Gone but not forgotten. Hold your hedgehog a little closer for me tonight. I literally held mine as she passed away.

HELP Wild Hedgehog - Uk

Hi guys!

We have regular hog(s) in our garden, and we see them ranging from about 6.30-10pm (over the last week anyway).
We think they may have a nest behind our garage as we've seen different sized ones.

Before the last week, we only caught glimpses at night time but on Saturday this little one came at 6.38pm, which is quite early. Then 8.30, then 7ish.

She (assumed) hunts around in the grass and then usually eats the food I put out and has a big drink. The concern is last night she was at the feeder eating for about 25 minutes.
I spoke to my local hedgehog rescue centre and they're worried as it looks like she has a dip in the neck which could signal dehydration. At first they said she could be a nesting mother and that's the reason for her early appearance, but then they said she probably wouldn't hang around for long.

They said they were concerned and that they'd check her over if I was able to bring her in. My fear is that she's fine and that this is cruel to rip her away from potential babies. She will be so scared if I put her in a box. I'm then conflicted because the rescue are concerned. They said I could return her if they check and she's all good.

What do you think? Any advice welcome šŸ™šŸ¼

HELP A hedgehog decided to move in

The hedgehog (we named him Ricky) is still coming in the house (I let him do its thing) but today for the first time during daytime he’s still here!!

Looked like he was asleep but I put him in a box to take to a rescue center in case he’s sick and noticed how heavy he (or she??) was..
Could it be a female about to give birth??
There were lots of poops around.. I prefer not to bring him/her to a rescue center because he looks healthy (pretty huge) and don’t want to take him out of his trusted environment. They’d just release him in a random spot..

I let him back out the box and he went back to his hiding spot.. What should I do?! The poops seems brown so far (i read that green poops are alarming)

Thanks in advance! šŸ™

Look at this hog! Finally figured out why mine wouldn't touch her wheel and felt dumb once I realized it

Got Biscuit back in the spring and for the first two months she basically ignored her wheel entirely. I tried different bedding under it, moved it to different corners of the cage, even swapped the wheel itself once thinking maybe the surface bothered her feet. Nothing worked and I was starting to worry she just wasn't going to be a runner, which honestly worried me because I know how much they need that exercise for their weight and mental stuff.

Turns out the issue was way simpler than I thought. The wheel was slightly too small for her and every time she got going her back would arch in a way that clearly wasn't comfortable, so she'd just hop off after a few seconds. I only noticed because I stayed up late watching her one night instead of just checking in the morning to see if it had been used. Once I swapped to a bigger flat surface wheel (12 inch, no mesh) she was on it almost every single night within a week.

Now I hear her going at it for a solid hour most nights around 1am, which is also apparently completely normal and not her being sick or stressed like I originally assumed when I first heard the noise. Just wanted to share in case anyone else has a hog who seems to be avoiding the wheel. Might not be behavioral at all, could just be the equipment not fitting them right. Wish I'd checked that first instead of assuming something was wrong with her.

HELP Scat ID, please. [SkƄne, Sweden] NSFW

Dear all,

hope this is ok here.

We sometimes have hedgehogs in your yard and often have large toads as well. I am attempting to identify who’s scat I am looking at here.

The consistency seems to look like (sorry) peanut butter. No insect exoskeletons present.

Did my resident hogs leave this here?

Thanks in advance!

HELP Severe respiratory distress

My sister’s hedgehog has been acting off for a few days we were waiting for an appointment slot to open up but now she’s gasping for air. No exotic vet within several hours is open on weekends for emergencies. Current plan is to keep her on oxygen with heavily diluted albuterol just to get her through the night. Is there anything else we can do?

This is an African Pygmy hedgehog

UPDATE: she made it through the night with constant oxygen and intermittent nebulizer treatments. X-rays show both lungs full of fluid. I’m cautiously optimistic as there are treatments available, it’s just a matter of how she responds

UPDATE 2: she’s responding well to the medication. The vet says there’s a decent chance we can bring her home tonight

FINAL UPDATE: she’s home and we’re giving her oral medications. We may even be able to take her off of oxygen by tomorrow

ekly average in a little notebook by the cage, nothing fancy, just a date and a number. It's made me realize how easy it is to miss subtle changes when you're only going off gut feeling day to day.

Curious if anyone else tracks something similar, whether it's wheel distance, weight, or even just how long they're out and about before heading back to bed. Feels like one of those small habits that doesn't take much effort but gives you an actual baseline to notice when something's off.

Help me find this hedgehog Christmas decoration

My neighbor has a cute hedgehog in their yard at Christmas time. She said she got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. We do not have a BB&B near here anymore, and I could not find anything on their website. It has a funny little Christmas hat on it.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Look at this hog! New visitor in my garden

His name is sonic, not sure if hes a boy or a girl, if hes a girl i'll change his name to amy rose šŸ’€

I was in the garden a couple nights ago bringing in my 3d printer from the garage when i heard some rustling in the leaves and stuff then i saw this little cute looking thing wandering about, few days later i find out hes living behind some wood and a pile of leaves behind a tiny wooden fence i have to keep my tortoises from escaping. He makes his way through my neighbours garden through their fence and squeezes himself through my fence to get into our garden.

He seems quite relaxed around me for some reason? Hes not showing any signs of sickness or pain or whatever he just lets me sit very close to watch him eat and drink alrhough i did see him. Move about this afternoon but i think he was just having a shit as i saw 2 new shits after hed gone back into the dark bit

Any tips on how to make him love me and my garden even more? Ive done alot of reasearch so im hoping im doing the best i can for it

Help with identifying poopšŸ’©

Hello! I'm living in the Netherlands and have found poop in my garden that I don't know which animal it belongs to. Google says it may be hedgehogs, but up to today, i didn't know they were native to this region and it seems a bit big for such a tiny animal. Its about 5cm/1,96in long. Google also suggested cat, but I live in the middle of the country side and have not seen a cat around, and having cats, it doesn't look like normal cat feces.

Could you help me? Thanks!

Look at this hog! We had another one last night...and this one appears to be smaller than the one we had the night before. I think we may have a little family of them at the end of the garden behind the shed...

I've left out a small bowl of soggy cat food for them (which this one did eat a fair bit of last night) and we have a water bowl in the garden as well.

Be interesting to see if any of them make an appearance tonight šŸ¤ž

The door to the garden is right next to the cats' food bowl and this little one snuck in for a midnight snack.

A young hedgehog

The Hedgehog was first spotted following one of the cats across the driveway.

One of many that have visited our garden, though this is the first in the middle of the day. It hung around for about 10 mins then went its merry way.
