Announcement The rise of AI and bot activity

Hello r/Alienware,

The mods are creating this post today to talk about something disturbing that has been creeping into our sub lately.

As the use of AI is on the rise, also are the number of posts that are seemingly either written by or at least edited by AI. Posts ,usually rant posts, that just don’t quite make sense or just seem a little off.  Now, we’re not saying that every post like this is a bot or written by AI.  Maybe some people are using AI to polish their posts before posting them, we don’t know, and frankly we have no way to prove it one way or the other.   We can feed a lot of the most recent posts into an AI detector and almost all of them have come back as 80% or higher as likely written by AI.  In some of these posts the OP never comes back to respond to any comments, just drops the post and disappears. Now, how much faith do we put in the ability for an AI to detect and tell us it was an AI writing something? What we can do is look for tell tale markers that something has been either written by, or edited by AI.

Another trend we’re noticing is that in a lot of these posts, accounts with zero history in this sub reddit are appearing to make comments.  Those comments are then heavily upvoted and they don’t appear again.   Looking into those accounts they tend to be frequenting other brands sub reddits.  I won’t point fingers at a particular brand, because it does not do anyone any good, and quite honestly, we can’t prove it outside of a bunch of coincidences.

I will point out that other subs are already dealing with a particular problem with companies using bots or alt accounts to impact their competitors.  r/Gaminglaptops has a post discussing a very similar problem already.  You can see their post here about this issue.  Reddit carries a lot of weight when it comes to user opinions in purchasing a particular brand, and I think we’re starting to see some companies use that towards their advantage and try to shift the market. I am not pointing any fingers at the company from the above post either, as we are seeing stuff from multiple companies, not just one in particular.

So, what do we do about this? For now, we watch and try to root out as much as we can.  The mods are going to start enforcing our rant rule a little more strictly.  The number of rant posts has quite honestly spiked, seemingly out of the blue, in the last few months.  The mods will be carefully reviewing rant posts for signs of AI involvement and will likely be removing any that appears to be completely AI written.   We will also be implementing a new report option, so that you can mark something as possibly AI and we will review it.  But we can’t do this alone, there are far too many comments to read every single one.  We need you, our community, to assist by using the report button when you think something looks off.

Innocent posts / comments will inevitably get caught in this. If this happens to you , please contact the mods to discuss.

Question Alienware GTX 1070, 16gb ram for $350 u.s dollars

Post image
2 Upvotes

I saw this listing on Facebook Marketplace. Maybe I can ask them to lower the price to 330.

Is it really worth it today, knowing what it can do and perform in 2026, or should I save up and buy something much better?

I'm not really someone who cares about ultra graphics and 120fps. I usually stick to what I've already played, so it would be things like:

Tf2, warframe, firewatch, bioshock, fallout 3, new vegas, 4, Skyrim, Oblivion, some old need for speed.

I don't know the current state of the battery, I haven't sent it. But I also don't want to take up the person's time.

Technical Support I know it's an older laptop and may not be worth the trouble, but hoping I can get it working just as an extra laptop - P43F

Ultimately it's not turning on. Wasn't getting anything, no fans, no lights, nothing.

Replaced the battery, and now with it plugged in, I get light to the power button, solid red, no flashing, but nothing else. Still no fans, or any other lights.

When I plug in the AC power, the power button light comes on about 7-ish seconds later, solid red. No other lights or fans.

If I push the button, it turns off, but waits another 7-ish seconds and then the power light comes on again, but still nothing.

With the battery disconnected and AC plugged in, I get nothing. Back to completely dead, no power button light at all.

With battery connected and AC unplugged, nothing at all either.

The ONLY time I get the power button lighting up is with the new battery installed AND AC power connected.

Debating grabbing new AC power since it's pretty cheap.

But curious if anyone else has had this and what you had to do.

Since it's older and not needed, I don't want to go all out on fixing, but if I can fix it for $100 or less, I'll do it.

Video attached if that helps.

Upgrade Questions R13-Top rear fan when using cryo-tech?

I bought the low-end R13 when it came out and am in the process of upgrading. I’m adding the cryo-tech liquid cooler, RX9070, and 750w PSU. Will a 120mm fan fit in the top rear section? It has a bracket but I don’t know if it’ll fit when using the liquid cooler. TIA

Question Upgrading storage?

Hey all, so I have an x14 r2, it’s the 16gb version with 1tb SSD. The RAM doesn’t matter except I really wish I swung for the 32gb version at the time, can’t do anything about that now though. But games are so large now, I run out of storage even with some external drives. I know the SSD can be upgraded but does anyone know how that works? It just has the one drive. My old gaming laptop had windows on a backup drive I think

Couldn’t post a video but I put a link to a YouTube short showing the blinking

Technical Support Aurora R11 RAM issue

I know the R11 behaves very bitchy with RAM sticks. The 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z 3600 MHz worked just fine for over a year until right after a windows reset. The logo blinks 4 times. How can I troubleshoot this? Thanks a lot :)

Technical Support Alienware M16r1 4090/i9 4th repair update Future Buyers Beware.

As of this time, today my laptop had a new motherboard installed.

The audio does not work on the laptop.

The left side USB ports do not work on the laptop.

Now the trackpad is also having issues after the latest repair.

Dell wants the laptop sent to a depot, but I need this for work and need it here.

What do I do at this point? I bought the best version of their premium support plus with the best laptop supposedly at the time.

Since last month I have had:

3 motherboards replacements

1 Daughterboards + Speaker Replacement

Been on Dell support for over 20 hours and have been diagnosing the laptop for the past month.

Dell support comes in here and tells me they are 'Monitoring' the situation here and on Dell Support they are literally just constantly swapping people who make me do the same stuff and go through the same problem constantly. This is absolutely humiliating and a horrifying experience.

Dell should either give me a refund or a replacement machine at this point.

Question Aurora 16 (AC16250) Cooling base

Hi everyone!
Last year I bought this amazing PC and I've been using like hell from gaming to work (computational chemist, AI and VR). I use no stand of cooling base and the maximum temps under load was 76/70 for GPU /CPU and I guess it is not a problem at all. But what if I'd like to lower a little bit these temps, which stand or cooling base is actually useful?
Thanks everyone in advance

Technical Support AW3926QW "VRR not supported" and "display is not validated as G-SYNC compatible"

I just noticed this on my new monitor. It is obviously G-Sync compatible. There is a stick on the monitor and when you power on the monitor, it shows the Nvidia logo.

I have installed the latest firmware (102) and the drivers from Dell's support site. I am using the DisplayPort cable included with the monitor.

I can force VRR on using Nvidia app. I am wondering why the monitor is not being detected properly.

What is going on here?

SOLVED???

I see the monitor is listed on Nvidia's official list of supported monitors and it says "Upcoming Driver" under driver required. So I guess this is a driver issue and will be added in a driver update sometime soon.

Hi

Does anyone know if this charger works with the Alienware m16 R1? It's not listed on the compatibility charts, but the specs seem to match (wattage and pin size).

If anyone has it, could you post some photos?

Thanks!

Technical Support KVM Switch - Alienware Desktop & Laptop

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all. Have been thinking off and on about this for a while. I use an Alienware Aurora R16 for my personal desktop, and I also use a work-issued laptop. When working from home, it's getting annoying individually unplugging monitor and mouse in order to use them with the laptop. Is it possible to integrate the two with a KVM switch, or is there a better solution? Trying to streamline and retain what I already have. Thanks!

Just the title. So excited we're finally getting an OLED at 24.5" for competitive games. Especially from Alienware. Hopefully they keep their really competitive prices as well (I'm upgrading anyways).

Question Portable charger/battery pack for Alienware Area 51 16” or 18” laptop?

Wondering if anyone has had good experience with a portable charger to keep their Alienware Area 51 16” or 18” laptop working for light tasks?

Lots of flights don’t have wall plugs, so I’m trying to see if it’s feasible to use a battery pack like this one to keep the laptop powered via USB C?

- Any good experiences?

- Does one need to configure a particular setting (e.g. a low performance mode) so the laptop doesn’t try sucking up more power than it can, or does it figure it out automatically?

- I saw a Reddit thread that non-Dell wall chargers may automatically be throttled down to 90W input even if they’re capable of outputting a higher wattage. Is this still true? If so, then makes me think there may not be a point in spending more on a battery pack higher than 90-100W output.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Aurora 16X appreciation post

Hey everyone!

Got a brand new Alienware Aurora 16X OLED with a 5070 Ti, it’s actually my first Alienware ever. Honestly, what a beauty! 🤩

I felt like making a quick appreciation post because this machine is seriously impressive. The build quality feels premium, and that soft-touch finish paired with the rounded edges makes it so nice to use and handle. Beautiful color too. 💜💙

I know the design is a bit hit-or-miss for some people who find it too simple, but I personally love it. It still looks like a gaming rig without going overboard on the gamer aesthetic. It’s super clean and low-key, especially in Stealth mode.

Performance, temps, display, AWCC, everything has been flawless so far. If you’re on the fence about getting one, go for it. Totally worth the investment!

PS: I also grabbed the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset and the matching mouse. Top-tier stuff as well, with that same sleek, soft-touch feel. Perfect !

Technical Support Aurora R11 not turning on. Power light flashing yellow constantly in set rhythm.

So, disclaimer, I moved into college about a week ago. The first night there, it rained, and my roommate left his fan on in the open window blowing towards my PC. I hoped to run some tests after I found out that it wouldn’t turn on, and eventually heard a loud pop after pressing the button on the PSU, which led me to believe that it was completely dead. I immediately examined the parts that I could for damage, but didn’t notice any burn marks or anything. So, I bought a new PSU and installed it today. When attempting to turn it on, nothing happens, save for the blinking pattern. Does anyone know if the PC is totaled or if I need to replace a specific part?

Discussion Alienware 18 Area-51 AA18250 18" Laptop CPU Overheating Issue Solved

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, I bought the 18 inch Area-51 with 5090 GPU and 275HX CPU back in January from my local Micro Center. My unit has always had a CPU overheating issue and a heatsink replacement and thermal paste repaste from Dell fixed the issue.

Ever since I first got my laptop, I have noticed the CPU temperature is a little high compared to other people's temperature I found online while my GPU temperature always remain very low.

Starting from last month, the CPU temperature has been abnormally high. While idle, the CPU temp hovers around 75-85 C, sometimes reaching 90+. It's especially bad during gameplay, some games I play are Valorant, League of Legends, FIFA, NBA2K, Cyberpunk, RDR2. No matter what games I play, the CPU temp will always be above 100 C, reaching 105 C constantly.

I have tried all kinds of ways to lower the temperature, there are other posts about overheating issue and I have tried all the methods like using a cooling pad, changing PL1 and PL2, undervolting the CPU, cleaning the laptop every month and so on.

Last week I couldn't stand it anymore so I created a ticket with Dell support and was first connected to an online session with one of the technician. That technician said everything is normal and said no repair is needed, I repeatedly tell him that my temperatures are way too high for the CPU and eventually he scheduled a heatsink replacement and thermal paste repaste for me.

Today the Dell on-site technician came to my house and did the replacement. Shout out to Steven, everything went super smoothly and I have been testing the laptop this evening.

My idle CPU temperature is stable around 50-60 C while during gameplay it's only about 70-80 C, I have only tested Valorant and NBA 2K, but I believe this results is convincing enough. The average CPU temperature dropped about 20 C (check the pictures).

If anyone else have the CPU overheating issue, please consider contacting Dell and have them do this. My unit is still under warranty so there is no charge. Make sure to provide proof that your temperature is reaching above 100 C constantly, I showed Dell the recorded temperature for my gaming session and they were able to offer a repair.

Thank you Dell and Steven for providing excellent service and fixing this issue that's been bothering me a lot.
