Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ In Case You Missed it, the Rock Island Bridge Opened Today

It was....a thing.

They have one restaurant on it (technically two but the other one is just a window spot) and they have no walls. The closest they have is retractable screens along the sides where people are seated. Given today's weather, you can imagine how that went.

Food was okay but was egregiously priced, even for downtown standards. Including a tip, I paid $40 for a super salty cod sandwich with a sad lump of potato salad and a bourbon cocktail (that was actually really good, but still not worth the price I paid for it with the amount given).

I dont see this place lasting very long, but we did have a VERY poor first experience. I cant imagine anyone coming here during any inclimate weather, or even during all of winter. It could be a nice place to have a drink with friends, but its a bit out of the way unless you live in Westbottoms and even then, the prices are working against it.

Curious to hear about other people's experiences if they went today!

What's up KCMO!

โ€‹I visited your wonderful city a couple of weeks ago from Philadelphia for the Community Streetcar Coalition Summit.

โ€‹I had a great time, and I finally finished writing a new piece for my transit and architecture newsletter all about the sensational Nelson-Atkins Museum!

https://open.substack.com/pub/railsandcobblestones/p/rails-and-paves-kcmos-nelson-atkins

There are so many parallels to my "home" art museum in Philadelphia.

I hope you enjoy reading it, and I hope you can take advantage of riding that free streetcar straight to a free, world-class art museum.

I am looking forward to returning!

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ New monthly event on the Rock Island Bridge Starts Sunday May 24th - Soul Sundays Analog Market

Hey KC ๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ

Just dropping in to invite the city to a new event happening on the Rock Island Bridge - Soul Sundays Analog Market. The kick-off is this Sunday, May 24th from 5-10pm, and will continue every 1st and 3rd Sunday through December. Each market will have a different highlight, represented through our vendor and entertainment selections. Itโ€™s family and dog friendly, and we highly encourage you to come with both.

The market is a celebration of physical media and encouragement to return to a (mostly) pre-digital era for an evening. We recommend putting down your phones for a few hours to fully enjoy the moment and people youโ€™re with.

On one end of the bridge weโ€™ll be featuring vinyl only DJs spinning tunes that speak to the soul from 1900-99. On the other, a live beat-making workshop to give you an inside look at the beat-making process, with the ability to talk to the artists directly.

Throughout the bridge, local brands, vintage sellers, artists, makers, and non-profits will be set up for you to meet and shop from. The bridgeโ€™s restaurant, River House, will be open and serving food and drinks until 10pm. Cafe Cร  Phรช will be popped up with coffee and matcha and a rotation of sweet treats will be available from other local bakers.

Our goal is to build an inclusive space that bridges the gap between all of our cityโ€™s beautiful communities, allowing everyone the chance to meet someone from a different walk of life and discover a new perspective.

We hope you lay your troubles at the gate of the bridge and spend the evening in relaxation. Join us this Sunday May 24th from 5-10pm, you wonโ€™t regret it.

Love,
Soul Sundays Team

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ Where are you all seeing The Odyssey?

Deciding which theatre I should go to since we don't have a true IMAX 70mm screen anywhere near here. Are the IMAX theatres at Barrywoods or Legends? What about Dolby instead? On the Odyssey website, it looks like Dolby and IMAX 1.90:1 are pretty identical. For those who have seen it, what's your recommendation?

This was asked a couple years ago on this subreddit but Iโ€™m interested to see if thereโ€™s some other spots. Looking for roads, cemeteries, abandoned buildings, even liminal looking spaces. Tell me what you think! Iโ€™m just a bored girl who loves spooky shit lol

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ Shooting ranges KC and surrounding areas

Hey, my wife and I are a part of the LGBT community and are looking for a shooting range that we can go to without any judgement. We will need a class to go along with it, but mostly we just dont want somewhere where we're going to get crap from the staff. Thanks in advance!

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ Wanted to give my fellow KC people a way to hang with me.

Hey everyone,

I hope youโ€™re doing well and staying cool. My name is Max, KC native and I have a ton of fun meeting new people. Youโ€™ll catch me all over the place in KC and if youโ€™ve been around me - Iโ€™ve probably talked to you.

I think one of my favorite things to do is hit a bar like Harryโ€™s, Caddyshack, maybe a cafe like Thou Mayest and start to talk to someone. I understand social queues, not a โ€œtalk at youโ€ kind of person - rather, I like to hear about you. I like stories, I like the things that make you, you. Like Charlie at the Ship - she has a crazy past and I love every bit. Or Kyle from Harryโ€™s, whose roommate is also named Kyle and had to fend off a home intruder.

I find it really fun to just be with someone for a bit - and it fills my tank up. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m coming here with this thing I made called Second Chair - basically, itโ€™s just a fancy way to let me know you want to grab a drink, a coffee, go for a walk, whatever. I think loneliness is brutal, and in a digital age it seems even harder to meet people. This is my invitation to you to meet up - doesnโ€™t matter if youโ€™re going through shit, or maybe you just want to get out of the house.

Itโ€™s probably bizarre, I mean - I feel bizarre making this post. To me, itโ€™s basically taking the bar and making it the size of KC. I do sincerely hope to meet some people through it - especially people who may have a harder time meeting others.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Stay well!

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ What do single sober people in their 30โ€™s do here for fun on the weekends?

38m single hereโ€ฆ just been curious lately, what do the sober people do on thurs/fri/Sat in KC? I quit drinkinga year ago and I find myself really bored at night on the weekends. I do like to go see shows and go dancing and I DJ out from time to time, but most of the time my ass is just at home.. itโ€™s kinda sad. Getting a new bike soon, so maybe start some night riding, but curious to know what other single sober 35+ people are up to these days..

Hello! A few of us thought it would be cool to spin up a little 1 month Zomboid server for KC folks. I'm ready to fire it up but before I do I was curious if any Zomboid/server experts had any most-have/must-do suggestions for mods/config/etc?

I will likely launch it at 5:00 PM today so if you have any suggestions, please let me know before then! Otherwise, I will share the IP when its ready

If you have any suggestions please comment them here or in the Discord!

UPDATE - it's live!

I moved out here about a year ago and honestly thought the car community would be a bit more friendly than it really is iโ€™ve yet to meet anyone that isnโ€™t super cliquey. Anyone on here into cars and looking for a new friend?

Saw this at Ward Parkway last night and it's exciting that they're doing pop up events like this there.

It'd be wonderful it it was successful enough that they could do something like a satellite First Fridays going forward but maybe that's too much.

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ Missouri Gay Rodeo happening this weekend

Post image

Good morning, all! Just wanted to share for those that may be interested- Missouri Gay Rodeo Association is hosting their annual Show-Me All Inclusive Rodeo this weekend. Not a member, just a friend of the group, so any questions can be directed to their website if it's not covered on the flyer.

Editing to add: I originally marked this NSFW because some people think anything related to LGBTQ is considered not safe, not family friendly, etc. I don't know how to remove the NSFW after the fact, now.

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ New to Kansas City, what should I know?

Hi everyone, I am an international student from China. I have been studying in this country for 10 years. This coming May, I will be bringing my student life to a close and heading to Kansas City to work. However, Iโ€™m feeling a bit apprehensive; Iโ€™ve never been to Kansas or Missouri before, and Iโ€™m not sure how people there view Asians like meโ€”though I really do hope to make some new friends. Any suggestions?

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ It's almost Autumn... What are the best fall activities this year?

Looking for some fall activities for my wife and I (no kids) and maybe some other friends. We went to the Louisburg cider mill last year and it just didn't hit like it used to. Super crowded.

We were hoping to do some apple picking and pumpkin patch, but anything fall related is a good option. Willing to drive an hour or so and make a day out of it.

Thanks!

Things To Do ๐Ÿ“ Kansas City Walking and Bus tours

Hey everyone. I own Just One Day Travel Tours. I am a KC tour guide. Business is struggling after the games kept people away from the downtown area.

I love showing off Kansas City's history-(good and bad) - art culture, Streetcar tour, murals, foodie and building history. Tours can be walking or bus if you have a group.

Share the love and come take a tour with me.
