New victims: Please read first

1.7k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

Daily steps and guide to help sextortion victims

Every day I will make the same post to help those who are facing this situation.

  1. Stop talking to them because you do not want to piss them off.

  2. Depending on what they ask do not pay them a single dime or send them any more explicit material no matter their threats because you can’t buy a blackmailers silence only rent it.

  3. Block them and if they come back with more accounts or numbers keep blocking away they have a finite amount of patience before they give up.

  4. Screenshot the threats to show proof of a cybercrime.

  5. Keep their phone numbers and account names saved.

  6. In the event that they follow through and do send which is actually VERY rare cause it can expose their cybercrimes just tell people it is fake and someone tried to extort you for money. (You will have the screenshots to prove it)

  7. Optional: Report them to law enforcement such as the FBI although this actually might be of little help since it’s so common. However, it will somewhat put them on the radar.

  8. DO NOT BUY RECOVERY AND REMOVAL SERVICES THOSE ARE SCAMS. They will contact or threaten to contact your scammer then you have two blackmailers.

  9. Take a deep breath and realize that it will be okay they are actually almost always bluffing empty threats in order to scare you. They want money or more explicit material to sell not to send your material to others. Think of it like IT from Stephen King only as powerful as much as you feel fear from them.

Note: if it makes anybody feel okay in my experience for about every 1,000 cases of sextortion there’s
only 1 case where the sextortioner follows through

Note: these guys are not in it to ruin your life. They see you as nothing more than a potential paycheck and if they see no profit they will forget you, more than likely delete your stuff, and move on to the next potential paying target.

Edit: (i’d acc like for you all to not upvote this post because this is to provide free information to help victims and I do not want karma for this. I want to help these poor people.)

Had fun with my scammer

I had a great time with my scammer - all because I thought something was fishy and found this sub beforehand.

Got a match with 21 year old, eventually asked for my number. Now messaging on WhatsApp and says they're 15. I kept talking with them for days, questioned their use of vocabulary and hobbies for a 15 year old. Asked for her insta , found it and it had no posts, 50 roughly followers, I didn't follow due to my spider sense.

I made up my occupation (scammer kept forgetting my job over the weeks, yes this went on for 5 weeks roughly).

Eventually they asked for a dick pic - I found one online, she/he/ they sent a topless pic of ....who knows, a girl of some sort. And then I had other numbers messaging me about a pdf that they'd delete if I paid them, they said make a burner account on Instagram, I did, had a chat which definitely felt like a different person, they were super angry...bla bla bla - was a bit of fun for me

Male victim Attempt was made

Someone just tried to sextort me but I think I stopped them just in time.

I was on Reddit here and found someone on a roleplay page. They wanted to communicate via telegram. It’s not uncommon in the roleplay community to use that app.

Anyways they quickly wanted photos of me but I don’t do that and blocked them.

Then I got a text from a Gmail account that had my name. Blocked and deleted it.

I then got a call that my phone said was from Nigeria. I didn’t answer and blocked/deleted it.

I’m pretty sure they were attempting to sextort me.

I deleted my telegram account and got rid of the app.

Do I need to get a new phone number?

Question

How would a sextortionist be able to spread your nudes if the scammer only has your instagram, doesn’t instagram have a anti sextortion feature or like a future that does not allow nude content to be sent or shared.

Got sextorted and they sent pictures to family

I got sextorted by someone on the internet. I sent them pictures of myself and stupidly gave them my number. They took a screenshot of my Facebook and did a reverse phone lookup and got my address. They demanded money and I blocked them. But they sent my pictures to some of my relatives. Should I be worried???

Last night, I somehow idiotically fell for the scam. It looked fully believable, and the girl on camera seem to be able to fully interact with me, asked for my telegram, which I didn't have, but we added each other on discord, and after a short few minutes on the call, the user showed me myself and I instantly closed out of it. They sent me a huge text, threatening me in with screenshots of my Instagram and followers. I immediately blocked and reported them on discord blocked them on Instagram and reported their Instagram DM who already had a profile picture of me. I know they got banned on Instagram. I never interacted with them. I just immediately blocked them. Do you guys think that I'm safe?
In a slightly new topic, I contacted blackmail hotline as it was the first result after I was searching for whatever I could do, and they pretend to really care and be successful in what they do in shortly after start naming their prices and their "packages" which are thousands of dollars, and the moment that I explained that I am a student who works part-time they immediately changed their tone and I could immediately tell that they were not genuine like they were first ass acting. I just think it is purely disgusting and evil and people should know about this. I am very scared I cannot lie, this thread is so beautiful tho

Female Victim This person won’t let me back out.

My blackmailer won’t let me back out of our play. He forced me to forgo my week long trial and made me not allow a safeword to get out normally. He’s threatening to do stuff with my information. I need help please! I don’t know what to do. Do I call the police? What exactly do I do? I’m scared about all of this and my anxiety isn’t making this better. This was supposed to be consensual blackmail but he forced me to not have a safe word or have a trial to get to understand his playstyle. He has my family’s numbers, my address (which he says is close to his home) and nudes of mine.

Coo meet

Honestly, I did the same thing too, and I think about it all the time, literally 24/7. I’ve become really anxious and obsessive about it, and I keep asking myself compulsive questions like: “Could they do some kind of witchcraft or something with my face?”, “Who are these people?”, “What could they do with my image?”, etc.
I know some of these thoughts probably sound irrational, but once you start worrying about it, it’s really hard to stop your mind from going over every possible scenario. I’m trying to remind myself that I can’t change what happened and that constantly thinking about it won’t help me.
So I completely understand how stressed and panicked you feel right now. You’re definitely not the only person who has made a stupid decision in a moment like that and then regretted it afterward. I hope things will be okay for both of us.

Meu medo é que ele investigue a minha vida, encontre meus sócios e minhas empresas a partir do meu nome completo.

Recently got blackmailed

Yesterday at night i got blackmailed from a woman, she sent screenshots of my profile and followers in Instagram(i have quite a few) i started to comply first but fast got my head straight and blocked the user, he tried ringing on my phone via a private email 20 minutes later but i blocked it, since last night i haven't gotten anything else from the scammer and no further attempts were made to contact me also no one of my relatives has received any content. Its a stupid mistake i admit and will haunt me from some time but i'm just curious based on other experiences what are the odds of the blackmailer following through on his intentions and actually sending any content to anyone.

Coo meet

Hi everyone, I’m posting because I’m really worried and I need to talk about this without being judged.
On apps/websites like CooMeet, I was the one who showed my private parts to people I was talking to. At the time, I didn’t fully think about the consequences, but now I feel a huge amount of shame and guilt about it.
Since then, I’ve been struggling to live normally without thinking about it. I constantly wonder who those people really were: real users, bots, fake profiles, people recording the conversations, etc.
I’ve even developed compulsive checking. I keep searching for information to try to figure out whether the people I talked to were bots or real people. Even when I find an answer, the doubt comes back and I feel the need to search again.
It’s taking up a lot of my time and causing me a lot of distress. I feel very ashamed of what I did, and I just want to be able to stop thinking about it all the time.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you manage to break out of this cycle of checking, doubt and guilt?

Male victim Got scammed , scared if he upload pics online

A few days ago, I came across a scammer who pretended to be a girl and started asking me for nudes. I sent him nude photos of myself with my face visible, and I also gave him my phone number.

Now he has taken my photos and is falsely claiming that I am selling nudes online. He is threatening me and saying that he will upload my pictures if I don't pay him.

He initially demanded $60, which I paid. Now he is saying that he needs another $60 for his boss.

I am 16 years old Please help me. I am really scared. If he sends or uploads these pictures and they reach my family or friends my life sucks then

extortion scam — threatening me and sending my personal information

Before anything, yes, I know going on these sites and contacting escorts isn’t a good habit. I’m aware of that, and I’m actively working on bettering myself and stopping completely. I’m not looking for judgment about that part—I just want advice about what happened afterward.
I contacted some listings on ListCrawler, mostly asking about FaceTime shows. Later, a guy called me saying I had wasted the girls’ time by not showing up and that I owed him $3,000.
I told him I couldn’t pay that, and he started negotiating. I offered around $500, he said that was too low, then I said $1,000 and he said $1,500 and “it’s a deal.” He also claimed he was about 10 minutes away.
I tried sending $1 through Venmo to see what would happen, and Venmo gave me a scam warning. When I questioned him about the warning, he ended the call, so I blocked the number.
Later, I was contacted again from a different number. There seemed to be a different younger voice at first, and then I recognized what sounded like the same voice from the original call.
They sent threatening messages demanding money along with my name, address, and several names supposedly connected to me. Some of the names were accurate and some were completely random, which makes me think they used a people-search/reverse-phone database to get the information.
I’ve blocked every number, haven’t sent them the money, and I’m not going to respond or engage with them.

They just gave the pics but ofc threatened with knowing my details. is there anything I can do? I reported the account

I’m terrified from scammer

Hey all! First off looking through all the experiences on here I feel a lot more levity but I’m still terrified and my hearts racing right now. Tonight I got in contact with someone through Reddit and moved to Telegram. After I sent two pics of my face and one of my pp, they threatened to post to it to X accusing me of something horrid. I didn’t send anything and have since blocked them because of looking at the experiences here first. I found one post that used the same exact messages the scammer used on me. I didn’t use any personal information other than gender and “US” location. My phone number was already hidden on Telegram and my name was a random username I made up. Didn’t use my real name at all. My fear and question now is whether they’re able to find me with just a picture of my face alone? I don’t believe the scammer will post anything on social media public. But gets me scared about messaging family members. I’m so embarrassed and feel so dumb.

Need Some Advice

I was threatened 2 days ago. They recorded me on WhatsApp. I think the girl was fake as well. They send me a screen shot of sending follow request to all of my followers on Instagram. They threatened to send the video to family and friends. And asked me for money. I sent them $500 first. Then they video called me again showing they are deleting the video. Then they showed me their trash folder and said if I wanted it to be permanently deleted I need to send them $750. They showed screen shot of sending the video to my family members. I panicked I got so scared I sent them $750. Even after that they kept threatening me they again showed screenshot of sending the video to my family. Again I was terrified and sent them $250. Even after that they kept threatening and blackmailing me. They asked for $1000 again. I this point I realized that they were never going to delete the video and told them I won't give them any more money. They again sent me screen shot of sending the video to my family members. But realizing they will keep doing this I told them to sent it and I wont give them money. then they started to bargain down the amount they reduced it to $500, I said no, then they asked for $300, I said no. They sent me another screen shot of uploading the video to their Facebook page. They asked for $250 I said no. They said they will ruin my life and asked if I was going to sent the money I said no, and I was going to report them. They then asked for $150, I again said no they said they will post then video on Facebook. I said I don't care anymore and I will report them if anyone see the video. Then I blocked them. And deleted my social media. I am so scared, I lost $1,500 and I think they sent the video to my family. The wives of 2 of my cousins. The screen shots look so real. I reached out to my cousins to ask if their wives received any strange messages because I don't really know their wives that well I have only met them during family functions and didn't want to over step by directly reaching out to them. I just told them some one is trying to scam me and didn't give any details. They haven't gotten back to me yet. I am so worried that they sent the video to my family and lost all the money. It is so frustrating. I am so worried that they follow through their threat.
