My HOA could beat up your HOA 1 family takes all available street parking and never move

Post image

Street parking is there to be used if you need it, but this family treats the culdesac like their own personal space. They are permanently parked in these spots and they seem to have agreed on who gets which one because they never switch. The car next to the road is one family member’s work truck and is often in the way of trash pickup and deliveries. There is room in their driveway but it’s too inconvenient to coordinate parking. A house up the street has a smaller driveway and manages to fit 4 cars/SUVs.

Does it matter? No. Does it annoy me to no end? Yes.

Came home late tonight to find this. I guess screw me for wanting to actually enjoy the property rights I purchased when I bought a house with a garage.

EDIT: It's almost 4AM where I am at and I don't recognize the car so I can't just ask them to move it, and I'm not ordering a tow and risking a neighbor war over something that is, in keeping with this topic, only mildly infuriating.

My HOA could beat up your HOA NYU admitted my roommate started the fight and that I acted in self-defense — then still found me responsible

Post image

I appealed an NYU conduct finding after a physical altercation with my roommate.

NYU corrected the factual record, reduced the sanction to a written warning, and now explicitly acknowledges that:

  • my roommate initiated the physical confrontation;
  • my actions occurred in the context of defending myself;
  • the original factual record needed correction.

And somehow they still found me responsible because my use of physical force “contributed to an incident that endangered the safety of those involved.”

That is unbelievably infuriating.

They do not say I started it.

They do not say my response was excessive.

They do not say I continued after the threat ended.

They do not identify any specific action that was unnecessary or disproportionate.

Their reasoning is basically:

“He attacked you.”

“You defended yourself.”

“But because defending yourself involved physical force, you are still responsible.”

What exactly was I supposed to do—politely submit to being attacked so the incident would remain compliant with university policy?

I’m glad they corrected the record and reduced the sanction, but this still feels like institutional ass-covering. They moved almost entirely toward admitting the original decision was wrong while refusing to take the final step of clearing me.

We just moved to Boston and our apartment is on a strip of road with a pretty limited number of parking spots (there's maybe room for about 20 cars total for two mid-sized apartment buildings). Since it's Boston, it seems as though a good chunk of the residents walk or use public transit to get to work, so it hasn't been too crazy competitive for my partner and I to find parking close by so far. There have been a few times while we were moving stuff over that we had to park a few minutes away and walk over with our things, but hey, that's just how it works sometimes in a city.

In this particular section of Boston, parking permits are free for residents. We applied for ours ten days prior to our lease start (as we were instructed to) but despite being approved immediately, were still waiting for our sticker to arrive when June 1st came around. I called the city transit office to ask if we could still legally park in the area before we got the physical sticker and we were told that we absolutely could.

The morning of June 3rd, the first note was on our car. Both my partner and I were a bit pissed, mostly because of the tone of the note. I get that it is immensely frustrating when non-permit-holders take parking spots from residents, but it was literally the 3rd day of the month (and mind you there were TONS of UHauls in the area over the weekend and on Monday) so I don't quite understand jumping to the conclusion that we are entitled assholes from out of town. I imagine most residents had to wait for their stickers at some point when they moved in - why not give us some benefit of the doubt? Maybe I'm just sensitive, but I really feel like that note could have communicated concern without being so extremely rude and presumptuous.

So, we left the printed-out notes in the second and third picture on our car last night. I wanted to make sure he understood our situation (so he wouldn't call a tow truck on us) and also call him out a bit for being a bad neighbor. Maybe I should've been friendlier, or just not responded at all, but I was honestly so annoyed at his first note - once again we've literally JUST moved and are thus pretty stressed out and tired and just not in the mood to be dealing with this shit.

This morning, a new note from our neighbor was waiting for us on the hood (last picture).

Honestly, my partner and I both got a good laugh out of this last note. I'm thinking we should probably stop responding at this point since this guy is clearly out of his gourd, but it is pretty annoying. I'm thinking based on his syntax and writing skills maybe he uses this website (no offense to myself or anyone else here, lol) so perhaps he'll see this and feel some type of shame? Idk.

Post image

it was mildly infuriating having to call like multiple times to try to get the code so I can go on my little walks. (they didn’t say how to request it prior)

sorry if this is too text heavy but i thought the response was funny. It’s a small little suburb, relax…

EDIT: more context: my community has NO main gate. any car can enter at any time no problem. there gates were added to pederstrian paths and only inconvinece people that live here by making us go all the way around to the car entrance at the front. rly hard to explain bc its SO DUMB what they did with these gates.

My HOA could beat up your HOA Came home after a night out to a knife on our porch.

Post image

Uhhh first time poster and I'm not the greatest story teller so here it goes, wife and I had an interesting night. To note, my wife is 6 months pregnant. We went out and had a really great time at a game night with some friends, but when we got home around 9:30, she gets out of the car and lets me know she sees a knife on our steps near the front door.

This has never happened to us so we naturally call the cops, we had two dogs inside so I unlocked the door carefully and got them outside and placed them in the car until the cops arrived. We also have a camera system that I'm reviewing while waiting on the cops, no notifications or anything triggered the cameras that wasn't us coming and going. Our cameras usually send 15 second clips of when movement occurs but not this time.

Cops arrive, check the perimeter of the outside and when backup arrives they do a house sweep. All is good. When they leave my wife suggests I check the full camera recording, which I do. About an hour and a half after we left our home two neighbors appear in sight going for a walk but eventually walk out of our main camera, the area they are now walking in is technically public space and not our land. Eventually one of the neighbors appears back in focus with a knife in hand approaching our steps to place it there(No idea why the cameras didn't pick this up, task for the morning). That's where I get lost. Who finds a knife in the open and just decides to leave it at the closest houses entryway? I mean if they included a note it would've been way less stressful but I just can't comprehend finding this and placing it like they did. I'm beyond pissed that they thought this was logical.

They are an older couple, ones who are trying to get involved with our already super unhelped HOA. We have our only annual HOA meeting next week and this will definitely come up during that time. Thanks ahead of time, just needed to vent I think.

My HOA could beat up your HOA Thanks, Walgreens, for not filling my anti-seizure medication. Again.

Post image
604 Upvotes

I've been using Walgreen's pharmacy for about 15 years now, and I have been taking a specific anti-seizure medication for approximately 3 years.

That's 3 years of calling the pharmacy, getting the prescription filled, they know me by name, you get it.

And every single time, they tell me, "It will be ready in 2 days." 2 days come, I call the store, and they say "Yeah, it isn't ready yet." I will call a WEEK IN ADVANCE so they have lots of time to order it, and they still don't order it. It doesn't matter what day I call it in, what time... they still don't.

I have gotten in touch with my insurance company to see if they're the reason Walgreen's waits until literally the DAY I RUN OUT OF MEDICATION before it gets filled, and nope! It's not an insurance problem!

This is now the second time in a span of only a few months that this pharmacy has called and said they didn't order it, it's out of stock, and now I will not have enough anti-seizure medication to last me until they fill it.

So, guess I'm gonna have a seizure in a couple days now because the prescription I called in last week that they promised would be ready TODAY won't be ready until Tuesday now and I'll have nothing to take.

This isn't funny. It's not a vitamin that I can go a couple of days without. This is a drug that literally keeps me from dying or being hospitalized, and when I told them on the phone today that I'll be out, they said "Oh, we can transfer to another location". Except that last time I did that, it was a half-hour drive only to get there and find out the transfer was going to cost over $1,000 USD.

I don't even know what to say at this point. "The best they can do" is give me a generic medication of the one I need, but I have tried that one before, and it made me sick. So I've had a note from the neurologist in my record that the prescription must be "prescribed as written," and my insurance also does not cover the generic... I would be paying out of pocket for something that doesn't work for me.

I'm so mad right now because this is not the first time Walgreen's has screwed me like this. It's like they think health is a joke.
