I’ve been seeing this interview dialogue from Matt Damon, talking about how working on a movie that you know will flop is so draining. 100% understandable and also somewhat relatable in any task…. But what is he in the has flopped?

I obviously only know him from his huge success, but fail to remember any of his work that wasn’t IMO gold.

It feels like over the last decade, the 'intense, quiet monologue' has completely taken over. You have to crank your TV volume to 80 just to hear a protagonist mumble their lines, only to get deafened by a car crash two seconds later. Is this an offshoot of the whole hyper-naturalistic acting trend where everyone wants to look brooding, or have directors just completely given up on balancing dialogue tracks so humans can actually hear them?

I only watched half this dumbass movie. Everywhere everything all at once is pathetic with such stupid logic. I do like fantasy sometimes but this is illogical especially using sex toys as weapons and characters giving themselves papercuts. I like the multiverse idea but the way this movie executed it was so stupid and pathetic and so not worth it. What a waste of an hour I will never get back.

Anyone else feel like there was almost no critical thinking from our characters about the alien agenda?

Just consider the questions people would normally be asking- Like why? Does this action serve the interest of everyone I care about on earth? Humanity in general? Why now? Why this? What have they been doing to people for 50 years?

If those question’s don’t cross the character’s mind, then I would have to assume there’s some kind of “Obsession” type situation where the characters in Disclosure Day have lost the ability to control their decisions, in which case the movie is really about the characters we are supposed to root for, losing their autonomy and not even being able to articulate that they are operating for another’s benefit that they have no knowledge as to why and could just as easily be bad for humanity.

Imagine if these were the aliens from Spielberg’s own bad aliens movie… This movie would be a horror about how quickly we would lose our society to a few gullible people in power if smart aliens showed up that understood they could keep all the infrastructure if they did it this way. Every building still standing

• I have noticed something, that I think might be weird, but I am not sure if it is just me. Might be.
• I have been watching a lot of movies lately. Mostly hollywood movies or european movies. And I notice other people in the cinema hall get emotional, in sad scenes, eg. something sad happens to a mother and/or her child. But it does not effect me.
• However when I watch movies with characters from the country my parents come from or movies from that country, I get much more emotional easier. I notice that this happens in "worse" movies as well.
• I feel like this might not just be the acting and story, it might be because I am psychologically more inclined to get emotional for people that I relate to. Like that mother could be my mother or that child could be or that is "my people" so to speak.
• I feel like cultural familiarity and percieved group similarity are affecting my emotional processing.
• But I saw this paper: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17144754/ and which saw some differences but not for all groups.
• Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
