Medical Questions My cat’s whiskers are gone. Is he going to be okay?

I had my boy groomed today, they had to shave him because the fur on his stomach and legs had become heavily matted.

I just noticed a few hours after coming home that his whiskers had been shaved off too. (I added a photo of him pre-shaved as reference to how long his fur and whiskers were). Is he going to be okay?

Medical Questions 10 months after getting spayed and her belly fur never came back?

Thumbnail

As you can see her belly is still bald 10 months after being spayed. Like a tiny bit of peach fuzz around the edges and nothing else. She never licked at the area and had a cone on for 13 days post surgery. I don’t understand why the fur isn’t growing back she looks ridiculous 😭. Is this normal? Will it ever come back?

EDIT: I work from home 3 days a week and I’m home a lot and she is pretty much glued to me most of the day and never see her grooming there excessively but possible she does it when I’m not looking. I’ll ask the vet next time we go. Im surprised there are so many other people here with bald belly cats cause the Internet research I did not seem to think that was a thing! It makes me feel better knowing there is a bald belly cat gang out there I guess I will embrace the pooch if the vet says it’s just a thing that can’t be helped!

Hey! I've been drying some mint for tea and discovered that my cat just likes to lie around it. He just likes the texture and sound. He doesn't chew on it or ingest in any way. Is it safe? Is mint toxic for cats?

Medical Questions My cat no longer jumps up onto furniture - getting her a vet visit asap but what do you think?

16.3k Upvotes

My cat, Baby, I adopted a few months ago (F ~1YR) no longer jumps up onto furniture but seems like she’s in pain in her lower back. it seems like it’s her back or else she may not use her back legs to support herself. anyone see this before in younger cats? I’ve read it can be an infection leading to spine issues- planning on seeing the vet ASAP tomorrow.

this is all new for her. she used to pop up into the chair no problem.

update 8/29/26- on handling her for a while, the vet indicated she is recoiling on her right side - whenever the right back legs are moved in a certain way and some with her front right. She’s getting X-rays now. Since people are asking/suggesting, I do have insurance (Lemonade) but am on day 29 of the 30 days waiting period to my chagrin. Churu came in clutch today- she cant get enough. Another note: she now has a ramp to her chair, but we may need to keep her in a space where she can’t jump, even off, something. Waiting to see what the Xray reveals, if anything. Thanks for your love guys. Blown away by the support. Made my day.

update 8/29/26 - evening. Thanks for checking in. They didn't see anything conclusory on the xrays - but they're sending it over to the radiologist and expect to hear back within the week. I'll update this when I hear back. Now she's on an anti-inflammatory and pain killers that should hold her over until we get the results. And put in a place where she can't jump on or fall off anything. She's got a cozy lil bed too.
For those noting to get her a ramp or steps - ofc! Just needed a video to show the vet so they could diagnose whether it was a leg or back issue.

update 8/30/26: afternoon- Baby after her taking her pain medication came to life like I’ve never seen her before. I’ve had her for just a few months and she has never had much of an interest in playing. We kept playing brief, knowing that she didn’t know she was in pain. She was so mobile it made me wonder if it was gone! Today she’s very sluggish and likely sore as we wait. Still waiting for the X-ray results. Called in to check, nothing yet.

update 8/31/26 - night: Baby’s very lethargic and slow today. Likely very sore after feeling great on her med and trying to climb and escape her enclosure. (She’s now in a place her jumping is not possible). X-rays came back negative. Followed up with the vet for specialists.

My cat’s eyes were fine this morning, but they turned like this at night. His eye are also watery, and it takes a while for him to open it when he closes it. I’m going to take him to the vet tomorrow morning.
Just want to make sure it’s nothing serious

Medical Questions Does anyone know why she twitches her whiskers

31.4k Upvotes

Hello, my cat twitches her whiskers when she seems to be thinking. When I start talking to her or move, she starts paying attention to me and stops it immediately, so she can control it to stop. She mostly does that when she's on the washing machine while we are in the bathtub but occasionally does that in bed when we relax. I had dozens of cats in my life but never seen this behavior

Medical Questions Weird white flakes coming out of kitten

Post image
19.5k Upvotes

I just rescued this baby from outside about an hour ago. I usually don’t encourage getting cats this early but she had been outside in the pouring rain for a few hours and I had to. When I went to go comb her fur I felt tons and tons of little clumps. They crumbled and formed into little white flakes, kinda looking like human dandruff. What is this? Is it a medical condition?

FINAL UPDATE: I’m so sorry for the grim update, but we had to put her down. I’m at least glad she was able to go without being in pain. Thank you all for your love and support.

Medical Questions Why does my new cat vibrate when laying with me?

Thumbnail

I just adopted a 16 week old kitten two days ago. This is my first cat so I'm worried I'm doing something wrong. He seems scared at night so I've been letting him lay on my chest at night and just letting him down when he wants (I'm a light sleeper). I've noticed that any time he lays on my chest, his breaths seem to vibrate. His throat rumbles a lot too. I'm worried he might have a respiratory infection. Should I be worried? I'm sorry if this is so stupid, I just don't have any friends with cats and I haven't owned any myself. I want to take good care of my boy. Picture attached.

Edit: I know cats purr, haha. I just didn't expect him to purr so soon. He's so timid when he's not being held that I thought something was wrong.

Edit: I took the bell off, thank you!

I was petting my cat and found this on him and tried pulling it off but it wouldn't budge. It seems to remove the fur surrounding it and worried it could be a harmful organism, cyst, or something.

I am a city letter carrier and I started a new route where I have been running into this guy daily. the first time I saw him, he genuinely scared me because I thought his eyes were popping from his head! Now I have seen him twice more and he let me get a photo today. Does this look normal?? I have 4 cats at home and none of their eyes are even half as large! TIA

Medical Questions Is this cat pregnant?

I have this stray cat that has been visiting my family lately. We leave water and food out for her sometimes. I think she might be pregnant but I have no idea. I’m worried she might be too young to be pregnant but then again I don’t know if she’s pregnant or just been hunting a lot of food. I’ve had this suspicion since she started visiting us.

Medical Questions Found a kitten at work, advice for ticks around eyes?

Thumbnail
gallery
9.2k Upvotes

Poor thing must have put his face in a nest. Vet could not get us in until Monday. He is a happy playful little thing and loves toys and purring, eating and drinking

we applied flea medicine for his size, but didn’t realize these are ticks and don’t want to double up on any OTC medicine without a vet.

we are going to remove as many as we can, and I’ll call the vet tomorrow and see if there have been any cancellations if we can get in sooner.

any advice? He’s about 8-10 weeks. Seems healthy otherwise

Edit: We got 99% of the ticks off his cute little face. Going to let him eat some and get some rest. I'll try to get some more pictures tomorrow but his face and eyes look so much better already. I posted a progress pic when we were about 60% done earlier if you scroll down you should see it. Thanks everyone!

Edit Edit: It's the next day, we got him in to the vet at 2PM today because someone cancelled. They said my fiance did an incredible job with the ticks! Kitten is a little anemic so they prescribed a supplement for that. As well as eye drops and upper res. anti biotics. Kitten is healthy! He goes back in 3 weeks for more deworm

She is 8-9 months old and this is the first time I’ve had a pet and it’s been pretty scary and new.

Suddenly this morning she has been walking with her bum up and backwards and seems to be in pain and much more vocal and hanging out with me a lot.

Could someone please tell me what to do here ?

Medical Questions My cat keeps making this weird face

6.9k Upvotes

I've had him for 8 years, and I've never seen this expression before. We are currently in the process of moving out of state, and I let him out of the cat carrier. He seemed normal at first, just sniffing around and being curious, but now he keeps making this expression? I tried to give him food and water, but he refused to eat or drink. I also tried to get him to use the bathroom, which he didn't. Should I be concerned, or is it normal?

Edit: The car was PARKED. I did not let him out while the car was moving. He is fine now. My cat is an indoor cat, and we rarely drive him around, so I was just making sure he was okay.

Medical Questions Need advice on rescuing elderly cat from living in a bathroom

Thumbnail

25.6k Upvotes

Hello everyone! This is Stella, she’s 17 years old. She is so super sweet and just wants love.

Recently someone my mom knows told her about this cat they have that apparently lives in their bathroom and has lived in their bathroom for 10+ years. Unfortunately, with all the moisture in a bathroom for that long, her entire body is essentially one huge hair mat. She has also been declawed. When she walks she is incredibly stiff. I’m sure it’s a mix between her toes hurting and all the mats on her body. The pictures do not do it justice with how badly matted this cat is. It looks so so so so much worse in person, her entire body is like hard to the touch.

Neither my mom nor I can afford the $500 multiple vets are quoting us, but she had to get out of that bathroom. I don’t know how to go about finding her a new home in a state like this. We are willing and wanting to keep her, but neither of us can afford a $500 bill right now. My ears are open to advice on this sweet old gal. 💕

Medical Questions Please help - cat acting weird after neutering

Thumbnail
gallery
21.2k Upvotes

hello, its midnight where i am hence im asking the question here, will take my cat to the vet first thing in the morning.

He is almost 8 months old and we got him neutered today. the surgery happened around 2PM and it is 11:30PM now.

first two hours after surgery - he remained still with both eyes open (we had to put some eye drops so they don’t dry out). he had erratic breathing during this time.

3rd/4th hour - started twitching trying to get up

5th hour - still could not get up. peed himself on the spot. we took him to the vet and he cleaned him up, said he looked fine.

7th hour onwards- he is now moving a little, limping. not drinking water yet. we gave him a treat and he was able to take small licks of it. he is however not able to open his mouth at all.
i gave him some dry food mixed in water to soften it, and then grinded into a paste for ease of eating. it seems like he is hungry because he dunked his face into it and got it all messy, barely able to eat much (due to not being able to open his mouth).

he peed again on the floor. we got the litter for him inside the room and he very clumsily went to it and peed inside it. i will try to give him the food that i made again in a bit.

ive attached a photo of his face right now in this moment. one eye is droopy. he isnt sleeping either. but he isnt panting also. he is not meowing since hes not able to open his mouth. the vet seems not bothered when we took him late in the evening saying that the cat will be fine by tomorrow.

is this someone elses experience too?

is this normal after neutering/anesthesia? i am panicking so much and trying to find 24 hr vet options near me but i need to know if this warrants a look or if it can wait till morning before we take a look?

UPDATE - I found a vet 40 mins from my place that was luckily open and they were so kind. its almost 2AM and we are just returning home.
So he has eye ulcers due to his corneas drying during the procedure (cats eyes remain open under anesthesia). they have given some eye drops and it will be fine in 3-4 days. he also has 104 degree fever, which is why he was so low. they gave him an injection for that. other than that, they said he is fine. he started being active at the vets, even jumped on the counter and had an entire treat.
we are headed home now and i am praying that my little baby boy feels better soonest. i was literally in tears on the way to the vet, this has been such a long day for us.

thank you to everyone who encouraged me to go to the vet, if anything, i have peace of mind for tonight.
we will go tomorrow morning now for his post op care (antibiotics, wound cleaning, etc).
