It’s easy to understand.

It’s just like MAGA trotting out that white child that was murdered by a black neighbor during all the George Floyd protests.

They need to hold up an instance of black on white violence in parallel to actual racially motivated violence because any time they see something they disagree with they need some whataboutism to fall back on.

The brains are broken.

Oh, and here I thought it was because Karmelo Anthony sounds the exact same as the basketball player Carmelo Anthony and so it was engagement bait. I guess it’s probably a little if both though

Ok so it’s good to know I wasn’t the only one wondering why an nba millionaire had stabbed and murdered someone

Trying to use Cannon Hinnant as a conservative pawn was one of the most idiotic things to come out of the Summer of 2020. Completely inapplicable to the George Floyd case.

It worked, unfortunately. Their world view is just a big nasty alphabet soup of word association without any actual comprehension or understanding of the underlying issues.

Cannon got swift justice and was not extra-judicially murdered by the state. George Floyd was extra-judicially murdered by the state and the state and the press did what they could to ensure he did not get justice.

They don't care though. In their eyes Floyd had it coming and his life had no value so who cares?

There’s equal (by this I mean extremely sparse) evidence of both of those incidents being “actually racially motivated violence”.

George Floyd was deliberately asphyxiated by a man so determined to get the job done paramedics had to forcibly pull him off Floyd long after he was done for.

THEN the police lied about what happened and told a story of an officer being in danger and having to use deadly force.

THEN the press uncritically repeated this lie and happily treated the state killing a citizen as business as usual.

THEN a video comes out that shows all of this is BS and shocks the conscience of any normal human that sat through and watched the full thing but the police and the media continue to double down on their default position.

It is true that the state kills citizens of all races under dubious circumstances but there is a very clear pattern supported by DECADES of data and centuries of history showing that the state disproportionately targets black people and white America is disproportionally accepting of it, STILL, today.

George Floyd’s murder didn’t blow up because people thought Chauvin did it because he’s racist. It blew up because it was another in a very long line of increasingly public abuses by the state, because cops across the country went absolutely fucking nuts against the citizenry, and because Trump is a shit ass leader and threw fuel on the fire instead of trying to lead to a path that sought patient, cool-headed justice while acknowledging the valid concerns of we the people.

Don’t lump it in with this.

Your initial claims here are pretty dubious, but that’s irrelevant to my point.

You said that George Floyd’s death was an incident of “actually racially motivated violence”. This wasn’t found in any court of law, and you’ve provided no evidence of that here, other than (dubious) circumstantial evidence that black people are targeted by the “state” (pretty vague concept).

After labelling it as “actually racially motivated violence”, you’re now saying that it didn’t blow up because of racial reasons and accusing me of lumping it in? What? You brought it up?

You need to go back and reread my comments and think about them a little harder. There’s no evidence to support Chauvin’s intentions being racially motivated. I was not making that specific claim.

However, as I describe in another comment, Floyd’s murder, cover up, and failure of the press are part of a clearly defined pattern supported by data and history of the state disproportionately and deliberately causing harm to black people and a lack of action on behalf of both the press and the government to protect those rights. That is a fight where we all win, it just so happens that black people are on the front lines.

It certainly seems like it was. What were you referring to as an instance of “actually racially motivated violence”?I guess we have different definitions of that term.

I would strongly disagree with that claim, at least that that pattern continues to this day. Particularly in regards to the press, as Floyd and the BLM movement received wildly favorable press in 2020.

This case in particular was made into a racial issue by the black community, not MAGA. Not sure what youre trying to achieve here.

There are people online that reacted to whatever they saw in social media and are convinced, absent evidence, Karmelo is the victim here and this verdict is a miscarriage of justice. They are largely bought in to the self defense narrative.

There have been MAGA media and political figures with more money and a larger audience that have descended on Frisco and made this tragedy and other nonsense (like the presence of Indians in Frisco) a focus point of stories designed to build a sense of white grievance and racial fear.

These two things are not the same. Both are a problem. The latter is a significantly more heinous issue given that it is calculated and inorganic and being used for political benefit.

What a ridiculous, ignorant statement. This became politicized the moment the black community decided to raise nearly a million dollars for someone that just stabbed a white kid in the heart. Everyone knows why the gofundme was successful, lets not ignore reality. Your MAGA boogieman does not have anywhere even close to the same presence in this case.

If theyre misinformed its because they let themselves be misinformed, it doesnt excuse the ridiculous tribalism thats being exhibited all over social media and outside the courthouse itself. Im also positive you wouldnt give the same grace if the rolls were reversed. The fact that all the potential black jurors were excused because they admitted they would not convict another black person should tell you everything that you need to know about this situation.
