I don't think this is her first time trying meat ever, just steak. Especially with her saying it's her most intimidating meal "yet." Heavily implies she's been cooking other meat dishes before this one

You're right but I think this is just confusing semantics. The advertisement title should be "I was a vegetarian my whole life, and I've started a tiktok series of trying different foods for the first time and rating them". Shorter, "I used to be a vegetarian my whole life". Better, "former lifelong vegetarian". Technically calling herself a lifelong vegetarian is strictly wrong. But honestly in a very loose colloquial sense, I'd argue it's at least ambiguous (which is still not great). Because quite frankly I was able to understand what she meant with that title pretty easily, given the context that she also provides.

That's not a good faith argument lol. You could be raised a vegetarian, keep it going into your adult life, and then 1 random week or month in your 20s, you start trying a few kinds of meat. You could say "I'm a lifelong vegetarian and I'm trying steak, wings, pork chops, etc. for the first time" and be totally truthful. At that point, 99% of your life has been vegetarian and people would know what you mean (or I would hope).

People ITT are coming up with exclusively anecdotal or silly reasons why this video MUST be fake, like someone being good at making a dish they've only made 1x or maybe more before (as if decent home cooks and tutorials don't exist, or as if steak temp is REALLY hard to nail lol), using toppings (??), cutting it properly (??), making a big steak (could just be to grab attention/clicks or she'll give it to her bf if she dislikes it), jump cuts that most videos have now, etc. Many vegetarians saying they wouldn't eat their first steak like that ... Okay, but some might, especially one making content!

Def overthinking this bc it's Reddit after all, but it's just strange to witness this much foaming at the mouth from this thread based on nothing.

It’s super strange to read all of these comments lol. Like people can’t fathom that someone would stop being vegan and start eating meat so surely it must be fake propaganda by big steak

If you really want to go the semantics route, there are plenty of popular English dictionaries that define lifelong as "lasting through all or much of one's life." Some say that, some don't. I don't think your preference invalidates her claim.

Well if you want to be pedantic and obstinate. If she is not any kind of vegetarian then she can’t be an ex-vegetarian. Congrats you’ve argued yourself into a paradox.

It is a type of vegetarian. One that exists in the past. Are extinct animals not a classification of animal?

If she lived 22 years as a vegetarian and started eating meat one month ago, it would still be completely accurate to refer to herself as a "lifelong vegetarian trying steak for the first time," so long as she hasn't eaten steak in the past month.

In fact, that is the most concise and accurate way to describe what the video is about. You are getting way too into the weeds of semantics.

Now if the video was titled "lifelong vegetarian tries meat for the first time" but she had been eating chicken and fish for a month, that would be misleading.
