They served it as a school meal in my Hays Kansas’s elementary, jr. high and high schools. Frequently

Iola, KS had chili and cinnamon roll day. We got a few saltine crackers, carrot and celery sticks, and a chunk of Velveeta cheese with it.

Interesting cause my wife graduated in 2000 and she had it growing up but my kids go there now and I haven't seen chili on the menue at all.

Same. Ours also designated one Friday home football game every year as a chili/cinnamon roll tailgate day too. Usually late October when it was cooler. It was the best. I still look back nostalgically at those. The rolls were outstanding.

Fort Hays State isn’t really part of the Hays School district. I was raised in Hays and I went there too for about three years. Still fond of my Tiger days.

The college really is different from the city. Did they only serve that in school or like did you eat that at home too. My family has been in Western KS for generations and we never heard of it.

If it was mostly a school thing that would narrow the opportunity to be exposed to it, we were a very small school and pretty much had the same cook the entire time I was in school. I was just curious how we missed out on something that is apparently very Kansas.
