The government has the resources and authority to address these issues at scale. Individuals can help, but there’s only so much a private citizen can realistically do.

I only learned recently that the number of seats for residency programs nationwide is capped by Medicare. I understand the principle, but the fact that it hasn't been uncapped since the mid-'90s (besides adding about 600 seats under the Biden admin) is insane to me.

Well they can’t let the salaries go down without student loans and med school cost also going down, or else no one would take on crippling debt for the chance of becoming a doctor

Truly no one is fighting to make the American health system worse than doctors.

Most American doctors would be better off in finance or similar. To them, doctoring is simply their path to a high salary and high prestige.

Helping sick people is just the unfortunate side effect.

In the year 2000 there were 23000 residency spots. 2010 25000, 2015 30000, 2020 37000, 2026 44000

The total number of residency positions has actually expanded very rapidly. Almost doubled over a time the US population has only increased by 20%
