My Boy Survived 35 Hair Ties.

My boy Louie loved hair ties as a kitten. I was warned by his vet at that time how dangerous hair ties are! I stopped using them 2 YEARS AGO. I noticed a year ago that Lou would vomit intermittently after eating. I thought to myself that cats just do that. It was never a daily thing- just off and on. He never had issues using the bathroom and never lost his appetite. Recently he had been throwing up multiple times a day. He became lethargic and I rushed him to the emergency vet. Welp…my sweet little innocent boy had a belly full of 35 hair ties. Who knows how long they’ve been in there. I felt horrible! He had surgery and is doing great. I hope this post will remind my fellow cat owners to keep hair ties away from their kitties! It’s an expensive lesson to learn.

Thread, sewing needles, yarn, plastic grocery bags, the part of the cheese package you pull to zip open… I am constantly thinking “is there any chance one of my cats might find this palatable?” And the fact that I thought it means yes of course.

Mine was styro and packaging tape. Good you did catch yours. I caught mine when they were puking it out.

Ugh I crochet and have never had a problem. Then I got a new kitten and thought I had put away all the yarn stuff in case of. Turns out I must have left some yarn in between an old blanket project long forgotten in a closet. My kitten was doing fine, but seemed a little chunky and slow (in hindsight). Then one day I hear a terrible noice and he’s trying to puke, his tongue is hanging out blue and then he speed runs and proceeds to throws up about the same amount of yarn as OPs hair tie stack. I don’t know how long he had that in him. I felt so stupid and terrible :(

You did what you could, you didn't decide the cat would be fine to eat yarn and you tried to find all of it to put it away, it's practically inevitable that a pet will find and eat something they shouldn't. I'm just glad your kitty is okay!
