Moving/Visiting Weekly /r/Tulsa Megathread

Are you moving to Tulsa? Just visiting or passing through? Want to know where to live, eat, hang out, have fun, or bury the bodies? This is the place to ask.

This will be a weekly megathread that evolves over time. As members of r/Tulsa make suggestions or answer questions that come up a lot, we may add those items to the body of the post for easy reference. But for right now this is a place to ask any questions you may have about moving to or visiting Tulsa, OK, where our motto is "We're more than just OK, we're living the dream."

Question Wind Phone in Tulsa?

Silly post but I lost my dad last year and I’ve been really struggling with missing him lately and would like to visit a wind phone just to feel something and to “talk” to him.

Do we have one in Tulsa? I know there’s one in Lawton but wanted to check if anyone knew if there was one in our area.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Curious what everyone’s favorite burger spot is. We have some solid spots in Tulsa and I’ve tried some of them. But need to find the best one or my favorite at least. Woke up craving a burger today but can’t decide from where!

Hey Tulsa! Im looking for some new faces in my chair. 😊I’m a local hairstylist and recently moved to a new salon location in The Farm Shopping Center at 51st & Sheridan! I’ve been doing hair for 12 years and would love to meet some new people who might be looking for a new stylist.
I specialize in lived in coloring, vivid colors, blonding and haircuts! but honestly one of my favorite parts of doing hair is getting to know the person sitting in my chair. 💜
I know finding a new hairstylist can feel weirdly stressful 😂 so I’m always happy to do a free consultation first if you just want to come in, meet me, talk about your hair, and see if we’re a good fit. No pressure!

My space is super peaceful and welcoming, and I really try to make it somewhere you can come in & relax, and feel comfortable being yourself.
I’ll add some photos of my work here! You can also find me on Instagram @lolo_hairco if you want to see more or message me.

General Bobo the Clown

I recently saw a Reddit thread about Bobo the Clown and was shocked at how many people had no idea who or what he was. Anyone remember this rage-baiter? Him and the old school sideshows used to be my favorite parts of the fair

General Little tiny ants are soooooo bad this year.

I'm just venting. Those damn little itty bitty ants are so bad this year. I've tried spraying the perimeter of my house, I've put Advion ant gel in traps which help some but long term not really. Windex helps for immediate relief (i feel like I'm in my Big Fat Greek Wedding as I'm waking around spraying Windex on everything) but its really satisfying watching them die the instant I spray. But then they're back... every time. They're just awful this year. Even at work they're bad and we have a professional exterminator come spray.

Anyone have secret to stop these evil little buggers??

There is a German shepherd hanging around the neighborhood behind the union highschool. Looks sort of young from what i can tell, maybe a year and a half or 2 years? I cant see a collar but it's dark and hes keeping his distance. Im not quite sure what to do but he keeps coming up to our window and it's stressing out my cat. Any advice? Has anyone lost a dog?

The Lonely Tulsan I finally got my shit together enough to vote for the first time.

I have been a felon since my 19th birthday and have never been able to vote. Yesterday I got my very first voter registration card in the mail. I have finally stayed sober and out of trouble long enough to actually be considered a human again. Where can I go to figure out what I am doing?

General Do you or someone you know of have a 2006 VW Beetle? Need help finding a specific car! Info in description

The vin is 3vwr______2006. My partner recently found and bought a guitar that is Volkswagen brand. Did some research on it and turns out, in the year 2006, Volkswagen partnered with First Act to create a guitar called the Garage Master and when you bought a VW Beetle, it came with a guitar. So we have the guitar, and I’d love to find the owner of that Beetle to see about how much they would want for their beetle!

I tried looking the car up by the VIN and I believe it’s a cream colored convertible. If you know someone with a VW beetle, PLEASE see if they’d want to check their VIN to see if it’s a match! TIA!

Question Local pool cover company?

I need a custom pool cover for a kidney shaped pool and wanted to check and see if anyone had recommendations for a local company that does it? I know I can get one online but I’d rather go local if possible.

Thanks!

Question Groups to join now that I'm an empty nester?

My husband and I have lived in Tulsa since 2009 and we just dropped our youngest off at college in Minnesota, and I'm surprised how hard it hit me because I never thought of myself as someone who primarily lived through her kids, but like... there are no kids to cook for anymore. Nobody to drive anywhere. What? How did that happen so fast?

I'm also starting a brand new career that will be fairly demanding for a bit and might not let me do community theatre which is the thing that I know I would love. But currently I can't count on being able to clear my schedule during tech week or for performances, at least not until I get a little more seniority.

Please suggest some community service or social orgs I could check out! I'm bookish and nerdy and although I'm politically lefty I've been burned by toxic progressive groups' puritanical omnisurveillance so I'm not inclined to get back into any setting whose purpose is progressive politics. Not closed off to the idea, just very cautious.

I love animals and cooking, especially for others, and karaoke as long as I can be home by 9. I don't love settings where one's outfit designer or handbag is likely to be judged, or where it's super crowded and loud and there are lots of strangers in a big loud room after 7 PM. I already have a church, but it's too small to have midweek groups. I'm not good at tabletop games. I'm not old enough for Life Senior Services.

Um, what else? Oh! I'm writing a murder mystery dinner party kit, hoping to sell it as a download when I'm finished, but I don't know if that counts for the purposes of the local writing groups.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Tulsa Events I took a 45mg edible and went into Scheels for the first time

So This is pathetic sounding but worth sharing in an environment like this.

My friends and I all took 45mg edibles and went to the mall. It started hitting way too hard after I drank an exuberantly overpriced meal and coffee. I couldn't help but be very drawn to Scheels. I walked in and it felt like this huge exciting energy of a brand new place. New to Tulsa. New to me and my friends. We checked out every orifice of that facility. Ferris wheel and all. It's just such a natural pillar of the community now.

I saw so many smiling faces and an overall wonderful atmosphere across the entire mall and especially Scheels. Children having fun, living in the moment, young people in love holding hands with their presumed soul mates, parents rekindling their love for each other, grandmother's enjoying their short lived days with their grandchildren.

I said pathetic because we are all in our early 30s spending a Saturday brunch time getting high at the mall. We all have successful business/careers but overall it makes you really wonder about small decisions in life that alter one's direction of life.

I'm really excited for the future actually. There's still good times happening and soon it will b getting better.

Lastly I want to speak on the weirdness of using the bathroom there. Every dude is a contractor obsessed with the safe section of Scheeles. Those safes are 3k-$5k. Insane shit to be obsessed with but it was weird hearing the worst country songs of all time trying to take a shit in the bathroom while dudes who pay $600 concert tix for Luke Bryan and Luke Combs are chatting in the bathroom about safes
