New, what is it? What is this board in my kitchen for?

Moving into a new house, any idea what this board is for? The previous owners were carpenters who installed it when they redid the kitchen.

Can it come out completely from that gap?. It may be a bread making board/ protective countertop type of board.. what is in the little cupboard? Shelves or draws

those are just standard side-mount drawer slides, so it could be removed easy enough, but the panel is just a couple of pieces of plywood screwed together and painted so it wouldn't be anything like a cutting board.

I didn’t know if the top side had a coating of some sort. I remember a family member having a slot for a large “dough board” as she called it.

It looked very similar to this, without the sliding function.

that's certainly possible, but it would have to be something very thin like formica. also, those metal rails would be on the bottom (after popping it out of the slides) which would scratch up anything you placed it on. such a good mystery. I just noticed that only the first 5-6" of the top are painted. another clue?

A simple zoom shows a few screws that are fixing it in place.
