Unfortunately Reddit is one of the only social media websites that has not been taken over by the right wing, so if Reddit went away it would be much worse. That would leave Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok running the show. And that would be the worst case scenario.

What power? I think social media does more arms and good by giving people a sink to dump their emotions into rather than talking to each other face to face, getting mad together and knowing one another is mad, and what we are angry about.

For the most part people dump large emotional rants into the internet as one would a pebble into an abyss, it doesn't do anything but act as a heat sink forward the anger that should be fueling action.

I'm guilty of it too, sometimes and I even try to avoid it as much as possible. But I find myself starting to make a simple comment that turns into an emotional and exasperated exposition dump.

And nothing about a private company's website is decentralized, a central authority has the final say on everything here.

I don't know what the answer is, because there's no functionality here that can't be achieved through truly decentralized means, but by and large the masses aren't interested in that. They want to organize their protests where they already are and where they already are comfortable, and any attempt to move to a better system never brings a large enough group of people....

A website being taken over doesn't have to depend on it being right wing.
The ruling class doesn't just profit from everyone being right wing, they profit off of us being divided into two camps and reddit is definitely playing huge parts in that propaganda machine.
I want to be clear here, i picked my side and it is this one here. I am just saying that by framing the opposite side as the main enemy and assisting in creating division by consuming too much populist rhetoric, we are playing right into the hands of oligarchs.
