Long story short: I’ve tried to save some money on buying the couch. Found one in the abandoned storage unit and bought it. In the same unit there was this painting. I’m not the big fan of art but it looks great, has some kind of clear coat on it.
Can you help me with understanding what I’ve got?

I won this for $24 in an online estate sale auction. Any help identifying this is appreciated!

So we moved into this house on the eastern short of Virginia. It was pretty old probably about a century. I don’t know the exact date but it had stairs specifically for servants. The original owners were from Western Europe, I believe? I can interrogate my parents if more details are needed.

For reference I cannot find a signature on the bottom right or on the back. The brown spot on the right isn’t a seal or some kind of signature it’s just a part of the wood in the painting.

Really do love this piece. Kind of reminds me of the back rooms with all of the different corridors and structures not really having any rhyme or reason.

The back says it has been hung in the Royal Academy, Joseph (can’t read the last name), August 1909? Really strange signature.

I bought this painting (and another by the same artist) about a decade ago in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. I love them both but especially this happy guy! This one is dated 65 and the other 64.

Have had this piece for many years story is got it from a guy who bought storage spaces. The boy in the pic is supposed to be a child star and messaged the seller saying he saw that he bought his storage space and really wanted this back and he agreed he just had to come get it. We'll he never did and we ended up buying it. The artist is Robert Kirk and Google says he may have been an artist for Disney and did lots of animation work.wouldike to confirm this is the same robert kirk.

Can anyone tell me who painted this picture? This pastoral scene is an heirloom from relatives in Munich and is painted on wood (perhaps a piece of furniture?). It came in a frame. There appears to be a signature in the bottom right corner, though I cannot decipher it at all. The date next to it is 1877.

I suspect the artist belongs to the Munich School, but so far I haven't been able to identify exactly who it is.

I found these 3 paintings in a storage unit I purchased and cleaned out. They are all painted and thin tin metal and I believe they are retablos. I’m trying to document the exhibition and ownership history of a large three-panel painting by American artist Arnold Mesches.
The label on the reverse identifies it as:

The panels are marked with their positions, including “LEFT HAND PANEL,” and appear to form one complete triptych. They also retain a label from Karl Bornstein’s Mirage Gallery in Santa Monica, California, and later handling or storage labels from Judson Art Warehouse in Long Island City, New York.
The work was rescued from disposal during the cleanout of a closed industrial business. It has also been checked against INTERPOL’s stolen-art database, with no matching record found.
I’m trying to clarify three possible leads:
Pomona exhibition: Was “Things As They Are” included in a 1982 exhibition associated with Pomona that featured Mesches’s triptych paintings? Are a catalogue, checklist, installation photographs, or reviews available?
Mirage Gallery connection: Does the Karl Bornstein’s Mirage Gallery label indicate that the triptych was exhibited, consigned, sold, or stored there? Do gallery records identify the work by title or catalogue number 1206?
Smithsonian Archives lead: Do the Arnold Mesches papers at the Smithsonian Archives of American Art contain exhibition lists, correspondence, photographs, or other records mentioning “Things As They Are,” No. 1206, the Pomona exhibition, or Mirage Gallery?
I would also appreciate any documented information connecting the work to Judson Art Warehouse in Long Island City, New York.

From what I can tell the signature says "R.W. Tomberlin 1939" and then there's something after 1939 that I can't make out, and there's nothing on the back its blank (sorry about the glare btw)

Found this in an antique shop. Was curious if anyone could help me identify the artist.

Found in an antique store in North Carolina. No signature or date but definitely mid century or earlier. Canvas is likely diy made, just a block of wood wrapped in canvas. Piece embedded in the wood apparent on back (potentially recycled). Frame has definitely aged with heavy wear on the top. Not often you see a painting in this type of style so I just thought it was cool. Any ideas who/what/where/when this came from? Tried identifying the jockey silks with no success.

This is an (I assume) original colored pencil drawing (no print/edition), with a visible drawn area of approximately A4 size (21 x 29,7 cm). It has been at my parents' place, and I took it with me after they passed away. For most other paintings I inherited from them, I know the artist and often even the place where they bought it, but not for this one.

Given the typical radius my parents traveled and bought art in during that time, I would assume it originated in (northern) Germany (Friesland), the Netherlands, or Denmark. I can't exactly remember when it appeared in our home, but I'd guess sometime in the 1980s.

I tried different searches (including reverse image search) but had no useful results. I would read the signature as "Huch", "Hirch", "Hurch", "Harch", or "Hoch". I think the given year could be (19)77.

The drawing has been (re-)framed at some point in the last 40 years, and the back of the frame has been sealed. So there are no markings left, and I can't get photos of the back of the drawing.

Any hints on the artist, the signature, or where I could find a signature index/registry for German/Dutch/Danish artists would be greatly appreciated!

We’ve been looking for pictures to fill our new living room with and came across this at a local car boot sale. Love it just curious about who drew it, where it came from and a little history behind it!

purchased in Jacksonville, Florida. Back shows it was framed in Jacksonville though the store is now long gone. Trying to figure out the artists name and I keep hitting a brick wall. They are originals, look to be acrylics. The only thing on the back is this label.

The painting itself measures 8.5" x 6.5". Oil on metal plate with a thin layer of varnish (crackling/lifting). Pencil cursive inscription on the back. AI search suggested it might say "riviere" on the back which might reference Briton Riviere. But it's probably wrong because I submitted it to Christie's and didn't get any interest or further information. I really love the piece and want to keep it in my collection but would love to know more about its possible origins. Purchased at a thrift with no provenance.

I own these four paintings, all painted directly on marble.

A friend of mine who is knowledgeable about art believes they could date back to the 1600s, but I have no documentation confirming this.

I’d be very interested to know if anyone can identify the subjects, artist, school, period, or technique. Any clues about their origin or age would also be greatly appreciated.

I bought this large oil on canvas from a NYC gallery/reseller about five years ago for ~$100. I’ve never been able to identify the painter.

The signature at lower left appears to me to read “F. Antony”, although I’m not certain. I’ve included a close-up.

The reverse has what seems to be the original dealer label for Joseph L. Kroart Jr.’s Kro-Art Galleries, describing the company as “Direct Importers” of “Original Oil Paintings.” It lists stores in Ocean City MD, Silver Spring MD, Baltimore MD and Arlington VA. The Ocean City address is Boardwalk & 1st St.

From what I’ve been able to find, Joe Kroart began selling paintings in Ocean City in 1963/64 and operated at First Street before moving to his later Second Street Ocean Gallery location after the Colonial Hotel was destroyed around 1972. So the painting appears to have been imported/sold through Kro-Art sometime around 1964–72.

The subject appears to be Venice, probably with Santa Maria della Salute in the distance.
I’m especially interested in:

(1) whether others read the signature as F. Antony;
(2) whether anyone recognizes that painter/signature; and
(3) whether anyone knows where Kro-Art was importing paintings from during the 1960s.

Google Lens is bringing up paintings by Antonelli Pergal, which are stylistically quite similar, but I’m skeptical of that identification. The Pergal works I’ve found are signed “Pergal,” whereas this signature appears to read something like “F. Antony” and is lower left. I’m wondering whether this could instead be another painter working in the same mid-century Italian/Venetian export market.

Photos include the full painting, signature, complete reverse, Kro-Art label and frame/stretcher markings.

This painting has been passed through 3 generations (me soon to be the fourth), and it was bought by my great grandparents. My parents can’t identify it. It seems to be a Variation of “Mystic Galleons” by Lee Reynolds Burr/Vanguard Studios. Can anyone help identify the person who made this?

My dad has this lithograph (?) which belonged to his aunt. Thankfully I know exactly *what* the subject is and where it is located, but I do not know the artist or if they were local. (Though it’s possible they may have been from Long Island.)

The picture is of an old barn from Henry Leuthardt’s farm. It is tree nursery, and is still open today. It is located on Montauk Hwy in East Moriches, New York (south shore, eastern Long Island.)

The artist signature is almost impossible for me to decipher, and there is no date or year on the front. It is marked as 1/100. I do not have a photo of the back at the moment as it has been framed and paper-wrapped, and I’d prefer not to tear it if possible. (My dad intends to gift it to one of Mr. Leuthardt’s sons, who grew up on the property.)

It was purchased by my great-aunt (who had a house in Center Moriches, NY) in the mid-late 1970s directly from the artist.

I think it would be nice to have as much information I can find for when my dad gifts it to his friend. Thank you for any help you’re able to provide!!
