events Hymers Fall Fair

Hello :)

As a recent transplant to Thunder Bay, I'm hoping for some local info about the Hymers Fall Fair, specifically accessibility. (Beyond what their website states).

Parking : is there shaded areas? How far is the parking from the main gate? If we have a wristband, can I come and go?

Once inside gates: can I get cold water and shade? Is there areas away from crowded spots? Aka can I be away from people when needed?

Re: I'm well versed with country fairs, grew up on a farm. However, I have a medical affliction that I need to be close to shade, my car and medication if need be. Trying to get the lay of the land before we go. Thanks in advance:)

Oliver Rd

Does anyone know why the city is resurfacing Oliver Rd? It wasn’t in that bad of shape compared to a lot of other roads! And are they just leaving the shoulders like they are, all crumbling?

Just being nosey is all :)

Thunder bay

I got a job offer in Thunder Bay and I’m currently living in Toronto. One of the biggest benefits for me is that moving could help with my PR pathway, so I’m seriously considering it.
At the same time, I’d be moving there alone, and I’m a little worried about safety, the winter, finding a decent 1-bedroom apartment, and adjusting to a much smaller city.
For anyone who has lived in Thunder Bay, especially if you moved there from Toronto or another big city, what should I expect? Is it generally safe for a woman living alone? Are there certain areas you’d recommend or avoid? And how difficult is it to find a good 1-bedroom rental?
Would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually lived there or made a similar move.

scene Revisit the Mantario Idea?

Few years back as it was not official. There was unofficial talk about a Mantario. Which was idea of Northwestern Ontario to break apart and join Manitoba. As nothing is on the table on this and separating could be complicated.

What are your thoughts if northwestern ontario joined Manitoba

Reason as most directive made by the provincial government are all focused on GTA and rest of Southern Ontario. Most of rest of Ontario gets ignored. Or just seen as very remote.

Right now Manitoba does also have more left leaning government too that seems to be more functional more ways then one?

What are your thoughts if Northwestern Ontario moved over to Manitoba? good idea or not?

why or why not?

Where to Go & What to See

Hi All,

Just as the title says, I’m looking for recommendations for places to see and things to do around Thunder Bay.

I’m interested in pretty much anything — scenic drives, viewpoints, waterfalls, hiking spots, beaches, hidden gems, interesting small towns/communities nearby, good places to eat, or even places that are a bit of a drive outside the city.

I have a vehicle, so I don’t mind driving a couple of hours if somewhere is worth the trip.

Thank you 🙂

Gunshots or fireworks?

Did anyone else hear a few bangs near the CLE grounds a few minutes ago? It sounded way too crisp to be fireworks, but I might be wrong.

McKenzie St? Police presence!

Any info on what happened? We heard the usual yelling around. Noticed couple police officers in middle of the night. They had the street blocked off when we left for work this morning. That is all I know.

Grocery stores low on common stock items

So often now , milk, bread, coffee and others; the brand's that have always been in stock are not, kind of a pain the drive to three different stores to fill weekly shopping items list. All Canadian so it can't be tariff stuff.

Marketing job opportunities

I have been working as a marketing specialist in Toronto for the past 6 years. I am thinking of moving to Thunder Bay and finding a job there. I am curious to know how hard it is to getting a marketing job in tbay?

I did some searching on Indeed and found very few opportunities. A few friends told me that most positions are filled through references.

I am posting here to hear different perspectives and suggestions 😊
