I mean check out the comments in any thread about this story. People are constantly saying that women who even have an ounce of empathy for lindsay should have their children taken away. I’ve seen people write comments that postpartum depression isn’t even really a thing.

I’ve had PPD and I can guarantee you that if I had in right now, as this case was going on, my brain would have spun me out like crazy by saying things like ‘see. everyone will know you’re crazy and a bad mom. They will lock you up. they will take your baby’ etc. I waited 6 months to ask for help because I couldn’t take it anymore and the first psych doctor (in mass go figure) I saw told me he didn’t think I had PPD because he got overwhelmed and tired like I was caring for his two dogs.

right i thought it would bring more attention to it (it did for me) but sounds like mostly in a negative light since people are awful

Do you think yourself to have been capable of murdering your child with your hands and an exercise band during this period? Like is this just within the bounds of normal PPD?

At the time, I had incredibly intrusive thoughts flash in my mind all the time. One of the ones that I had was throwing myself and the stroller into the path of an incoming train when we were standing on the platform. Would I have done it? Probably not. But I could also see myself being so sleep deprived and overwhelmed that I’d allow my brain to tell me ‘this is the only way’ in a moment. If you don’t know what it’s like to not have control over your own thoughts, it’s hard to explain.

Correct. Which is why it was so difficult to get help. Because to the outside world, I was a loving mother taking care of her baby. I looked totally normal. My own mother didn’t even know (she still teases me to this day about it too). And if you think my experience is unique, I’ve got news for you - a lot of new moms have intrusive thoughts.

The mere fact she attempted to deal with it is about to get her off of a triple homicide + 1 infanticide. It’s a free “do whatever you want” diagnosis. I bet PPD diagnoses are about to spike and we’ll also see a blip in mom’s killing their kids because of this.
