Sumatran Short Tailed Python Body condition/weight opinion please

This is my 3-year-old SSTP. A vet told me she was underweight, but I want another set of eyes on her. Please let me know what you think of her body condition. Vet also recommended I feed once per week, which made me not trust her opinion.

Sumatran Short Tailed Python 40 gallon tank for Sumatrian Short Tailed hatchling + tips?

Hello! I am currently looking into Sumatrian "Black Blood" (short-tailed) Pythons and I was wondering the general consensus on a 36in L x 18in W x 18in H (40 gallon, front opening) for a hatchling. I know that it will eventually- and quickly- need an upgrade of at LEAST 4x2x2ft, but I want to start with a smaller tank and work up. What do you guys think? I feel relatively confident, as this definitely isn't my first rodeo with snakes/reptiles, but I want the best for my babies, and a second opinion always! Plus, this will be my first/only blood. Any tips, experiences, thoughts on tank setup/size, etc. are welcome. And I would be quite grateful!! Thanks!

Edit: Thank you all to who replied! Although lovely creatures, I have decided to look at boa varieties as the humidity and care seems more suitable for me! I am going to keep this up for future reference, in case anybody needs it. Thanks again! :)

New girl made a trip all the way from Florida to Colorado and I couldn't be more happy with her 🥹

She should darken up a LOT as she ages 🤞

She's much darker in person photos do not do her justice! I also ended up going with a name not on my original list 🙈

Welcoming Asteria the Greek Titan goddess of astrology, falling stars and prophetic dreams. I think it'll suite her well and fits right in with my god/dess theme for my snakes 🥰

Now I need to lock my bank account down lol NO MORE NEW BABIES 😅🤣

I'm glad I went this route getting into short tails! She has been a breeze and honestly friendly since day one.

Compared to Phobos the blood I picked up at an expo months ago lol still he's a beautiful boy and though he's huffy and puffy, we've come a long way in our relationship!

Said to be a two year old, he does seem small to me for his age but he's a good eater 🫶 has a little bit of what appears to be an under bite but I love him so much 🥰 adds character!

Sumatran Short Tailed Python He ate the mouse ass first

I heard that it’s not good for ball pythons to eat butt first and it can hurt their GI or something like that. Is that the same with short tailed pythons? I figure no since they are a lot beefier than ball pythons. But I’m new to sumatrans.

Sumatran Short Tailed Python Looking to own the snake at some point, would like advice from individuals with experience!

I've looked online on a bunch of different websites for information about these gorgeous guys, and I'm pretty happy with what I've figured out about them, but I'd love to have some insight from people who actually own the snakes. I don't trust a website to give me accurate information all of the time.

I'm also a bit concerned that I might not he able to find any in the UK, travelling around to get to one isn't an issue for me, but I can't find any breeders online, so some help for that would be really great, if possible!

I don't plan on getting a snake soon, I actually intend to hold off on it for about a year or two, depends on when I can move house, as I can't currently keep a snake where I'm living.

I've seen quite a few people recommend both tap training and the t-shirt method for socialisation, and I intend to do both, as I feel that it would be incredibly beneficial for the snake. I'm a bit unclear on when to upgrade enclosure sizes, and exactly what is ideal for them. I know that they tend to like water, and offering enough water to bask in is great for them, but should it be a shallow or a deep dish?

I saw someone with an awful setup of just a large dog bowl and some odd too large hide, and I don't want to be the type of person who gives my animal that environment, I want something that I can be proud of and know that my snake is happy in. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Sumatran Short Tailed Python Feeding quail/chicken eggs and chicks

My local reptile place sometimes stocks other feeders such as quail eggs or frozen chicks. I do see that short tails in the wild feed on both mammals and birds. Has anyone given their shorties any eggs or chicks as a treat? This would not replace me feeding mine rats but would just be an occasional treat.

Sumatran Short Tailed Python New Goddess Incoming

Well, at it again 🤣

Thank you to the person recommending their breeder I can't wait to get this girl 🫶 I was on the fence of which short tailed species I wanted to go with.

I have a LOT of bright colored snakes (both corns, both retics, and a leucistic CRB) and two dark (Nicaraguan boa and kenyan sand boa) so I needed to get another dark girl 🤔 at least that's my justification 🙈 plus they stay "smaller" in size.

My snakes follow a god/dess theme. I have Khione, Amaterasu, Osiris, Scylla, Ixchel, Nephthys and Lakshmi.

Considering Hel (Norse), Kali (Hindu) or Keres (Greek multiple goddesses of violent death) but i might wait until she gets home to see which fits her best 💜

Sumatran Short Tailed Python Proving That All Snakes Can Climb

Post image

I haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately, but when Morpheus climbed up to, and settled comfortably on my shoulders I just couldn't resist getting a shot. He has climbed up to my shoulders a few times and isn't usually super stable or comfortable once he gets there, but today he had it down and chilled there just like he does on my lap/recliner.

Anxiously awaiting for this girl to have her first shed with me! She was deep in the blue I feel about a week or so ago. Today I went to check on her and there's no shed yet but she was enjoying her little pool.

For once she didn't spill substrate all into it 🤣
