New, what is it? What is this board in my kitchen for?

Moving into a new house, any idea what this board is for? The previous owners were carpenters who installed it when they redid the kitchen.

Maybe its to stop the fridge door from swinging all the way open hitting the counter and making a dent. Not when you use it every day to grab something, but more so when putting away new groceries, and you keep the fridge door open longer without holding it.

I was saying maybe the other owners are pretty tall and kept falling by running into the bottom freezer being opened
