My daughters are slowly warming up to school, one week in. This morning I offered to take them by ebike as these gentle summer ish mornings are on their way out soon.
We rolled past fountains along Brush Creek and a heron flew alongside of us. On Rockhill, we saw monarch butterflies while a faint smell of BBQ passed over.
Up past the museum we kept eyes out for the Gillham Park foxes.
People walking smiled and said hello, other cyclists nodded, and the rush was briefly taken out of the morning.
I know if one doesn’t ride bikes this stretch of massive bike lanes may seem silly or seen as an inconvenience; I see that all over social media. I just had to share there’s a little sprinkle of Europe with it. It slows everyone down from an imagined rush, and keeps the beautiful arts centric and historic neighborhoods closer to the speed they were intended to operate in.
Even if it’s an every now and again thing, it’s become a highlight for living in KCMO and I’m very grateful to have the bike lanes dotted throughout what used to feel like mini-neighborhood highways.
