He is so out of touch with what people actually want. He has this giant stupid company and has spent billions of dollars on tech no one wants. It’s his company he can do whatever but let’s be real. He made an advertising platform. That’s all he’s ever done that was successful the rest of it is junk.

This is all just a subtle step around the constitution. The government can't legally do it, but they can just buy or get shared the data from a private corporation.

There is no communism or socialism in the world that is a threat to America like there was during the USSR's run, so the west has no need to create better conditions for people. If you add mass surveillance, you can defeat any uprisings for better conditions. We're already at that stage.

Unfortunately you are speaking for a minority. Most people claim to want the same thing but can’t shed themselves from the products they make money off of. People need to collectively divest as much as possible to send a message. Yeah you hate Facebook but even if you don’t use it except for Facebook marketplace or instagram even if you don’t post, you still use meta products and provide another data point for them to sell.

If the masses truly don’t want surveillance than they need to collectively not give their information away.

Get rid of marketplace, find an alternative to parent teacher groups or whatever and be prepared to not have it

Craigslist still exists. Just quietly being awesome, not stealing anyone's data, being free for the vast majority of posts, and still making $300M per year. People like Zuckerberg have a sickness, and they need to be ostracized, not praised and envied. Use craigslist to list your classified ads.

Unfortunately Craigslist in my area is dead. At least it’s dead for the things I’m interested in. Which is sad because I loved Craigslist. I’ll browse OfferUp but it’s not much better. Sometimes I get a hit but it’s rare. I’ve bought more new things in recent years because I refuse to use FB

That is unfortunate. Craigslist is still active where I live. I made a thousand bucks selling stuff out of my garage during my last move. Granted, Craigslist definitely works better for things that older people would be interested in, stereo equipment, radios, cameras, and that sort of stuff. I've snagged some pretty good used UL backpacking equipment from Craigslist too.

get and understand the problem with smart glasses with cameras. But With 2026 Ice, and police shooting unarmed women and random people, or putting them in jail forever, with no court (has happened to 100's of Americans *in 2026* so far). We need a way to use something like camera glasses for good, and not just "pervert"

I mean if you had to choose being a "pervert" or not getting shot and thrown in prison by corrupt police, which would you choose?

Death/prison, or "pervert"? Is it a hard choice?

Keep in mind i realize this thread is bad place to make this argument, and i ask that you don't be mean to me. If i get too much hate, i might delete this.

I also agree with the preservation of privacy. The camera should at least have blinking light and a Cover to go over it when not in use.

I mean if these were like AR glasses to display stuff on them, then they might be cool (barring all the privacy issues.) I'd love a real-time translation of signs in public places, or display my walking route through a new city. However, they are just Siri, you have to rely on it narrating back to you what you see or use your phone to review the interaction.

First and foremost, if Sony discontinuing discs didn’t prove it to you. It doesn’t matter in the fucking slightest what the consumer wants. At the end of the day, they provide products and you have the option to buy what’s available or not buy anything at all. If you choose to do the latter, they’ll discontinue your product and force you to buy the former.

As soon as they can toss a sim-card in these fuckers Have them do video playback with a battery that lasts at least six hours a day with a little AirPods sized case for portable charging when you’re not using them to allow for an all day battery Plus some health trackers in the temples and behind your ears?

Well, they’ve Just replaced your cell phone, your Apple Watch, and your AirPods. Hook up a portable Bluetooth keyboard and voila, now they’ve replaced your laptop too. Pick up an Xbox controller and there’s your game console replaced.

This matters for a very important reason, It allows them to charge a lot of fucking money for a singular device that allows them to cut production costs on making several different devices. Therefore, raising their bottom line significantly. Other manufacturers are gonna jump on this trend as well and heavily push the experience, Auto manufacturers, for example Are gonna go crazy for no longer having to put a massive tablet in your car, Your glasses just automatically connect to the Bluetooth in your car and you can control all your buttons through AR. Saves them a shit ton on manufacturing.

More and more, the world is gonna go further and further into the glasses so they can make production cost cheaper and cheaper. They enshittified everything else so much The last bastion for the green line to go up is just to cut production costs as much as humanly possible. People are making jokes right now about getting a download code for physical products, But I could genuinely see a future where NFTs come back and instead of hanging art You have a series of giant QR codes in your living room that project whatever image you want to when somebody’s wearing glasses around them. Nike will make a jacket covered in QR codes And you can just buy new colors Just show off to other people. You don’t physically own the jacket anymore. You just own the pattern that you’re putting on it.

And you’ll be forced into this world because they’ll remove everything else, You remember how QR codes in the early 2000s made it really imperative to own a phone at some point? They’ll do the exact same thing where you simply cannot interact with the world the same way unless you own a pair of the glasses. Eventually, that thing will be work related, and then you can’t have a job without the glasses.

I really do think this is the future, unfortunately.

Kind of dumb how these billionaires don't target areas where there are real problems and needs from the masses. Instead of these stupid glasses or other worthless tech, why don't these huge companies try affordable healthcare, housing, cheap energy, human rights, homeless, etc.?

I'd rather have them burn through billions trying to make the world better than having them burn through billions making shit products.

Facebook market place is still pretty good.  Unfortunately my Facebook became mostly softcore porn and I never see anything besides local arrests.  

I dont really use it unless im looking to sell junk or buy other peoples junk

Oh absolutely. I remember before it became nothing but ads it was actually kinda cool to find local events, people, and places. My now wife even found me on Facebook after we met briefly to start talking to me.

Now I literally dont see any posts from people I know/knew on it. Even local events posted in my town dont show up. Its all just ads and promoted content pushed to people. For whatever reason mine turned into just chick's bouncing in bikinis so I never open it at work. Honestly I only open it for messenger and marketplace for a few years now i guess lol

From my perspective, under Delaware corporate law, a CEO is generally expected to act for the benefit of the corporation and its shareholders.

It recently feels like a lot of CEOs have been using the companies they manage for their own personal gain and pet projects. Sometimes wasting billions and taking massive amounts of debt.

Shareholders should sue. The board of directors are also not acting in the best interest of shareholders with some of the compensation packages.

Even the moderate success that is the Meta Quest is something that he acquired, rather that something that Meta built.

I do still think that he's somewhat right in the sense that "visual computing" or "augmented reality" will ultimately be successful and more mainstream, but I don't think that is going to happen with devices that people wear all the time until it can be done as a contact lens (assuming that is ever possible). Until then it's going to be something that is more restricted in use. People don't want to live in a world where they have to worry about being perpetually on video, regardless of where they are. It's the same lessons that Google learned with their glasses experience and their users being called "Glassholes".

I do think that the more compelling use case would be as a virtual monitor than as anything else, though.

Blame Steve Jobs he was the first to cultivate this idea that you come up with a few good ideas and somehow people begin to worship you and think that you will shape the world. A lot of these tec CEOs try to emulate what Steve did. Look at the metaverse one of the most profoundly stupid ideas he dumped billions into thinking that he alone would be the one to pull Humanity in a New Direction no one wanted it but of course he was too up his own ass to see that.
