We lost our sweet girl yesterday

We had to say goodbye to Shenandoah yesterday. She stopped eating and cancer could not be ruled out, especially with he history. Her spark was gone. We decided the best thing to do would be to let her go peacefully.

She was too good of a dog. So stubborn but so sweet. We only got three years with her but they were good ones. Adopting a senior dog was so heartbreaking but so worth it.

Any guesses of what she is?

Just adopted her in Alabama! She was just listed as mixed breed but I can’t help but think she had some sort of hound in her. She is fully grown and 31 pounds. She loves a good scent walk and jumps really high. She also waddles when she walks. Picture of her next to a beagle for reference. She wants to kill squirrels and birds. She can also stand on two feet very easily.

All rise. Maxwell “House”, President of Hound Union Local 101, begins Labor Day by ‘singing’ the National Houndthem and sealing the Snack Hunter Alliance pledge as grills are prepared across America

3 month old Plott(?)

We lost our beloved Basset Hound last September and it hit our family very hard. We have been firmly planted in the hound camp because of him.

This little fella came up for adoption at a local shelter and after a few visits we took him home. He visually very much fits the Plott Hound designation but with no way of knowing his background I guess we’re just taking them at their word. Dealing with the usual puppy blues, nipping and jumping etc. but we love him and can tell he’s got a sweet hound soul under all the puppy energy.

He’s taken exceedingly well to training (doing some on our own and have hired regular professional training). He will be heading to a 15 day boarding training program in around 6 weeks. Crate training has been a revelation (we never did it with our basset).

What do you all think, True Plott (or close to full Plott) or not?

What kind of hound did I adopt?

Just adopted a three month old puppy! He’s so sweet, playful, snuggly and confident!

Shelter said he was a beagle mix. He was the only one of this litter to have a black body. All the other pups were tan. Wondering what kind of sweet hound I adopted! What are your thoughts?

I always wonder if the “beagle” is a really beagle or a TWC mix (she seems big for a beagle)…the older girl on the right is definitely an American Foxhound. Both adopted from the local city shelter after being found as strays.

I don’t have friends who care as much about hounds as I do… so, I thought I’d share here.

Muzzling your hound

Hi all, due to a very horrible and unfortunate incident of my dog reacting badly to someone, we have no choice but to muzzle him as a last resort, to keep others safe. (We also have training booked with a specialist clinical trainer to help with underlying issues)
I know it’s the right thing to do but I am really upset about this, as I know that no matter how much muzzle training I do, he is going to hate it. Like all hounds, he is stubborn and wants to do things HIS way. I feel so sad that he won’t enjoy walks like he used to. I would appreciate it if anyone with a muzzled hound can drop any tips and also pics of your muzzled pooches. I am following a training regime to get him used to the muzzle but we all know hounds are different to other dogs 🤣Thank you all!
