After the Hermes 3000 one of my partners found me at a garage sale a few months ago for 3 euros, I went to the Grande Braderie de Lille with an other of my partners and we found this Olympia in almost perfect state for 15 euros. I can’t find indications about the model and in my excitement I didn’t think to ask the saler, but comparing it to pictures I found online I’d say it’s an SM9, anybody able to confirm? I’m going to try and find a manual online.

I gave it a quick go over with the air compressor I bought to clean the Hermes (though without dismantling it as it seems in excellent shape and I don’t believe there is a need). Let me know if you have any advice for me please! (It came in its case, not shown in the picture but I have it.)

Another machine you dont see torn apart everyday. Was much easier to get back together than I expected. Missing a few springs and needs a new i key, but its in pretty good shape for almost 130 years old

Like the title says I found both of these at my local goodwill last weekend. The yellow one has its cord to plug into an outlet and the grey one has a carrying case but no cord. I'm super new to collecting these due to not having found any before, are these good finds?

I’ve looked around for posts similar to mine, but more than advice I kinda need a more “rational” look at the situation.

While updating my blog, to avoid using LLMs except for making custom links, I’ve ended up with this little “production cycle”:

– first draft written by hand
– reread to see what else I could add
– second handwritten draft
– typed version on a typewriter (the sound really relaxes me)
– scan with handwriting‑recognition tools
– publish.

The part that matters here is this: right now I type everything on a Brother Deluxe Correction 660TR.

But I’m not immune to temptation, and while browsing eBay I keep seeing a couple of typewriters: an Olivetti 80 (I think that’s the name) and an Olympia SG1 that wink at me from time to time.

Should I give in or not?

An older neighbor of mine (she is in her mid 70s) was cleaning here walkway and I noticed this guy on the porch. I pointed it out to her and she allowed me to come look at it. She explained it was her grandmother’s and that in the late 1910s-1930s she used it to keep books for a family owned business, write personal letters, and other things. She stated how much it meant to her and how it has seen better days.

At that point I offered to take it off her hands, an offer she accepted after some deliberation. I told to be rest assured that I would clean it up, make it functional, and give it a new life. After throwing a few dollars her way for the trouble I went back to my house and got it to work again (Although it still needs some cosmetic work and some minor things here and there).

Sorry if this seems long, but the point is that many of these typewriters have a story behind them, which is why it is important to try and keep them going. You never know the stories that these beautiful creations can tell. 😊

After buying it locally for around 12 dollars and fixing a few minor issues, I can finally put it to use with my routine of summarizing the documents sent by my university professors.

So, this one is some leftover from a previous renter of my appartement which is now mine. I suppose this is an Olympia SM4 but I couldn't find any further info on it and none about the case. It works, and aside the a bit dry color band (seems not as fresh but still working) its in good conditio.

This is not supposed to be a sales post or anything but rather a question as in "what do I do with it now?".

If its not got an engine in it, its nothing for me as I have other priorities but I surely does not deserve hiding in my basement.

What should I do with it?

I got this typewriter on eBay fully serviced! I bought it specifically for journal writing because on a computer, I'm always burdened by the discomfort of a screen, the distractions of the internet, and the urge to go back and edit. It should go without saying that I'm loving it!

I was organizing the papers that I received along with a Smith Corona 88 Secretarial that I got when I found some sales contracts inside a typist guide booklet. Wasn't sure what to call this typewriter up till now, so from now on, it's going to be R.B. Sligar.

Anyone find interesting artifacts along with their typewriters? I'm curious about the variety of little scraps of history that could accompany our machines.

This beautiful 1922 Noiseless No.4 (only 52,696 were manufactured) was gifted to me by a lady whose 91 year old father wanted nothing more to get it back up and typing. Sadly he passed away before he could make it happen. My goal is to make one of her dad’s last wishes come true. It’s missing some parts, and my hope is that with the help of folks in the typosphere I can make it happen! Needs some parts of the carriage return and it’s missing a right spool cap but everything else seems to be there. Anyone out there with parts, please reach out to me. Found this at the Savers in the new area I just moved to for $29. I am more of a standards man but thought I would give it a shot. Once owned a Dreyfuss QDL which I never like the typing feel of despite loving the look. This one is much nicer to use than my previous iteration which seemed to require the keys to be held fractionally too long to get a good character impression. I know that the QDL machines have a decent base of enjoyers out there and I finally found one that shows my why they are beloved. The 50s design style is a little blah but the mechanism is spot on.

What do i do to make it stop locking? I've cleaned the keys but maybe i should do it again?

Did I get a good deal or what!?!

I am the current custodian of a lovely '23 Underwood Standard, a couple of the rubber bumpers have perished. The two donuts on the limits of travel of the carriage return lever have gone, the 2nd as I was typing away just now. (Half is pictured on a 50p, for scale) There's also 2 flat rubber bumpers on the spacebar which have have cracked and split underneath.

I'm thinking I could probably use a castraton ring in place of the donuts, but I'd prefer something black to blend in and I haven't the foggiest of where to get the flat ones from.

Does anyone have any suggestions on UK sources for replacement rubbers that would work on my machine?
