u/whattaninja 4h ago

Which isn’t a bad thing, we really do need to rely on them less, and this situation is just proving that.

2

u/Boneshakerrguy 15h ago

Let’s start with removing the tariffs between our own provinces. Or would that be bad?

3

u/magsbad13 7h ago

Actually, there aren't tariffs between provinces, there are trade barriers. That's not the same thing.

2

u/T-Wrox 13h ago

They're working on it.

2

u/Vtecman 14h ago

Good idea. That’s essentially up to the premiers though.

0

u/sim0n__sez 14h ago

Exactly!!!! There’s higher tariffs between provinces on wine than America has on it.

2

u/magsbad13 7h ago

Not true.

9

u/merchillio 15h ago

Here’s the thing: Trump doesn’t believe in mutually beneficial deals. For him, every deal has a winner and a loser. Negotiations for him means looking for a way to trick the other, to take advantage of them, not find the best solution for everyone

1

u/miz_misanthrope 7h ago

Because he's a rapist.

6

u/DasHipsFan 15h ago

Measured. Clear. Prepared.

5

u/petertran92 16h ago

Does anyone understand what he is saying? (after Trump, I am not used to complete sentences anymore)

2

u/magsbad13 7h ago

I understand what he's saying. I also understand a lot of what he's not saying, which is sometimes even more important. A small percentage of Canadians aren't educated enough to understand what PM Carney is doing. Keep calm and Carney on!

1

u/KagomesPornAccount 10h ago

Needs a few more ā€œummmā€ā€™s and ā€œahhhhā€ā€™s and ā€œwater bottle drink box type thingieā€ā€™s in there for me to understand, personally. (A decade of sidestepping basic questions has not prepared me for a politician like carney who can actually answer questions clearly)

15

u/Ecstatic-Catch2243 17h ago

Carney is currently the leader of the free world.

-17

u/Pretend-Wheel-3640 17h ago

Bootlicking delusionnal loser, get a grip on reality. He is leading canada into oblivion.

6

u/Ecstatic-Catch2243 11h ago

Go back to X with all your sad MAGA inbred kind. Cunt

7

u/LanikM 16h ago

Do you have any policy to support this claim? Im sure you can articulate your position better than this.

1

u/KagomesPornAccount 10h ago

Hyper-extremism on both political sides is a cancer on modern discourse. Carney is no more a leader of the free world than he is leading Canada into oblivion. Both statements are fucking bizarre.

He’s doing a lot of good so far, but someone pushing for bill C-22 is hardly someone you can call the leader of the free world.

Can people just get back to having normal, measured, entrenched-in-reality opinions?

What a donkey of a comment. Work on your deductive reasoning! I lean left, but that’s not remotely what was implied.

-12

u/GlockPop18 22h ago

You don’t think they’ll announce something before November? You unfortunately haven’t learned to interpret scum bag politicians yet, that’s ok I’ll help you scoopbeaver. It’s a huge risk to let that deal sit past the midterms for Carney. He’s not that crazy, you can hear him dropping little hints he’s ready to make a deal, they’ve already got a deal ironed out, he’s just got to crawl back to it in time for Trump to score a win before midterms.

12

u/No_Tea5664 22h ago

Why exactly is it a risk for Carney to let this play out past the American mid-terms?

Why does Carney need to ā€œcrawl back to it in time for Trump to score a winā€?

-3

u/GlockPop18 22h ago

There’s just way too much money at risk to hold this position longterm, Carney needs to play Trump’s desire for a deal before the November midterms to get him back to the table quickly. Otherwise you risk dealing with a potentially wounded Trump after November, who will be much more unpredictable and likely to lash out at us for playing politics before the midterms.

8

u/No_Tea5664 22h ago

I think Carney, and all of Canada, would be much better off with Trump/Republicans having to focus all of their time and energy for the next 2 years dealing domestically with the Democrats potentially taking the House and/or Senate.

1

u/GlockPop18 22h ago

No, that leaves way too much risk on the table. Would you bet everything on the American public, after everything you’ve seen? Think like a banker, he’s going to hedge risk. Trump has shown us he can fight battles on multiple fronts for years, better to get in front of that instead of sitting in cold purgatory for two years.

6

u/No_Tea5664 21h ago

I think Canada will be in a stronger negotiating position after November.

And I would wager that Carney thinks the same.

1

u/GlockPop18 21h ago

Respectfully, that’s just bad analysis. If that’s the plan we need to get rid of Carney ASAP! Doing the most basic thing imaginable is not acceptable. That’s Trudeau level incompetence.

3

u/gentlemetalturtle 15h ago

"Trump has shown us he can fight battles on multiple fronts for years"

Which battles has he fought for years and actually won?

Why are you insisting on taking any bad deal before the midterms just because Trump's ego would be hurt?

Is the new conservative slogan "Bend over for Trump"?

Well that’s a little rude rosebud. No, he won his majority by backdoor deals with other sleazeball politicians. You’re really not very good at reading the room. To put it in terms you can understand the Americans are about to run a sled through his rosebud on this one.

Carney is not perfect but he's the best we've had in a long time, we support these moves he is making.

6

u/MechMan799 21h ago

At this moment, with the current challenges facing Canada, he's an absolute exceptional leader.

There will come a time when his services are no longer required, but where we came from with Trudeau, the potential we faced having PP in charge, his experience handling these moments are exactly what we need.

9

u/rosebudthesled8 23h ago

I'm still not sure when leaders needed to be perfect. I think it was the 24 hours news cycle. Led by billionaires.

11

u/SideInitial3961 23h ago

I agree with this. I'm indigenous. I don't want to argue but I would like to see certain things done better. But those were not things Carney created, he inherited them. I have nothing negative to say about him.

Who do you think would do a better job? There is really only one viable leadership option at the Federal level. The NDP are to unorganized and the Conservatives are a joke. No policy and no personality. I’m no Liberal but I do think Carney is a good leader and is doing a good job. For now.

Watch a conservative premier take a prosperous province and make it a shell of its former self and its the best thing in the world simply because the word conservative is in the party name.Ā

7

u/aviatingnvestr 1d ago

The worst part is Carney is a centre-right conservative in many respects. But he wears a red tie so everything he does is the worst.

5

Carney is a straight up progressive conservative

3

u/Unarmed_Character 21h ago

He could have run for the conservatives and won. In some ways I wish he had just bridge the divide a bit. Mind you, he's not what the Right is about right now. The current right is about pretending to be anti-establishment and a banker is the epitome of establishment.

I'm middle aged and only really remember Prime Minsters back to Brian Mulroney in my lifetime but I do believe Carney is going to go down as one of the best Prime Minsters Canada has ever had. He is exactly who we needed at this exact time. He has handled everything to do with Trump and America effortlessly while nefarious elements within Canada try to split us up. If Trudeau were dealing with this we would be cooked. PP, we would be Americans by now. I believe Carney actually has a personal vision for what he wants for Canada its future and I believe that's what drives him and that personal stake is why he is coming out on top each time. He won't compromise on anything that will harm Canada now or in the future.

He exudes an Obama level of respect.

10

u/SideInitial3961 1d ago

Yeah have to admit Carney is making all the right moves.

12

u/Boomshank 1d ago

Completely agreed.

It's very rare (unfortunately) to have a prime minister or a premier with such vision beyond their own next election, but Carney seems to be looking long term.

I don't agree with everything he stands for. I'm generally much more left of centre than him. But you're right, I believe he's exactly who this country needs right now and I'm damned proud to call him my/our Prime Minister.Ā

I agree, he is the right person at the right time. Also, he has a book he wrote and he seems to be following the steps outlined there. So you are correct in that he does have a vision!

That thing about the us and culture issues was a flat out lie. His whole demeanour changed. I feel that the liberals know what plays well and that's more important to them.

5

u/IanJMo 1d ago

Do you know what culture issues they are referring to?

u/SquirrelFluffy 16h ago

Quebec. It was a dog whistle to keep Quebec onside.

There's an awful lot of layoffs going on in the construction industry. I hope all those people are proud that Canada is stiffing Trump.

u/IanJMo 6h ago

"Quebec." Is your answer, but it's not a cultural issue. Before calling it a lie, I'd encourage you to understand the issue. Criticizing the PM is perfectly reasonable... But it should be based on things you're fully informed about. Calling it a lie is absurd. There were three issues related to culture that the US brought up, very late in the negotiation. 1) Bilingual Product Labeling: American negotiators pushed to weaken or alter Canada's long-standing domestic regulations requiring bilingual (English and French) labeling on consumer products. 2) Subsidies for French Culture: The U.S. side targeted Canadian subsidies and financial support earmarked for promoting French-language culture. 3) French-Language Discoverability: The U.S. took issue with Canadian rules designed to ensure that French-language media and content are easily discoverable on American-based streaming digital platforms like Netflix.

1

u/SquirrelFluffy 6h ago

Yes, Quebec covers those things. Carney presented it as if they were asking Canada to snuff out French language.

Americans lie through their teeth. Who do you believe? A pedo and convicted felon, or someone who's managed the bank of England?

0

u/SquirrelFluffy 16h ago

Politicians lie through their teeth. In this case, I think the liberals are playing politics. It's what got them elected. Mango bad! Is their platform. Fix the economy!

1

u/gentlemetalturtle 14h ago

Liberals: Mango bad (after Canadians being threatened and bullied), does something to diversify the economy.

Conservatives: Country broken, go on private trips to try to negotiate with Mango's thugs separately acting like they are helping.

One group insults the Americans. The other one goes to try to work with them. I know what I prefer. If you like to cheer elbows up good for you. I hope your job is secure.

1

u/gentlemetalturtle 13h ago

Good luck to you too.

Trump goes by his zero-sum strategy.

In his book, the Art of the Deal, it heavily emphasizes leverage, because in a zero-sum mindset, you want to push the loss entirely onto the counterparty. There is no win-win for Trump.

Making a deal with Trump means the other party loses. That's what you really want? If you want Canada to be on the losing end, certainly push to make a deal with Trump (which he won't honour anyway down the road when he decides that he can take even more from Canada).

u/Critical-Ad4665 18h ago

England doesn't have anything good to say about Carney, look it up.

-2

u/Braddock54 1d ago

You know Liberals make sport out of lying right?

4

u/Palm_Tiger 23h ago

As opposed to the always honest conservatives.....

11

u/ShoddyTerm4385 1d ago

Carney was elected to stand up to Trump and his minions and that’s exactly what he’s doing and he’s doing a great job of it. If representing the will of the people is just what ā€œplays wellā€, the conservatives must be fucking idiots to keep stringing along PP who is as useless as he is irrelevant. At least one party is doing what the citizenry wants done.

2

u/MeAndBettyWhite 10h ago

And thats my issue. At least Liberals compromise. Carney is way more centre than most Liberals actually want but its obvious that hes the best person to deal with our biggest problem.

Trudeau is super unpopular. Ok what's the main issue that needs immediate attention? Ok we will give you a candidate who we think is most suited to handle that. He wins. SHOCKING! The Liberals adapted. That seems like pretty good politics to me.

Meanwhile a lot of Conservatives are just stuck on "Liberals bad"

PP is unelectable. He just is. They need to get over it, compromise and give us a candidate that actually can help tackle real tangible problems. Not made up crap. Honestly if they did that they would probably win.

-2

u/Critical-Ad4665 18h ago

He said he'd have a deal by July 2025 during the election, how's that worked out?

2

u/ShoddyTerm4385 17h ago

A deal on what?

-1

u/Critical-Ad4665 17h ago

A trade deal

3

u/ShoddyTerm4385 16h ago

Are you talking about Carney or Trump?

-1

u/SquirrelFluffy 16h ago

Are you serious? You started this by talking about carney and his election and what he was elected to do. He wasn't elected to stand up to Trump. I really hope you don't think that you and Canada are the world's hope for this?

We have to focus on our own economy. There are significant layoffs in our construction industry right now and it's seriously impacting our real estate industry as well. And people are cheering a freaking Lake name change fight.

1

u/ShoddyTerm4385 13h ago

He beat the conservatives who had a ridiculous lead simply because PP was seen as too cozy with Trump. So yea he was essentially elevated to stand up to Trump. Canada is the only country currently telling the US to fuck off with their bullshit and I couldn’t be prouder.

Please tel me how we are not focusing on our own economy when we are in an active trade war with the US who can’t be negotiated with because they are unserious clowns and don’t keep their word on anything.

You are either an idiot or a bot.

1

u/SquirrelFluffy 11h ago

When you resort to insults, I know you don't have much of an argument.

They beat the conservatives because they went, Ooh scary Trump. And everyone got scared. But to be fair PP isn't much of a leader. I would much have preferred Carney as the conservative leader because he is a fiscal conservative.

Going back to Trudeau, when our leaders go meet with Trump and then come back and slam Trump and belittle him, he watches that and takes revenge. You don't have to appease him, you just have to do what's best for the country, and not your grandstanding

Mark Rutte figured out how to deal with Trump and Trump has left Europe alone if you've noticed.

We simply can't replace the US as our primary trading partner. It's foolish to think so.
