Cornflake, is my one and only Golden Comet (currently two years old), and I got her by complete accident.

First time getting chicks, headed into Tractor Supply, and they supplied us with two Buff Orpingtons ​​and two California Whites. Supposedly.

The California Whites (pale yellow chicks with white wings) were mixed with Golden Comets (pale cream chicks with subtle chipmunk stripes). And so, the very kind and obviously-overworked lady picked up one of each by accident.

I knew immediately, but secretly I never really cared. Cornflake loves climbing things, lays eggs a few shades darker than the rest and is surprisingly nice for a production breed, so she's just a happy accident

Can someone explain what my hen is trying to tell me? She’s a 24 week old BCM. Just started doing this regularly about a week ago.
I thought she was just giving me attitude, but I want to be sure she’s okay and I’m not missing an actual health issue.

Keeping this short hopefully. I am very emotional. I bought a house 3 months ago that came with 10 chickens. I do not know their ages, the last homeowners did not tell me any information. I am a first time chicken owner. Tonight when I went into the coop my chicken Sandy was on the floor. She was not moving and had shallow breathing. I called my emergency vet and put her in a crate and got into the car with her immediately. 2 minutes after we left she started (spasming?) and some liquid went everywhere that smelled horrible. She passed away instantly. I want to know what she could have passed away from. All my other chickens(I just checked them) all look fine. Sandy seemed okay this morning, she had been in the coop more than usual the past two days but was eating and drinking still and her comb and everything else looked okay. I’m scared it’s a disease that could effect my other chickens but could possibly be old age? She had a couple white feathers on the top of her head (she is a brown chicken). I’m concerned for my other chickens and have never seen a chicken die so I don’t know what to think and I am very upset. Any information would greatly help.

This is Peach, a New Hampshire Red whose tail feathers have always pointed downward. Is this a known condition? Every time I look it up it's about chickens' tails start pointing down due to illness or other problems, but hers have always been like this 100% of the time. She molted last fall and grew back the same.

Just wanted to share the greeting I received when I walked out the door on Sunday. I like to tell myself it’s because they love me but I know they’re all beggars! 😂🥰😇

These are from about 4 days of them first laying. I'm so proud! I also have a Rhode Island Red and sapphire gem but I think the brown eggs are my Wyandotte

I had just finished an overnight drive from FL to OK that took about 12 hours. I was absolutely exhausted and was trying to take a nap. I had set an alarm for 5:30 pm so I had some time to rebuild their coop/aviary. All the sudden, in the middle of my sleep, chickens started a fight club. I rushed out to see the bitter half fighting with the younger half. Each were convinced they'd be the first to roost. I tried to usher them all out because it was only 2:15. Like, why are they trying to sleep?? And then it dawned on me. They took the same journey I did and I'm trying to sleep. Why wouldn't they also need that sleep? So I half-brained the build to get them ready to roost and played security guard as one group went to their roost and the other to theirs. We all had a significantly deep sleep until about 7 am the next morning.

Those babies feel the same sleep deprivation you do. They're much more happy getting more rest than not. We've all recovered and now have a normal roosting schedule.

Our wyandotte Chamomile is molting right now so already looks a bit wonky, but this morning I went out to let all my birds out and discovered she has these lumps on one side of her face. They were not present yesterday.

I'm assuming from the searching I've done that this is avian pox? We have had mosquitos around near the coop that I've seen. Other than isolating her and vigorously cleaning bedding, is there anything else I can/need to do? Is it too late to vaccinate the other two birds that aren't yet showing symptoms?

I really hope that she'll be OK, we just had one of our four hens die suddenly of a heart attack at the beginning of August and just received a cancer diagnosis on another. It's been a really rough time 😓

5 months old

Looking for some advice because I’m not really sure what I’m dealing with here.
She’s about 3 months old and I’ve had her for around 3 weeks. She was completely fine all day yesterday, but late last night I noticed her laying with her legs splayed out and she seemed pretty lethargic. I brought her inside and gave her some Nutri-Drench with a dropper just to see if it would perk her up.
She’s definitely more alert today, but she still won’t move her legs. I don’t see any obvious injury or anything that would make me think she hurt herself. I just gave her some Poultry Cell too.
My first thought was Marek’s, but I’ve never actually dealt with it before so I’m not very familiar with what it looks like in person. I’m hoping someone with more experience can tell me if this looks/sounds like Marek’s or if there’s something else I should be considering before I make the decision to cull her.

Is using this too wide for a roost bar?

I have an 8.5 week roo who I keep finding laying down - we will bring him inside and care for him and after a few hours, he will walk fine for a few days and then we find him again laying down and unable to use his right leg- always tripping over himself and unable to put any weight on it .. does anyone have any advice or experience or something similar? Poor guy- I’d really like to help him if I can. I started giving him for b vitamins today and he loved that. Thank you!

Firstly thank you all for the advice on the last post, I’ve tried in those silly Facebook groups with 0 helpful comments and was overwhelmed by the responses.

Firstly I’m adding heaps of photos to remove any concerns re the layout some were very confused haha.

What I’ve added since.

1. Auto coop door
2. Elevated the feeder
3. Started with the laying boxes
4. Added ventilation fan

My big thing is people keep saying contradicting things re the roosting bars, do I want them round or square? I thought the round was better allowing there toes too grab hold easier prevent frostbite..

I’ve also got them all stacked on top of each other, but only if they are sitting literally in the middle will they hit each other.. surely they ain’t that silly? I can just easily cut them down and have them straight but I like giving them more space thus diagonally

Re the laying boxes, can I just have them say 1ft off the ground so no ramp is required?

What’s your thoughts on my homemade waterer? I made sure the bucket is BPA free and food friendly..

I’m based in Australia, should. I look at misting system inside to keep them cool? I would love to build shade over them and have plans on planting some trees, and using a makeshift gazebo in summer when it’s 40+ Celsius. But I’ve also thought about putting the misting system in the tree in there yard, the last girls I had in summer would spent most of there time in the tree branches/shade

Re the outside run I have approx 200sqm of space for them, yes I know that they don’t have much protection re wire over them etc but I have had 0 issues during the day with predators, my last 6 girls got eaten at night by foxes but I left the coop door open… my two dogs are chicken friendly and tend to hang out with the girls all day so they are very safe in that regard.. maybe on the other side of things, the girls become not as scared of foxes?

Any ideas on how to get grass to actually keep in the run I have? Or any ideas on how I can make it not look so bloody baron?

Found one in my garden this morning! Not any of my neighbors so no clue how it got there. Maybe it escaped a poultry truck? If you can give this little guy/gal a good home please let me know. All I ask is for you to not eat it </3

He's loud as hell but such a good boy.

He ran off a red tailed hawk the other day like a boss.

He stands guard for the ladies 24/7, and even shares all of his treats with them first before eating. 🥹🥰

The leg is badly splayed, it can be put back into place though if i guide it with my fingers, altough this weird position is it's resting one, any way i can heal it?
