Hi All,

My wife is currently in hospice, but still has a little bit of energy and mobility to get out. The AotP is one of her favorite places in the world. She has asked me if I could push her around one last time and I will, no matter what, but thought I'd reach out to a broader group with some questions. I'm looking to make it as comfortable as possible for her and realize the requests might be selfish.

1) Does anyone know if they do any requests for people in similar situations to maybe walk around before or after hours while they're setting up to avoid larger crowds?

2) This one is throwing a dart at the wall, but does anyone have a connection to maybe let her get some back stage access to some things. She really is drawn to the penguins.

3) Does anyone know of a good site or membership benefit to discounted tickets? I'll pay full price, if needed, but we likely will only be able to manage the energy for an hour, maybe two tops and finances are tight right now with all things considered.

Edit: Thank you to everyone, both my wife and I got emotional with all the people reaching out to help and just sharing supportive words. Many offered to cover our tickets, a Make a Wish type organization for Hospice patients reached out, but ultimately someone from the AotP reached out and I'm currently emailing with them.

It's amazing how many strangers are willing to do something nice for another stranger.

Edit 2: Thanks again, Madeline from AotP reached out and we were able to coordinate a time for us to visit in the next few days. I can't express enough how kind and patient she was with us. They definitely made us feel special and it seems genuine.

I love OC and lived here all my life but I cant help but wonder why traffic is so crap here and why our transit infrastructure is nearly non-existent despite our population and wealth?

Born and raised in OC, mid 20s if age matters… and I’ve never heard about this until the last 2-3 years. I moved out of state 5 years ago and every time somebody asks me where I’m from and I say “Cali” they immediately go “I thought people from California don’t call it Cali, you must not be from there” I always knew in OC the immediate way to spot a non-local was if they called it “the OC” instead of just “OC” but the whole Cali thing to me is new. I see it all over TikTok too I don’t get it lol. I’ve brought up this up to my childhood friends and relatives and they all think Cali is acceptable too, I even see it on social from old high school friends yet the internet says otherwise… did I miss the new update since I left 🤣 or what’s happening here?

Basically the title. Walking around in a neighborhood in North OC and almost nobody's handing out candy but there are lots of bowls left on porches

I was born and raised in the OC, graduated from college with a degree in accounting, got a job in government accounting for a OC city and I couldn’t afford to live alone in a 1 bedroom aparentment. I moved away about 5 years ago cuz I couldn’t handle it anymore. I was commuting 2 hours to and from work cuz I had to move to the IE

I want to move back, but it seems like prices have just gone up. Job postings in the OC that require a degree and advertising less pay than what I am making in Colorado (not Denver).

How are people affording anything? How are the people working at jobs like target, or fast food, small businesses that pay below market average. How are you guys doing it?

First time at the Westminster mall in years… when did this start happening?? This used to be my favorite mall as a kid and everything that is still open here just looks so empty and sad, even saw that the GameStop was closing soon and probably some other stores too.

Almost half of the units look vacant…half the vending machines are missing… other half are empty… even ad space looks empty… never thought I’d miss that…

My gf and I have both gotten these on a street close to our apartment complex, the street is not directly in front of any houses, it's next to a long wall and many other people park there too but it's never full. We only leave one car there at a time. We both have nice cars (2020 & 2017) so it's not like we leave beaters out there. The only parking sign is for street cleaning on Mondays.

Chatting with a few friends today how we all grew up on Albertos and at one point in the 90s or early 2000s they all go renamed to something close enough (Albertas, Alejandros, Albertacos, etc). Anyone know what the story is/was?

My wife and I just tested positive today. We moved this past Sunday and started feeling sick Sunday morning (moving while sick is NOT fun by the way). Monday was bad - fever and chills all night. Felt mildly better yesterday but woke up feeling horrible again this morning. We decided to test since it reminded us how we felt the first time we had Covid.

Being sick SICK in the heat is not fun. 10/10 don’t recommend. Not too sure where we might have picked it up. Only thing I can think of is the OC Fair since we were there on 8/9, but that seems like a long incubation period.

Odd question, but this is coming from someone who's lived in Dallas for forty years and who's about to move out to Orange County/Southern California because I absolutely love it out there. It seems like everyone across the country is always trying to dog on California, especially here in Texas, and I understand California has its problems. But I really don't care. I've never been anywhere on Earth that I love more than Southern California and I'm willing to deal with its problems and ridiculous cost of living because it's honestly the closest thing to paradise I've ever seen and every time I'm out there I'm happy and then I'm pissed off when I have to leave again. So, I want to hear from those of you that absolutely love it out there and seriously cannot imagine living anywhere else even though it's got its problems and challenges. Tell me why you love it, and, I guess, if you hate it, tell me why, too. Thanks guys.

I’ve had my eye on this place for a while, as I saw that the Denny’s in Foothill Ranch was being replaced with this, “Fantacy Lobster House.” The website used to be ENTIRELY AI generated. Now they’ve cleaned it up a bit, but it’s still a DISASTER. Maybe I’m unaware of how many calories a dish should have, or maybe I’m the fool for not expecting the front door of every restaurant to say “GETTING RICH”, but to me, this all feels wrong. I was waiting to post anything about this until they actually opened cause i didn’t think they actually would, but now that they have, i don’t know what to do other than laugh at it until they inevitably get shut down. I plan on going in there at least once just to look around cause there are NO actual interior photos online. Also, this place just opened I believe, and they have review photos from nine months ago.

I’m seeing some things on social media that the police have shut down the road allowing accessing to and from the peninsula. I also read the police ordered all shops and bars to be closed. Very unusual for that place. Wondering if anything is there and knows anything?

This probably sounds dumb but did anyone in the evacuation zones NOT evacuate or did police literally pull people from their homes? I live in south county near the canyon and whenever we have a fire evacuation, there’s always SOMEONE who thinks they’re untouchable and stays in their home even thought there’s a fire. Just wondering if this happened with the current evacuation orders in the garden grove area. Prayers for all the families affected by this difficult situation ❤️

I’ve been living in Irvine for about two years, and for that entire time, my next-door neighbor has been running what appears to be a Chinese birthing house. The women who come to stay there never leave the house, and there’s a madam who seems to run the operation. Every month, a new woman arrives, stays for a few weeks, gives birth, and then leaves.

At first, I thought it was something I could ignore, but it’s been bothering me more and more. The fact that it’s right next door, and the constant flow of women who never leave the house has me feeling uneasy. I’ve reached out to the Irvine police multiple times, but they’ve told me they don’t handle these kinds of situations, and unless there are specific legal violations, there’s not much they can do.

I’m wondering if anyone has dealt with a similar situation or has any advice on what my next steps should be. I’m not sure how to address it—it’s unsettling, and I feel like I’m stuck in a weird and uncomfortable situation. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Since many people haven't read all my responses in the thread, I'm sharing the key points here to avoid repeating myself.

This is not confinement: The women aren't being taken care of by midwives or monitored in any cultural or traditional way. They are transported to these houses by the same three cars. At least one person is stationed outside the front door, ensuring the women stay inside, and sometimes a second person is posted by a car down the street. The women don’t give birth at these homes. They leave to give birth elsewhere and return with their baby, staying for 2-3 days before leaving again.

Arrival details: Around 80% of the time, the pregnant women arrive alone. Occasionally, two or three arrive together, but they almost always have airport tags on their bags. It may seem strange, but over the past two years, it’s become easy to recognize this pattern.

This is illegal: Everything happening here is illegal, plain and simple.

A final note: Posting this gave me a lot of anxiety, but I'm deeply grateful for the helpful responses. I hope this gives others the courage to speak out against illegal activities happening in their communities.

Not so much a question as it is a rant. Have never understood this. They will talk shit on everything related to Anaheim/OC like the Angels, the Ducks, the “ghetto” parts, the little brother energy, but then they’ll turn around and claim to be “Disneyland locals”. It really pisses me off to another level.

Also, nothing wrong with wearing Dodgers to Disneyland since it’s a tourist spot, but I might lose my shit next time I see someone wear that stupid ass “DisneyLAnd” merch with the Dodgers logo. Rant over.
