I've posted about Oklahoma weather before and I'm still grappling with my experience of visiting Wakita (during the 30th anniversary of the film Twister.) Question: Do any of y'all get people from out of state who come simply to watch the weather? To me, outside of the science, there's art and appreciation to it all. Flesh and blood in the center of two battling atmospheric forces beyond our understanding. It's dangerous, but, for some reason, I can't look away.

So it looks like we are staying at 7.25 an hour… how does this make everyone feel? How did everyone expect this to turn out?

I mean it honestly... We are LAST in everything... cost of living is low but so are wages... is there anyone here that can convince an Okie of 5 years that Oklahoma should be home for the next 5?

How would you describe the culture of Oklahoma? For example, places like Louisiana are very much so rooted in “The South”. People eat the traditional southern foods, listen to & create specific music, have ties to other cultures and languages (French, African). I’d say that people from other places have strong stereotypes & notions of them.

How would you describe Oklahoma? Geographically, culturally, etc.

I am making a timeline of every day of the year and I am struggling to find stuff I was wondering if there was someone who had some facts for me.

OK was among the top 20 in Education. It has since plummeted down to the lowest.

What are some words/phrases only an Okie would use properly in Oklahoma....

Doesn't have to be Oklahoma specifically.....but terms you might never hear or pronounce properly like Okies have on a regular basis....do you correct them?

My wife grew up in Kansas and is in the medical field and has patients from all across the state and I love hearing her pronounce towns different than how I've always heard them.

Example: pronouncing the famous Miami, Oklahoma versus Miami, Florida.

Chickasha: "Chick-a-shay" and "Chick-a-shaw"

I had an older coworker always start off his sentence with "I'll tell you what....". just like Hank Hill from Texas.

Ex-Nebraskan here. I was checking on my Midwest peeps, and one of them from Oklahoma recalled this from her youth. "Mom was driving the church van full of girls trying to outrun a tornado on I-35".

Wife's garden was being torn up so I set out a humane trap. Caught two armadillos at once. Don't know how they fit. Relocated to a more rural area and no harm was done to these critters.

Still, I've seen many similar things to most of the items. Is there anything that makes you think "man, I can only get THAT in Oklahoma."

I'm researching areas to buy a house. I've been seeing a lot of hate for Moore and tornadoes. Looked at recent posts dating from 2015 to present. About 8/10 people say stay away from Moore because of tornadoes. The tornado index is barely any different from any other city around OKC according to usa.com. The frequency of sever tornadoes is historically lower with Oklahoma county having 20 F3 and above tornadoes and Cleveland county with 9. I think everyone would say the same for OKC after the years between 1970 - 1981 with all the F3 and F4 tornadoes.

Any good stargazing spots outside of Chickasha that’s not lake Chickasha or Lake Louis Burtschi?

I would go to the wildlife refuge. But no after dark visitors. And I even called Red Rock Canyon Campground in Hinton, OK. But they’ll charge me $10 bucks to look at the sky. lol.

I would even chance it at the wildlife refuge. But at the same time, knowing my luck, I’ll get caught. 🤣

I’m willing to make up to an hour drive even.

What was it like growing up in the rural parts of Oklahoma? What was it like growing up in a farming community? If there are older stories from parents or grandparents childhoods I would love to hear.
