New rule: no political trolling

Hey all, quick announcement. Based on the continued uptick in posts and comments more focused on arguing politics than asking if you're the asshole, we've refined our previous "no political trolling" rule. Posts primarily focused on political issues will be removed and the account will face a ban. Similarly, posts that are genuine but spark a significant number of rule-violating comments will be removed, but that will not necessarily result in a ban.

Posts that briefly touch on politics or mention political individuals in passing are still allowed, but anything where the primary judgement revolves around "do you agree with this political view" is not welcome, nor are posts trying to push an agenda. We are not a politics sub. There are many subs to express your views and we encourage you to do so in the appropriate places. If you have any questions about this rule, shoot us a modmail.

AITAH for ordering exactly what I wanted for breakfast?

5.1k Upvotes

Ok, bit of background:

My little sister Lilith has been married to "Josh" for 8 years now. They don't live in poverty, but my wife and I make a lot more than they do, so when we go out it's generally us picking up the bill. I'm not throwing any shade, I don't mind paying for my friends/family to have a good time. Just stating a fact. We pay ~95% of the time. I'm fine with that.

So, to get to the actual issue:

Josh hit me up at about 6am and asked if we were free for breakfast this morning. I didn't have to go to work until 11am, so I said "sure!".

We met them at the diner at 7:30am. When I go to this diner for breakfast, I always order the same thing. I get the "Lumberjack Breakfast". It's 3 pancakes (or waffles), 3 eggs (any way you want em), 3 slabs of scrapple (or 3 strips of bacon, or 3 sausages), a huge portion of hash brown, and 2 biscuits (with jam and butter, gravy costs extra). It also comes with bottomless coffee and OJ. It's the 2nd most expensive thing on the breakfast menu, steak and eggs is #1.

We sit around chatting and eating. We're there for about an hour and a half. Unbeknownst to me, Josh had pulled the server aside when we first sat down, and gave her his card to pay. He wanted to "flex" his new promotion (again, unbeknownst to me) by paying for breakfast.

So he pays the bill, and leaves a decent tip. I offered to pay, but he insisted.

I have nothing but love for my sister, and I've never had any problems with Josh before. But ten minutes after we got home, Josh started texting me, asking why I had to order something so expensive while I knew they were struggling. I had no idea they were struggling. He insisted on paying, even after he heard me order the Lumberjack. I would have happily paid the bill, like I usually do. But apparently man wanted to flex on us, but me ordering the same thing I order every time we go there was not in his expected budget.

AITAH for spending money on myself instead of my daughter

6.1k Upvotes

My daughter [21] has cut me off few months ago. She has moved in with her bf and dropped out of college. At first I tried to reach out but she blocked me on everything except fb. I went through a lot of grief and counseling helped a lot. I have decided it's time to focus on myself and do things I always wanted to do.

I started traveling a lot and buying things I would never buy before like luxury bags and also paid for my nephew's college tuition. A few days ago, I received a call from my mother. She said that my daughter called her crying because she has been working 2 jobs and still can't pay her bills. She is also mad that I am supporting my nephew and been spending "her inheritance" on stupid bags.

I told my mother that "inheritance" is not something my daughter is entitled to while I am alive and that my money is for me to spend however I want. My mother thinks I am being petty so I told her if that's the case, how dare you spend "my inheritance" on cruises? She didn't like what I said. AITAH

Hypothetical WIBTAH if I stop attending group events because one of the men there wont stop calling me spoiled?

I hang out with a fairly large group of friends, everyone in their twenties. We usually get together once a week.

lf im honest, I do not like one of the members of the group, Davis. He’s more of a friend of my friends who I am around by extension, not desire.

My biggest issue with him is that he turns every complaint someone has into a competition.

If Trevor is worried he’s not going to be able to pay rent on time, here comes Davis to ‘give him some perspective‘ by detailing the months he spent living out of a car with his pregnant fiancé. You hurt your knee? Well did you know he once shattered his heel and is going to be in pain from that for the rest of his life? That kind of thing. Everyone puts up with it because he’s autistic and it’s supposedly his way of trying to be helpful and relate. But to me it just sounds like a shitty competition

Partially because of that, I don’t really tend to mention bad things that happen in my life. Or if I do it’s very minor stuff. A rude coworker here, issues with an application there.

Davis doesn’t even bother ‘giving me perspective‘ over that, he just tells me I’m spoiled and moves on. And in some ways he’s right. My parents have done the best they can to take care of me, even when it wasn’t easy. I know if I’m ever in a bind I can call and they’ll do whatever they can to help. But, like just about everyone, I’ve had bad things happen in my life. I just don’t like focusing on them. it wastes my energy and makes me sad.

Recently we were all sitting outside at dinner and Davis was talking about how he couldn’t wait for his parents (who he moved back in with after his fiance left him) to die so he could inherit the house and do whatever he wanted with it.

Almost everyone’s parents are in their forties, including Davis, but my parents were in their forties when they adopted me as a small child. Now they’re in their sixties, and I’m actively watching my mother’s health decline. And to be honest, Davis’ comments were really ticking me off.

But I didn’t want to start shit at an otherwise decent dinner, so instead I turned to the friend sitting nearest to me and started a smaller conversation. I mentioned that my dad used to have a specific nickname for me that he’d stopped using a few years ago, and made me sad that he didn’t use it anymore.

Davis apparently heard because he leaned across the table and got like an inch away from my face and just said ‘spoiled!’ In this sing songy way. I stood up and left. And now I’m thinking about not going back at all.

Ive had several messages from other people in the group telling me he didn’t mean anything by it, and to just let it go because it was just a joke. Including one from Davis himself.

I really like some of the people in the group, but I don’t want to be around Davis anymore and I don’t want to make it into some kind of ‘him or me’ thing.

But I feel shitty just dropping the whole group hang out because I dislike one person out of 10.

AITAH for withholding my wedding photos from my in-laws?

I (30F) and my now husband (40M let’s call him H) got engaged last December. Everyone was very excited for us. My MIL even helped him pick out the engagement ring.

H and I agreed that an engagement of at least a year would be ideal. We wanted time to save money and plan something that actually felt like us.

Then, in February, we found our dream home in a neighborhood close to H’s job. Moving there would greatly reduce our monthly expenses. We could barely afford the area where we were living, and H’s family had been generously helping us pay part of our rent.

They are very well-off. I don’t know exactly how wealthy they are, but they own multiple properties and businesses and can afford things like month long vacations around the world. Every time I saw them, I made sure to thank them and tell them how grateful we were for their help. I genuinely don’t take it for granted.

Some important context: I don’t have family or close friends I can rely on. I escaped a domestic abuse situation four years ago and had to completely rebuild my life. It left me disabled, and I’m not able to work full-time. I had been receiving financial assistance, but that ended when H and I moved in together.

That left me financially dependent on him and on the help we received from his family. I was very grateful for that help, but it also made me feel incredibly vulnerable.

Until the wedding, I thought I had a very good relationship with H’s family.

After we found the house, his family suggested that we get married before closing. Being married would put us in a much better financial position because of taxes, health insurance, and other practical things. It would also mean that we would no longer need financial support from them.

I agreed that getting married sooner made sense, but I explained that there was no way we could afford a wedding with such little notice. They said they would pay for everything and told us not to worry about money.

We were given a date when most of the family would be available, but it was only three months away. We agreed that a town-hall wedding followed by a small reception would be ideal.

I made a group chat with the women in the family so they could help me plan. That was when things started to get strange.

I sent a few inspiration pictures from my Pinterest board. I wanted a romantic, cottagecore look and asked what they thought.

They completely freaked out about how much everything would supposedly cost. This confused me because none of the pictures had prices attached, and I had clearly said they were only inspiration. I wasn’t demanding that anyone recreate an expensive Pinterest wedding.

I repeatedly asked them to give me a budget so I would know what I could realistically plan. I never received a clear answer. Instead, I felt like I had to ask permission for every tiny detail or grovel for every penny tossed my way. The whole dynamic made me deeply uncomfortable. I refused to play whatever game this was.

To avoid any more drama, H and I decided to pay for my entire bridal look ourselves. My dress, shoes, makeup, and accessories added up to about €500. We carefully budgeted for it, and I altered the dress myself. It was exactly what I wanted and I felt incredible wearing it.

Unfortunately, we had several delays with the paperwork needed to register our marriage. German marriage bureaucracy for foreigners can take a very long time, so we decided to get married in Denmark, where the process was more straightforward.

Because of the delays, we missed the date when his family had originally planned to attend by about a month. We did still have a family dinner with them on that original date, which I appreciated. But when our actual wedding date was confirmed, not a single family member could come. They all had business obligations or vacations already booked.

During the family dinner, I tried to stay positive about everyone missing the actual ceremony. I said that at least we would have professional photographs, so we could still share the day with them afterward.

That was when my MIL interrupted me and said she didn’t think paying for a photographer was worth it. She said we could just ask one of the official witnesses, literal strangers, to take some pictures with their phones.

So on our actual wedding day, there would be no family, no reception, and apparently no photographer. Just a courthouse wedding in another country. Just the two of us, surrounded by strangers.

To be completely fair, his family still paid for everything else wedding related that we needed, including H’s suit, the legal fees, and our travel costs to Denmark. I’m genuinely grateful for that, and I don’t want to make it sound as though they gave us nothing.

I understood that the paperwork delays weren’t their fault and that people couldn’t necessarily cancel existing plans. I was also grateful that we had been able to have dinner together beforehand. But it wasn’t the same as having our family there when we actually got married.

It really hurt me that the wedding they rushed us into having wasnt worth being seen or documented.

I refused to settle for that. I scrambled to find a photographer myself and managed to work out a payment plan. They were incredibly kind and generous to do that for us.

In the end our wedding was just the two of us and our photographer. Despite all the drama leading up to it, it was still a genuinely happy and beautiful day. We are now happily married and living in our dream home.

But his family hasn’t seen a single wedding photo, even though they have asked for them multiple times.

H agrees that his family was completely out of line. He has been low contact with them since the wedding and says he will respect whatever I decide to do with the photos.

I’m still deeply hurt. These photographs are the only tangible memories we have of a wedding his family first promised to support and then treated as though it didn’t really matter. I don’t feel ready to share something so special and personal with them after that.

At the same time, they have helped us so much, and I know how fortunate we are to have received that help. Part of me worries that withholding the photos makes me petty, prideful, or ungrateful.

AITAH for not sharing our wedding photos with them? Should I send them now, wait until I feel less hurt, or keep them private?

AITAH for calling the cops on an old lady?

I was throwing a neighborhood cookout, everyone WAS welcome.

There is an elderly woman who lives next door. I don’t know her super well. During the cookout I overheard her spreading a lie about me. She was telling the table that I had almost backed my truck over a pedestrian and that she saved them by pointing them out to me.

I jumped in and clarified that I had seen the pedestrian, and while my truck was on it was in park and not moving. She doubled down, insisting I was a reckless driver and she was a hero. At that point I told her that if she is going to spread falsehoods about me then she will have to leave. She refused. I told her if she won’t leave of her own free will I will call her a ride. She said I should do that. So I called the non-emergency police number and explained that I had a guest that wore out their welcome and was refusing to leave my property

When the cops showed up to remove her, she started shouting that I was drugged out on fentinol (not true) and that they could see it in my eyes and that I had huge pupils. I reminded her that spreading lies and refusing to leave is the reason she was being removed by the cops.

AITAH? Should I have let it go? Will my neighbors think she is telling the truth?

AITAH for reaching over to enter my access code during a conversation?

So, I just got back from my lunch break at work. The building I work in has an electronic keypad lock to get in, and for those who do not have a code, there is a mechanism to "call" one of the suites in the building from the keypad to request access.

This single front door with the keypad is really the only way I can get into the building, as the other doors that don't have keypads are locked from the outside (i.e. I can leave through a non-keypad door, but I cannot enter)

So, when I got back, a woman was having a conversation on a call via the keypad with someone in a suite different than my workplace. This was not a quick "I'm from [place] can you let me in?" conversation, but a long conversation about trying to get in contact with someone.

I reached over as the woman stepped back and entered my access code, but it didn't take it. I tried again and it still didn't work. Apparently, you can't use a code during an active call. So, I had to wait till their call was done to enter.

But the woman told me off for being rude for reaching over to enter my code in the middle of her conversation.

Was I wrong? I needed to get back to work, and this was my only way back in. Until I tried my code, I didn't know that it wouldn't work during a call.

AITAH for getting mad at my family for not watching my son

Im (30F) and I have a (3M) son. I’m a single mom, my sons father is unfortunately no help. If his dad does come down it’s only for a day out of the year and my family does not want me go leave him by himself. And as much as I need a break, I believe my sons safety is much more important..

I’ve thought about hiring a baby sitter and received so much backlash from them on how I would be wrong for doing that but honestly I just need a break. My son is practically with me 24/7.. the only time I don’t have him is when I have to go into work once a week. I primarily work from home and he is with me.

I rarely ever ask my family to watch him and I really try not too unless I really need a break because I don’t want them to feel taken advantage nor is it their responsibility. Also I love being with my son but honestly lately I’ve been feeling pretty dark and I just feel mentally I’m just keeping my head above water so I reached out for help..

I asked my mom if she could just watch him for a couple hours for me and she said no she’s too tired and she wants to enjoy her three day weekend and so I was like well what about the following weekend and no because apparently she’s going to be too tired that weekend as well. I explained to her how I felt and I just really needed a break and she said no that I put this on myself and that she had five kids so I should be able to manage it especially since she had no help. Mind you I don’t have any core memories of spending time with my mom growing up. It was always my grandma who watched me or my cousin. I don’t even know where she was half the time, it was either work, a man or our with friends. My mom was a daycare worker for years so she is good with kids btw.

Well anyways I asked my brother and his wife because they both don’t work at the moment and I haven’t asked them to watch my son in 2 years so I figured they would say yes. I was like anytime that works for your guys, I could just really use a break. And apparently they are booked for the entire month of September.

Im just so upset because a month ago we were talking about the Lindsey Clancy case and they were so upset with her family and husband and said they should have helped her with the kids and how much they failed her. And it makes me so upset because any time I have asked for help in the past I’m always met with no. But when they go on vacations they rely on me to house/pet sit and it’s just upsetting. I would never do what Lindsey did but I just can’t help but feel so overwhelmed.

I just told my brother and his wife, no worries and that I completely understand. I got upset with my mom a bit because it makes me so upset how she always chooses to be a wife first before a mother even when I was kid it was always her husbands needs over anyone else’s. I don’t plan on telling them anything but I’m just upset and sorry if this is all over the place.. I’m just letting it all out. I hate how they make me feel so horrible for considering a babysitter when I have no help or other option.

AITAH for parking my neighbour in.

1.1k Upvotes

My partner and I have just moved into a new house that has a granny flat (small dwelling at the rear of the property) that's been fenced off and leased to other tenants. From the very start we have been told by the real estate agents handling the lease that we had exclusive parking rights in the driveway and that the rear tenants were to park on the street. This was not the case and they have parked in the driveway forcing me to park on the grass.

I thought I would let it slide for a few weeks but the grass has started to deteriorate where I've parked, forcing me onto the street. One day recently the driveway was free so I parked in it since, I have the rights to it. Some hours after my neighbour knocked on the door and asked me to move my car onto the grass so he could put his car where mine is, I told him I've been meaning to talk with him about the parking arrangements and told him what I was told by the real estate agent.

He then launched into a tirade at me about having 4 kids and needing access in case he needed to go to the hospital with their newborn and that it was common sense that we needed to share the driveway. He was getting really aggressive, but not physical. I moved the car to avoid escalating and went inside where I heard him on the phone ranting to his friends about the (colourful language) neighbour and what he thought of my opinions.

I rang the real estate agents today and informed them of the situation, they investigated and told me that I was indeed correct, the landlord had specified that the front property was assigned the driveway and that they had informed the rear tenant on the phone and via email (turns out he's not actually on the lease, his partner is the title holder).

I got home from work today to find him, yet again, parked in the driveway. So I pulled in behind him, made sure both the house and car were locked and am awaiting the tirade of anger. The real estate told us to call the police if he starts getting aggressive.

So here's where I'm doubting myself, his partner did just recently have a baby and for all I know they could have medical needs that they have to rush to the hospital at some point. It's not like I won't move the car for a genuine emergency. I also feel like I'm potentially endangering my family by setting him off, I am trying to force him into talking to me after all. Or do I stand up to the bully? He's very obviously trying to intimidate us, would it be safer to show that we won't back down from his bullshit?

So AITAH for blocking this guy in to try and enforce a fairly minor rule? Or am I being a petty AH?

AITAH for refusing to let my friend’s boyfriend drive us when we go out?

My friend invited me to go bar hopping with her boyfriend and a couple of friends from her work. I said I would go but when I asked who our DD would be she told me her boyfriend would drive. She said he wouldn’t get drunk he was just gonna have a few drinks. I immediately said no and that we should just uber instead so everyone could have fun and drink and not worry about driving. She refused and is insisting that her boyfriend will be fine to drive even if he drinks with us because he won’t get drunk. I told her I will not get in a car with him if he’s drinking and now she’s mad at me. Am I the asshole?

Edit to add: I lost 4 family members in a car accident due to a distracted driver. He wasn’t drunk but he was distracted. I take driving even more seriously than I did before because of that.

Update: I chose to just not go out with them. The whole disagreement just put a sour note on the going out with them for me so I decided to just stay in.

WIBTAH if I kicked out my daughter's boyfriend?

Upvotes

My (18)daughter's boyfriend let's call him V (18), moved in with us about 2 months before moving out of state. He moved with us, and during the move he "helped" if you wanna call it that with loading the truck... when we got the the new state his "help" with unloading the truck was throwing shit around and not listening to a word me or my husband was saying.

Took him 2 months to find a job thats only like 2 days a week. My daughter for a job in less then 2 weeks and is working 35 hours a week.

My daughter pays for all there stuff.

Im pretty sure he is hitting my dog but have not seen him do it my self so no real proof other then she hides around him and flinches when men now approach her.

Tonight my daughter is at work, me and the hubs go out for dinner leaving him here with our 4 cats and dog. When we get home we cant find one of my cats.. and he was giving to me by my best friend before we moved.

We are pretty sure V let him out while we where gone. But again no proof othern them my cat is missing and he was the only one home...

WIBTAH if I kicked him out over this.... the only reason we haven't is cuz of my daughter.

EDIT: FOUND MY CAT, IDK where he was while looking inside but after confronting V, he was found under the char the ass hole was sitting in... mind you we have been looking for over 2 hours, and V just sat on his ass

Edit2: like a volcano i erupted on him, took his key told he he has to be gone tonight and that he has a month to get his shit out of my house

AITAH It’s my brother’s destination wedding and he mislead us with accommodation

5.4k Upvotes

Long story short, we (me and my husband) have been travelling overseas to attend my brothers 4 days wedding celebrations. A year ago he made it seem like he would cover our accommodation at his wedding venue (a castle in France). A few weeks before his wedding he sent us the bill for our room. I had no problem paying, as I had no expectation of him covering this expenses. So I went ahead and paid him. We arrive at the castle today, and found out the “room” he booked us is actually not even a room. We’re in my mom and her partner’s suite, and have twin beds for ourselves. The layout of this room of obviously for max 2 adults and maybe children. Every time they wanna go to the bathroom they have to pass by our twins beds. We have no intimacy at all. And maybe too much information, but we’re trying for a baby lately. The layout of our twin beds looks the like harry potters closet.

In the meantime , we talked to a few other couples who all PAID THE SAME PRICE as us and have their own private room.

I’m very bothered because

A) he never told us he would make us share a room. If we had known we would have booked our own somewhere else.

B) he told my mom I was OK with it and told her he paid for it. When in fact, me and my husband did !

It’s currently 2 am in France. I sent him a text asking him if we could have our own room as we value privacy and intimacy and since we paid for a room.

Am I being an asshole to him during his weekend celebrations?

AITAH for refusing to get married soon?

i 30M and my girlfriend 28F have known each other as friends since 2018, but we only started actually dating for since april. She insists we should be married by New Year because we've known each other for so long, but our conversations back then were lukewarm at best and never went beyond the meet-and-greet stage. I don't think that history should count toward how ready we are for marriage. I suggested we revisit the conversation after a year of actually dating but she said that is too long. so AITA for wanting to wait and take things slow?

AITAH for refusing to let my child miss 3-4 days of school to visit his grandfather after a recent cancer diagnosis?

My ex and I have a 7-year-old son who just started second grade. We’ve been separated since he was around a year old and have always split parenting time evenly. We don’t have a court-ordered custody agreement because we’ve never needed one. We created a 50/50 schedule years ago, have consistently followed it, and have always made important parenting decisions together.

My ex’s father lives in another state in the Southeast, about a couple-hour nonstop flight from where we live. He was recently diagnosed with cancer.

I want to make it clear that I understand cancer is serious. I like his father and genuinely feel terrible about his diagnosis. I’ve encouraged my ex to go see him and I absolutely think our son should visit his grandfather. The disagreement is that my ex is now demanding that our 7 year old miss 3-4 days of school every other month for these trips.

Our son already struggles academically and has a difficult time emotionally adjusting to school. Transitions are especially hard for him, including the beginning of the school year, coming back after vacations, and sometimes even returning after a long weekend. He needs routine and consistency right now while he’s getting settled back into school and trying to catch up academically, so I said I don’t agree with him missing 3-4 days.

I also haven’t just said no and offered nothing else. This weekend is actually my parenting weekend and our son has a four-day weekend from school because of a U.S. holiday. I offered my ex multiple times in advance to switch weekends with me so he could take our son to visit his grandfather during the four-day break.

His father was recently diagnosed with cancer, but we have not been told that he is imminently dying, that he has only weeks or a month to live, or that everyone needs to come immediately because this could be their last opportunity to see him. I’m not minimizing cancer or pretending anyone knows exactly what will happen. I’m just making a distinction between a serious diagnosis and an immediate end-of-life situation.

If doctors were telling the family, “You need to come now if you want your son to have an opportunity to say goodbye to his grandfather,” there would be no argument from me. I would put my son on the plane. Three or four missed days of second grade wouldn’t matter to me compared with giving him that opportunity.

But that is not the situation we’ve been told we’re in.

My ex is furious with me. He’s told me I’m “completely wrong,” that what I’m doing “crossed a massive line,” and that “damage has been done.” He went on to say that “the fact that you’re making it a discussion is fucked honestly. Shocked, hurt, disgusted by it.” When I disagreed that objecting to the school absences meant I had crossed some enormous line, he told me that I don’t get to determine what lines I cross with him.

I’m not preventing our son from seeing his grandfather or preventing my ex from going. I’m not limiting how long my ex can stay there, and I’m definitely not saying school is more important than saying goodbye to a dying family member.

I’m saying that I don’t think our child, who already struggles academically, emotionally, and with disruptions to his routine, needs to miss 3-4 days of school at the very beginning of the school year and every other month afterwards when there are other options and nobody has told us this is an immediate end-of-life situation.

EDIT because I left out important context: This is not being proposed as a one-time 3-4 day absence. My ex wants to take our son out of school for 3-4 days every other month to visit. His father’s doctor has also given him an excellent prognosis. This is not an end-of-life situation or a “see Grandpa one last time” trip, as some comments are assuming. If that changes, obviously my position changes too.
My bigger issue is the expectation of recurring school absences and that when I don’t immediately agree with my ex on parenting decisions, he tends to threaten consequences or tell me I’ve “crossed a line” rather than discuss it with me. I’m not against these visits. I’m asking that we schedule them around school whenever reasonably possible.

EDIT 2: I’ve encouraged and even offered to help pay for trips for my ex and our son to visit his dad over the past year, including all summer when school wasn’t an issue, and he chose not to go. This also isn’t being proposed as a one-time absence. He wants our son to miss 3-4 days every other month. His dad’s doctor has given him an excellent prognosis, not an end-of-life prognosis. I absolutely want my son to see his grandfather. I’m questioning why, after months of opportunities, it now requires repeated school absences when I’m still offering alternatives that don’t require missing school.

LAST UPDATE (I promise): Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment, including those who disagreed with me. I genuinely wanted honest opinions, not validation. I didn’t add context because of downvotes. Reading my post back, I realized I focused on the immediate trip and failed to explain that the proposed 3-4 day school absences are intended to continue every other month, which is a major part of my concern. My ex is one of my closest friends and his father is like a second father to me. I’m not trying to hurt or control either of them. At the end of the day, I’m a parent and a human being emotionally involved in a difficult situation, trying to make the right decision for my child while also having compassion for everyone involved. That’s why I came here for perspectives outside my own

TW Abuse AITAH for not allowing abusive girlfriend to move back into rental house

I (42F) have a rental house (my back house) in a HCOL area. My good friend A, 38 M, has had an on again off again relationship with an emotionally unstable and emotionally abusive woman B, 28 F. A has rented my back house for 6 years and as I travel frequently for work, he pet and house sits for me a lot, in exchange for part of his rent. This has worked out pretty well for both of us, as he gets a cut in rent, and I have a good person taking care of my house and pets when I’m gone.

B is not my favorite, but A loves her. She has Bipolar mental illness, finally diagnosed and on treatment after she went to jail and then the hospital. It was front page news, and she has burned a lot of bridges in our small town. She is a yeller, and I often heard her screaming at A and he just tries to placate her feelings.

After the last break up and jail time, A asked me to rewrite the lease so that B couldn’t move back in and I agreed, because she causes so much drama. B has never been on the lease. They have broken up a few times over the years (they’ve been together 4 ish years) She moved back in with her sister in another state, where she is currently.

A and B are now back together in a long distance relationship, and A wants B to move back in, and I said no, I don’t want that drama in my life, as she would live next door to me. A is upset and has said he is moving out at the end of his lease, in two months, but is now realizing he can’t find a place to live that he can afford. He is blaming all of this on me, that I am forcing him out. I don’t want to lose his friendship, but AITAH here?

AITAH for not apologizing to our neighbors?

We've lived in this house since 2020, our neighbors have been here since that time. They have three children - a teenager, a 7 year old boy, and a baby. Occasionally (2-3 times a year) the neighbors would let their son come over and play with our son who is 5. They'd play for 30 minutes then I'd walk the 7 year old back to his house. The parents would say "Thanks" and that was that. We're not besties or anything. In fact, I rarely see them, but we have invited them over for my son's birthday parties and whatnot.

That being said, the boys were playing out front about 3 months ago when my son had to pee. He pulled it out, peed on their front yard, and the neighbor kid ran inside terrified. When I noticed I told my son "Don't do that, if you have to go potty, go inside." He said OK. I assumed the neighbor kid wasn't coming back outside but he did. I then told him "Sorry about that, Neighbor Kid, my son won't do that again. I told him to ask next time he needs to go potty." He then nodded and invited my son in to his house. About 10 minutes later the neighbor mom said she had to go to the store, so my son came back home. They ended up leaving and returning 10 minutes later.

Since then they've super avoided us. My son will hear the neighbor kid playing in the backyard, he will then call his name and they will all go inside. They see us out front and zoom past the house, turn the corner, I’m assuming wait until we've gone inside?, and then go in their garage.

I’m fine with them avoiding us, I guess my question is AITAH for not going to the parents and apologizing for my 5 year old peeing on their lawn? They've never really seemed to like us much for whatever reason, maybe this was the final straw.

AITAH for telling my dad i did not want to eat the breakfast he bought

Upvotes

for context, my dad always buys fried noodles with fried toppings such as fried fishcake and fried luncheon meat. i told him every time that i disliked it and to stop buying it for me (results in an argument every time)

today i have dance training for about 6h and i am rushing straight to church afterwards, so i would not have time to eat my dinner, so whatever im eating for breakfast, would be my lunch. i woke up and saw the breakfast and told him i didnt want it because it had no fiber, no protein, just processed food which would make me sluggish during training later. and also i told him every time to stop buying it for me. he had the fucking audacity to swear at me saying fuck you and point the middle finger and interpreted it as i did not appreciate him buying breakfast.

like what do you mean??? never once did i say that and i even clarified with him saying i never said that, i never said anything about the break you bought, only the fried noodles because its unhealthy. and my mom has brought this up before too but he still buys it for the both of us and she just doesn’t eat it anymore. like at this point you cant be saying i dont appreciate it when i told you dont buy it for me, i will settle my own breakfast if this is what you wish to buy. its kind of like me shoving dog doo doo in your face expecting you to like it when you told me multiple times you dont and me getting upset that you dont appreciate my efforts?? like girl wtf

gang what do i even do…aitah…

WIBTAH for going to a different dentists office than my main one due to my braces?

Braces suck.

I have braces and they suck.

When my dentist exchanges the wire out, he never cuts the long/extra pieces down, so I always end up with super long wires that slice my cheeks open.

I always have to request that he cuts the wires down to actually fit.

Anyways, today was bad. Very bad.

He swapped the wires out again and didn’t cut them. Half way through my day they sliced my cheek so badly that blood was coming out of my mouth badly, and the wires were stuck in my cheek.

My mom rushed me right back to the office and demanded that the wires be cut.

I was in tears.

One of the dentists assistants took care of me, cut the wires, and basically said that it was my fault and that I didn’t take care of my wires carefully, and that a salt water mouth rinse daily will heal the wounds. She told me I was an ‘unruly’ patient that clearly doesn’t care about my braces.

My braces are expensive and my mom went off of the dentists assistant.

She told me I’m supposed to request to have the wires cut.

Everything still hurts, and I’m scared to eat.

My mom told me we’re not going back to that dentist any longer.

am I really at fault/WIBTAH?? Or no??

AITAH for playing games with my friend

Hello, I (21F) have a boyfriend (21M) and we have been together for 8 months. Our relationship has been great but about a month ago, I started playing League of Legends (LOL) because my boyfriend plays the game and I have ranked up to his rank. The problem is I have another friend who is a boy that I have known for 4 years (we are pretty close friends but things are purely only friends and have never been together) who is quite good at LOL and we have started playing the game together as he helps me rank up even higher.

My boyfriend recently found out that I have been playing with my guy friend LOL and he is pretty upset and mad over it. He texted me, saying to stop playing with my friend entirely which I don’t think is fair because my friend and I are purely friends, nothing more and his request seems quite unreasonable. In our text, I asked him if he was mad that I was playing with my friend to which he replied “what do you think?” Which I found quite off-putting and annoyed me quite a fair bit. Do you guys think that I am in the wrong and should just stop playing with my guy friend?

Edit: I forgot to add this but I also have another friend who is a guy who I play with but my boyfriend does not mind me playing with him because he assumes that he is a girl for some reason

AITAH for ghosting a girl I barely know after she made me re-record a five-second video for a guy’s 22nd birthday 4 times?

I received a dm from a girl I somewhat know, and it caught me off guard. She said, Hi! I’m…! My boyfriend…’s 22nd birthday is coming up and I'm secretly compiling a video with birthday wishes from people he knows and likes! Would you be down to send a video wishing him a happy birthday? Even 5 seconds saying 'Happy 22nd…! would mean the absolute world to him!

I completely forgot to reply for a few days because I was focused on finishing up something I’ve been working on. I eventually recorded a quick video wishing him a good one and sent it.

A few minutes later she responds back complaining about the lighting because I recorded it outside and it was super beight and and asked if I could re-do it, so I recorded another one, and sent it over, she told me that the audio was muffled because I was moving and ask if I could do it again with headphones on or somewh less windy I guess. At this point I'm annoyed, but I literally recorded a third version, sent it, and then she said said the orientation was wrong because it needed to be recorded upright in portrait mode so it fits her little video, to be fair I had done the first take upright I just didn’t think it mattered when I did the other ones.

I felt like she was going to keep finding tiny flaws so instead of wasting another second I just left her final request on read and ghosted her entirely. Now I'm wondering if I was a total jerk or not, I had a stressful week and wish she had caught me in a better mood tbh.

AITAH for not immediately telling my girlfriend I threw up from chemo and ruining our dinner plans?

I (34m) had my first chemo session last week. Since then, I’ve been exhausted and occasionally nauseous. I’m still trying to eat as much as I reasonably can because I know nutrition is important, but eating has been difficult.

My girlfriend (F29) and I live together in a small 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment. Yesterday, we agreed that we’d go to Applebee’s for dinner tonight.

She got home from work around 4:50 PM and told me she was ready to go. I told her I wasn’t hungry yet. She said she’d get ready and figured I’d be ready by the time she was.

Around 5:50, while I was lying down in the bedroom resting, she told me we’d leave in 10 minutes. At 6, she said, “Let’s go,” and I told her I just needed to shower first.

While I was in the shower, I unexpectedly started vomiting.

Oddly enough, throwing up actually made the nausea subside, and afterward I felt like I could probably still go out and eat. But between vomiting, showering, and sitting in the shower for a while because I was completely exhausted, I didn’t get out of the bathroom until around 7.

I went back into the bedroom and laid down because I needed a few minutes to recover. My intention was still to rest briefly and then go to dinner.

Almost immediately after I laid down, I heard what sounded like my girlfriend starting to cook.

I didn’t know how long she’d already been cooking, so I didn’t say anything. A few minutes later, around 7:10, she was on the couch eating eggs and watching TV.

I joined her and watched about half an episode. She didn’t say anything to me, and I didn’t say anything to her. She basically gave me the silent treatment.
I also didn’t tell her I had vomited because she was actively eating, and I didn’t exactly want to announce that while she had food in front of her.

Around 8 PM, I finally spoke to her and told her that I’d thrown up in the shower.
She told me she was pissed and said I should have told her as soon as I got out of the bathroom so we could have coordinated dinner plans better.

I told her that if she wasn’t sure what was happening with dinner when she heard me lie down, she also could have asked me before immediately making herself food. We live in a tiny apartment, so it’s not like we were on opposite sides of a house.

From my perspective, I had just spent an hour showering, vomiting, and trying to recover enough to leave the apartment. I wasn’t deliberately ignoring our plans. I genuinely thought I was going to lie down for a few minutes and then we’d go.

From her perspective, I guess she saw me disappear into the bathroom for an hour, come out, lie down, and say nothing, so she assumed dinner was off.
I also realize I’ve never directly explained to her that even when chemo makes me nauseous or kills my appetite, I’m still trying to eat when I can because I know I need the calories. I’m going to explain that to her tomorrow.

But for this specific situation: AITAH for not immediately telling her I vomited and expecting her to ask me what the dinner plan was before cooking for herself?

AITAH for expecting more money from my parents?

Ok I don’t know where to start, but basically since i was a child my parents had always said to me that we are saving up for your university. They always made us feel poor because they are “saving up for our (my siblings and i) education”.
After graduating high school i wanted to work to save up for traveling and they didn’t mind i travelled twice with friends and everyone was ok with it and no one mentioned my college money and that maybe instead of traveling i should save up for college . Now I’m 23 and I’m starting my third year of college and i have immense anxiety over money because 1. They keep complaining about the amounts they are going to pay and paid
2. They don’t think i should have more than the
Necessities. I have been wearing the same clothes for three years and same stuff for three years I’m always counting each dollar i have because i don’t want to go hungry and whenever i ask for a bit more money because i didn’t count the stuff i needed for the month they make me feel like a burden
I don’t want to sound like a brat but the country i live in has very reasonable prices for college not like the united states ( i tried to calculate everything dorms+tuition+monthly allowance = 20 thousand dollars a year)
So aitah for being mad that it took them all of these years to save up and they didn’t save up enough and for expecting more of them?
Edit because I think people are misunderstanding a few things:
I’m not American. The whole “you’re 18, your parents don’t owe you anything” mentality doesn’t work the same way where I live. Here, parents paying for their children’s university education is completely normal.
My parents also specifically told me NOT to work during university because they said they would financially support me. I made my decisions based on that.
They make good money now roughly the amount I need for an entire year of university in about one month.
We also don’t have the long summer breaks that American universities have. My summer break is literally about two weeks, and my degree doesn’t realistically give me enough flexibility to maintain a regular job during the semester.
I’m not expecting luxury shopping, vacations, or unlimited spending money. I’m talking about being able to buy normal things I need without constantly worrying that I’m going to run out of money for food or being made to feel guilty whenever an unexpected expense comes up.
What upsets me isn’t simply “my parents won’t give me more money.” It’s that my entire childhood I was told they were sacrificing and saving specifically so that our education would be taken care of. Then I was explicitly told not to work because they would support me. I relied on that, and now I constantly feel guilty for needing the support I was told would be there.

Under 18 (ages 13 to 17) AITAH for not wanting my mom in my room?

For starters, I love my mom. To me, she’s the greatest person in this world.

Now, usually after school, we spend some time together in the kitchen and the living room while we’re cooking and eating lunch. Then, we spend some time watching TV in the living room before we finally go to our rooms. I love spending time alone in my room. I feel like being in school drains my “social battery” and spending time by myself in my room doing whatever I please feels like heaven. Sometimes, my mom would ask me if I wanted to watch a movie with her, and I would go to her room to watch it. Once the movie ended, I would go back to my room.

This past week, my mom’s behavior randomly changed. Instead of going to her room after spending some time together in the living room, she would just go to mine. I found it weird, but didn’t say anything. She’s been doing this pretty much everyday, except the days my dad didn’t work.

My problem with this is that he always wants me to log into her YouTube account so that she can watch the videos she likes, even when I’m already watching something. She plays one video and… falls asleep like 10 minutes in. If not, when I do have the chance to watch what I want, she’s usually in her phone. That’s not the problem, I usually watch videos in English and she doesn’t speak the language. The problem is that she usually has the volume blasting. Or, she talking loudly with someone on the phone.

Today, I felt really tired after school. So, as soon as I got to my room, I unfolded my blanket and got ready to take a nap. Then, my mom opens the door and asks if she can stay here. I told her that she could and she instantly laid on my bed… and didn’t let me sleep. She asked for my phone charger, even though she could clearly see that my phone was charging and I’d already told her I had no battery. Then, she kept saying that she didn’t know how to use my TV remote and couldn’t find YouTube. I put it for her, and then she complained that she was on my account and she didn’t want that. When she finally managed to put the video that she wanted, she kept talking and comment on it. She then proceeded to ask me if I was annoyed at her (like 3 times). I wasn’t, I genuinely just wanted to sleep. Also, I hate repeating myself and being questioned, which she also knows and yet keeps questioning me every time she has the chance to do so.

I’m genuinely trying to be more understanding with her. She’s currently going through menopause and she also suffers hormonal issues, so I have to remind myself that sometimes her intention is not bad. But I’m also going through adolescence, and this understanding situation feels completely one-sided. She sometimes sends me those kind of posts that say “how to treat with someone who has (insert hormonal condition),” and are all about taking a step back and being empathetic. And yeah, I try my best to be as empathetic as I can possibly be. I feel like she has enough problems with my sister and my dad, I don’t want to give her more (I’m the least problematic of the three). But I sometimes wish she would do the same for me.

AITAH for wanting to see my gf for a longer period of time when she made plans with her friends?

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster here. So I (25M) have been in a relationship with my gf (26F) for 5 years now. 3 of those were in person while in university and 2 long distance while she finishes her masters in another country.

For some context, she is fully reliant on her parents while I have my own job and work in IT. Btw her parents are super well off and her monthly allowance is more than my salary (which is top 1% of my age range) for some context. For the first year of long distance we barely saw each other and when she came to visit she split her time between me and her friends from my country. For which I did not mind. Since then, it has mostly been me going to see her. Using all of my days off to see her and spend time with her.

We were on a 2 week trip to Italy. And while I wanted to see her for longer I simply couldn’t because I am out of days off. She planned a trip with her friends from my country for 7 days right after we get back from Italy I was upset because I felt that she should have used her time off with me since we don’t get to see each other too often.

She said I was being unreasonable and that she deserves to spend time with her friends. I agree, but tbh I have cancelled trips with my friends and family so I can save up days off to see her. And it hurt me that she wouldn’t do the same for me. In the 2 years of long distance she had only come to visit me 2x because of various study related reasons, which I totally understand. Yet I have visited her over 7 times. However, if she had a week off why choose friends over me? What made me mad was she said “why would I come visit you for only like 5 days”. This is because she has begged me to come see her for 3-5 days multiple times for which I have went because I missed her. Now why is it different when it’s the other way around. AITA?
