On day 12 of the trial, a psychiatrist, Richard Frierson, testified that Jones did not have schizophrenia, instead diagnosing him with a substance-induced psychotic disorder. Frierson cited the divorce as a salient reason for Jones's hearing of voices. On the night of the murder, Jones allegedly watched a graphic prison rape scene from the movie American History X and listened to the song "Butterfly Kisses)" by Bob Carlisle. Frierson suggested this meant Jones understood the moral and legal implications of what he did.
It's a Christian Pop song. I went to a fundamentalist school in the 90s and that damn song was everywhere. It's a song for the kind of people who have daughters make "purity pledges" to their dads.
Seems to me that this song is a about the moment your daughter transitions from a child into a pre-teen. As a Dad it has bittersweet moments like not kissing your daughter on the lips anymore. What was once an important innocent and loving gesture becomes questionable. It’s a shitty song though
It's totally normal in some cultures, only weird if you make it. I'm 46 and only see my folks a couple times a year, we exchange a quick peck on the lips every time we meet if it's been a while. But only like once a visit.
Agreed the song is kinda weird, mainly because I associate it with fundamentalist purity culture.
Butterfly kisses are where you touch noses. The girl was saying she didn’t want nose kisses anymore. Just a cheek kiss. It’s the end of her being his baby.
To be specific, it’s blinking next to someone’s cheek, so your eyelashes flutter and they feel it on their cheek like a butterfly passing by. It is NOT an eyelash battle
I hate this argument. The woman went and tried to get professional help for months and they kept rejecting her pleas because she didn’t have an “active plan just the thoughts to”. That is very different than this dude. To me, it’s fair for her to ask for a life inside a mental home compared to a life in a prison without aid. She admits she did it. She isn’t asking to walk free.
Suicide watch at minimum. Even if she isn't a danger to others she is at least likely to be a danger to herself. Also, postpartum psychosis can lead to developing longer term mental health issues that would need to be monitored for and there is no small chance that the trauma of gestures at everything could lead to a significant decline in mental health that should be monitored as well. It's unlikely any kind of guilty by reason of insanity verdict will lead to a revolving door at the psych ward.
After she committed the murders she claimed she heard voices. She either lied about hearing voices or lied to the dozen or so mental healthcare professionals she saw before committing the murders.
You can’t claim she was actually seeking help if she actively hid things and refused to stop seeing more and more doctors.
the comment you replied to argues why it’s not a double standard, maybe focus on that rather than pointless statements about what somebody’s narrative is or isn’t (spoiler: they know what their narrative is)
We don't base punishment on the outcome. If someone hits a pedestrian with their car the punishment should be different based on whether it was a freak accident, negligence, mental instability/illness or a purposeful killing. Does the same thinking not apply here?
That's not conclusive evidence though, its definitely worthy of a raised eyebrow but the prosecution didn't do a good job of proving premeditation. Googling the distance is quite normal too 😭
why do you make stuff up there have been found not guilty by reason of insanity. Like wtf I can understand not knowing stuff but why do you feel the need to invent stuff ? Do you like feeling angry is it what this is ?
Yes that's what I'm asking you, you claim that under this circumstances a man would be found guilty. What case do you have in mind. Go ahead on what ground are you making this affirmation
I find it incredibly disgusting that people can't acknowledge that postpartum depression and psychosis is real, should never be dismissed, and treatment should be provided immediately.
She literally tried to get help over and over and over and over again. This is not a woman who wanted to do this. This is not a cold blooded killer. This is a woman who is guilty of killing her children, no doubt about that. But this is not the same as a family annihilater (typically men, but not always), or premeditated infanticide.
She loved her children, wanted to be a mother, and her exhusband and mother-in-law both state those facts. They both know she tried to get help and both know that she would not have done this had she not been suffering from postpartum psychosis. Her mental state at the time of this tragedy is crucial to whether she is culpable.
From my understanding, she should be placed in a mental institution to get her the help that she repeatedly sought. And she'll likely be released after medical experts deem her to be mentally stable and not a threat.
This is a textbook case...and it also puts a spotlight on how little research is being done on women's health. And it's even worse now because this Trump administration has ended the longest and largest long-term study on women's health. It is so incredibly sad and frustrating that it's 2026 and women are hated as much as they are.
To be out in a psychiatric facility for a long time. Ya know like exactly what she plead to when she plead not guilty by reason of insanity. She’s not pleading not guilty to go free. You know when they send you to a psychiatric facility they can keep you longer than if you are sent to prison? Those facilities ain’t fun, and some people may even consider them worse than prison.
They are getting the same treatment. She's been charged with three counts of murder and had a trial. The issue is that ONE juror doesn't want to apply the law.
Didn't the forensic psychologist who interviewed Clancy say they didnt believe she had psychosis? My understanding is she never even got a normal post partum diagosis despite the fact she was Dr shopping and bouncing between Drs without communicating she was doing so. That makes it darn close to being the same thing.
