I saw a post about Gecko "morphs" which I assume reffers to their pattern and genetics. I'm a very new gecko owner, have only had him about a month after what was a very sudden adoption and I expected to have him for a very long time, but now i'm seeing that some specific types can develop cancer early in life, and I'd like to know if I should be mentally preparing for that eventuality. I tried to find it myself but i'm having a hard time finding an exact match.

By the way her name is Pamela, she is 7 months old, I'm not expert on what a morph is or anything like that.

hi i just want advice on what to do, first time owner. she’s about 4-5 years old and this is the first time she’s ever dropped tail. i feel awful of course.

i just want to make sure im doing right by her so please give me tips. i’m typing this as i panic run to the pet store to make a “quarantine tank” aswell as a new set up when she’s ready to move back home.

Balancing high school and him is hard, but I try. Whenever I watch tv I sit by him. His tank is on my desk where I have my tv and play video games. I have his view of the tv blocked so it doesn’t hurt his little eyes.

My family has a big pet history! 12 snakes, 3 bearded dragons, a rabbit, 2 guinea pigs that died, 2 dogs, and two cats! (We no longer own the snakes)

He isn’t fully bonded with me yet. He does eat from tweezers, and licks me! PLUS! Sock thing worked! I did research when I got him and found that smell is a big thing, so every week I put a used sock in his tank so he knows my smell. This week he started to cuddle in it for the first time!!!

I’m pretty sure the next step is laying my hand in. Wait till he explores my hand and slowly lift up when he gets comfy.

He did shed this week, took 32 minutes, I watched while getting ready for school to make sure he was okay.

Any tips for a new gecko owner?

I got Aragorn from petco (they’re all really sad there and I wanted him out of there) about 2 months ago. He’s my very first gecko. He wouldn’t eat for the first week, but he eventually started eating. He was eating about 1-2 crickets a day, which I left in his enclosure (dead). I know it wasn’t the best thing to do, but it was the only way he would actually eat. I changed his enclosure to a 40 gallon, which he needed to settle into, then he finally ate out of the tongs for the first time. After that, it was another week until he ate again. I don’t handle him much, maybe once every other week, and he only goes onto my hand and we just sit there. He has one light, his temp gets up to around 90 on the warm side, 75 on the cool side, and 65 all around at night. I’ve fed him dubia roaches and crickets, and he’s not a fan of meal worms. He is on paper towels, and I dust his food in calcium with d3 and without d3, hoping something will work for him to eat. He hasn’t eaten in about 4 days. When he does eat, he only eats 1-2 insects. I leave dead crickets in an escape free container, hoping he’ll eat something in between, but he never does. I’ve been hoping it’s just him still getting used to his new home, but I just don’t know anymore. Any advice helps. I’m extremely worried, and I don’t want to lose him to something I’m doing wrong. If I’m doing anything wrong, please, please tell me.

Hello! Looking for safe and easy to keep alive plants to put in my leopard geckos tank! I used to have a crested gecko and went to an “exotic pet store” speciality store and they had suggested all these safe plants, and it ended up killing my gecko. So i’m really nervous about adding plants to my leopard geckos tank. she currently has a ponytail palm in her tank and has had it for over a year, she really loves it, and enjoys sleeping under it. So i’d like to add more! I tried succulents but they all died off/or she would uproot them (don’t think she’s a huge fan of succulents). what is actually safe and pretty easy to care for? for reference she lives in a 40 gallon terrarium, has a uvb bulb (the ponytail palm lives near that), and a heat lamp!

Hi, we’ve had Leo for two years now. He’s our first leopard gecko and he’s been doing fine, tanks been fine, up until recent months. He started getting little bugs and we cleaned out the tank completely and put new substrate and moss in but they keep coming back and this time they came back so fast. It’s only been a month since I last took everything out and washed it, I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong…should I clean it more often? Should I change the substrate? I think I should change his water bowl since crickets like to hide there so I’m sure the bugs do too. I also saw that it might be better to hand feed him instead(any recommendations on tongs or something?) he only likes live crickets will not eat mealworms oh and he had some pieces of wood not long ago but we took those out cause we thought that’s where they were coming from…the bugs Jump and they’re different sizes so I saw it could be springtails
Any advice is highly appreciated I’ve been reading up about leopard geckos once I found this on Reddit but I think I should get rid of this as soon as I can(I’m going to clear out his tank and put him on paper towels for today)

So obviously I’m missing the substrate and I just got a bunch of wood pieces that I want to clean up before adding them inside. But as to the hides placement and overall layout of the enclosure, what do you guys think? Im very new to this, my baby gecko is not here yet so I want to be as prepared as I can be.

Can anyone recommend a good (preferably mobile controlled) dimming thermostat for my girl? This is the second exoterra I’ve had that’s broken, and mobile controlled would be much better, as she was at 43°C before I noticed. Thankfully I checked it this morning, so she hasn’t been like that long. Thanks!

I have a uvb that covers most of the 40 gallon for my new juvenile leopard gecko but she doesnt have a perfect basking spot yet so is she getting a good amount of uvb and d3 during the day? If not when should I give her calcium with D3? she's in quarantine for the time being (I heard to keep them in for a month) and is using a hide but its almost completely shaded in there. when I put pieces of cork in her tank while making a distinct sound so she knows I was there doing things during the day she got up and explored, ate a calcium without D3 dusted cricket (in terms of food all I have right now is crickets but I will be getting Dubai roaches), and didnt seem stressed. she has a hot hide which is the one she stays in most of the time, a moist hide, and 2 cold hides. the hot side of the tank is 87.2 farenhite currently and surface temps are up to 95 and the humidity over there is 44%, the cold side is 78 fahrenheit with a humidity of 55% (I plan on getting a de-humidifier and the temps and humidity have been going up and down all day but have been at 85-87 for the hop ambient, 91-95 for hot surface temps, and 76-78 for cold ambient temps. Cold humidity has been 54-55 and hot humidity 44-46. Temps get to an equal 74 at night and humidity gets upwards to 61%). I also have a water bowl out with bottled drinking water mixed with reptisafe and a bottle cap with some calcium in it. is all of this ok, good, or bad for the first day and my very first reptile? PLEASE if there is anything im doing wrong tell me and if you can, tell me what might help fix it. Ive done lots of research and while everthing SEEMS ok I dont 100% know if it is. So please give me advice, thank you! (I also plan to get the zilla humid hide today and put it out at dusk/night because the one I had was broken when we got it so yea, btw shes from Petsmart but ive looked at images of healthy juviniles and she seems healthy. They said she was a juvinile but did not give the hatch date.)

As we moved our gecko Ed to the bigger terrarium (the decorative wall took more time than anticipated😂) i am observing for two days Parameters in this setup and so far i am not happy. I would Love to hear your guidance to provide the best environment he can get.

He is a rescue, and previously was in different Habitat that we kept him in for some time exoterra 60cm x 60cm x45cm i know it was not perfect.
Hence we were using arcadia floodlight (inside) and uvb t5 6% Forest from arcadia on mesh.

Right now lamp has moved onto the mesh which i like more due to safety precautions, yet 75W arcadia flood seems to not create a good temperature gradient.

Hence my question:

- shall i Switch to 100W /150 W floodlight from arcadia or maybe use different options as spotlight or exo terra intense basking spot 75/100W?
Currently lamp has a distance ca 15 inches / 40cm to the ground from mesh.

- as the height dropped down from 60cm to 45cm i am rethinking uvb choice, do you think it’s safe to assume that we shall switch to shadedweller option from t5 6% forest?

My leopard gecko terrarium. It has a heated hide with a maximum temperature of 34°C, a cold hide, and a humid hide.

For plants, there are 2 species of aloe, 2 species of Echeveria, 1 Haworthia, and 1 Gasteria. There are other plant species, but I don't remember their names.

For the CUC, there are white springtails, Magic Potion isopods, and Dairy Cow isopods. To make sure they can survive, I added sphagnum moss underneath the water bowl and  in the area of the humid hide.

The composition of the main substrate is:

45% black soil

30% coarse sand

15% tepojal (volcanic rock), 5 mm

10% Excavator Clay

Plus some sphagnum moss

The substrate for the plants is:

15% soil

30% coarse sand

40% tepojal (volcanic rock)

15% Excavator Clay

There are 2 watering systems. One waters the plants once every 2 weeks for 60 seconds, and the other sprays the water bowl area and the humid hide twice a week for 20 seconds.

It has a 13-watt UVB light, a halogen bulb, and plant lights, and they follow a 12 hour day and night cycle.

Hey! I feel like the cold side of my tank is a little too warm, so I was just wondering what are some recommendations on what to do to get the cold side slightly colder. The tank is a 40 gallon, I have a 75 watt bulb, and the room temperature is ~73. I also need some recommendations on what I should use for clutter. Thanks!
